First impressions? Complicated! :D
But that's likely due to me being sleep-deprived and coming from an archaic version. I'll catch on, and what fiddling I've done so far indicates it'll be fairly easy to learn the basics and intermediates. |

6) Undo.. Dont like the undo works too on your perspective position.. and not only on your model changes.. so if you move to much your location you loose what is real needed .. undo your changes on your model.. But its cool have this new Real undo on truespace... so i give a 7.
Points ~ 7.
In the workspace settings in the stack, uncheck camera undo. :)
Edit: Actually I should have said in the "desktop" preferences in the stack. |

My first impressions were...how do I put a cube on the page...then I figured it out...
It seems really sluggish but to be fair I installed it on my office PC which has a really awful video chipset (some low-end business chipset). Mind you it's an entry level Core 2 with 2gb ram. I'm sure it would run better at home just because of the fact I have a decent video card.
I like the interface though for the most part. It looks a bit more traditional and the docking of panels at the side just keeps them all out of the way.
I also managed to get it to crash. I tried to load up one of the pre-defined scenes and when I used the mouse wheel it completely died on me. The PC has a pre-installed OS and I never trust them, especially dell ones, since they come with so much crap and you can't seem to get rid of it. |

@ brotherx:
If it's a business machine the onboard graphics probably doesn't support DX pixel shaders. Could be that the scene you loaded had custom DX shaders.
Vid card is everything for realtime 3D. My dad's old 2Ghz single core Athlon (relatively slow by today's standards) w/ 2 gig of ram and a 7900GS vid card runs most games on high settings and ran the beta just fine.
Edit: oh yeah btw, did I mention that I use an entry level core2 chip in my machine? ......... course it's overclocked to almost 2x it's rated speed... LOL ;)

It's a 7900 extreme that I have (I think the extreme means higher clock speed or something), 3gb ram and a 3.4ghz processor at home. Does for most things.
And yeah, it is probably the pixel shaders that killed it.
I suppose I really should do some work...I just wanna play. |

I had workspace scens flying on a Radeon 9800 Pro and my 7900GT means I can have 4x AA on with supersampling and bloom and it stil flies. Only very dense hair slows it down at all.
On my very basic (SIS chipset) school laptop I turn bridge off and just use modeller, while on a slightly better machine (Ati 900IGP) I could use workspace fine but had to turn off all bells and whistles.
Code is fine, realtime quality depends on your system and primarily the card...:) |

Oooh nice horse model. Good UV layout on that and pre-rigged + BVH too. Who gets the credit for that one? :)

I have not played with 7.5 for very long since I was lower on the distribution ladder.:p Having 7.11 first and now updating to 7.5 the difference in the look and feel are amazing. Familiar ground but enhanced. No more duplicate icons, the stack looks right now, the icons are now highlighted better when you move your mouse over them, the almost invisible transformation between 6.5 and 7.5...on and on and on...yes we noticed the improvements!
The jump from version 6 to this must be huge!
TS has always been a leader in interfaces and you've created yourself a jewel! So the look and feel is fantastic, now lets check out it's muscle...:) |

Thanks Jack. Yep, I modelled the horse (completely on the workspace side of 7.5), mapped and textured him. Mr. Bones applied the skeleton and animation.
One of the really super opportunities of working with the development group and beta testing team was the tremendous spirit of collaboration and support. |

Beautiful modeling an nice UV job on the horse model, Heidi. It's a very clean and efficient mesh.
The animation looked clean too, so kudo's go to Mr. bones too.

Just received my email last night! It's great!
But the interface is quite overwhelming. I had to uninstall tS6.6 in order to keep myself from going back there. The workspace does seem to be missing a lot of tools as well.
Other than those things, I'm having a blast! Got a lot of reading to do! |

Note this from the manual:
In Lightworks, using a texture map with these shaders completely overrides the slider value for the diffuse, specular, etc. channels, but V-Ray instead multiplies the slider value with the result of the texture look-up. This gives better control over the surface, particularly when using the Workspace Material Editor where you can edit the numerical value and the texture map at the same time, but if you wish to duplicate the Lightworks behavior simply ensure you set the numerical value of the channel you wish to affect to 1.0.
In other words, if the default value is 0.0 and you stick a texture in there, it will still be 0.0. Set it to 1.0, then add the texture, and you'll get the same behaviour as Lightworks. |

I like the new interface, although it is going to take a little getting used to. Perhaps I should try reading the manual?

Hey Roman, thanks for your response.
I couldn't really tell you all the steps. I was just trying out different tools. I was adding loops, merging faces, using the sweep tool...just various things trying out the tools. I'll pay closer attention to steps I am taking and report if the crashes continue. |

TS 7.5, First Impressions,
I write this for 'Newbies' like myself, and for people considering purchasing 7.5, but are 'on the fence'. Although I own 5.2 and 6.6 (and now 7.5), I hadn't really started to seriously learn the program (6.6) until a couple of months ago. As I wrote in another post, learning all the icons and where they were, and what they did seemed to me a daunting task (time-wise). As I became familiar with 6.6, things became easier, and I was glad that I decided to 'stick with it' and decided to take the plunge (and give up some bucks) to go with 7.5. As I 'play' in 7.5, the thought occurs to me that Roman is a genius! How many times have you seen people write, "What happened to my favorite XYZ tool?" pertaining to a programs major upgrade. No worries - in 7.5 you get to have your cake and eat it too! The 'Model' side houses all your favorite tools, so if you get 'lost' in Workspace, you can always press the 'Model' Tab and bingo - back to the comfort zone of familiar surroundings. You can learn the new stuff of 'Workspace' at your leisure, and the new tools in Workspace are outstanding! This combination of Old and New is uniquely suited to a very easy learning curve - I don't think I know of any other software that has ever done this. Absolutely Outstanding!!
Thanks Again, Caligari!
rf
ps Start in the 'Model' side, then find and press '3D Window' - model something in Workspace and watch it update in Model at the same time - how cool is that! |

Hallo, i give a quick look to 7.5. It seems fine, even if it in some aspect isn't yet so complete as other programs are (truely costing more than TS) . I find the program interface slow when using the workspace. Do you think is it due to my graphic card (ATI Radeon 9600) or my CPU (Athlon 2400)? Is it time I change my computer?
:D
Thank you.

Best to think of workspace as a modern PC game; the better your hardware the more characters and effects you can have on screen at one time without slow down.
Your card is more than adequate but it depends on what is in the scene. Try turning off workspace Anti-Aliasing (level on top of settings panel) as well as supersampling and glow/bloom-se if that helps. Also switching off the bridge if you are not using model side may help. |

virgin media finaly let me download my link and serial number late yesterday and all i can say is that 7.5 looks amazing but i'm completly lost! time to hit the manuel i think....
a strange thing as well, i found myself being a bit underwhelmed by the renders at first becaue the realtime workspace veiw is so good! i'm not used to the scene being so accurate in real time |

I have not tested all the new tools and not all in the deep but i'm really excited about the new Truespace 7.5. Works now without problems with Vista. The interface looks very pleasure and professional. By far, i have seen many other 3D programs but Truespace Workspace has now the most beautiful modelling environment. It's like working directly onstage.
Good job - thanks to Caligari and beta testers. |

You can also render your DX view directly to file. Using the "render to file" icon on the bottom right icon bar, on the fly out for the manual.
