I just made the 6.6 - 7.5 leap, and I'm dying to know more things about it!

One thing I would like to know in particular is if tS7.5 supports working with a dual monitor setup. I know that it didn't work with 6.6 and just want the info on this great n' glorious update.:)

yes it does, in ts7 u can set to dual monitor mode, I believe u can move all the toolbars around as u wish using various display modes, how this works in TS7.5 I dont know yet, but i imagine much the same

tS7, and in particular 7.5, works great with dual monitors. Since you can open and move windows and toolbars etc, it makes it easy to find many useful ways to make use of two monitors.

That's excellent news Tom - I'm a dual monitor fan myself. I've so far not found tS 7.11 to be all that good on dual monitors but that is almost undoubtedly user error as I've not fully explored that aspect of the program.

2much4u - tS 6.6 does indeed work well with 2 monitors. Whilst it's not completely able to move UI components from screen to screen at will - most of your toolbars are limited to the main screen - there is still ample flexibility allowing you to make very good use of tS 6.6 and a dual monitor set up.

I set up my TS to be dual monitor and now the program won't load properly. Only the scene library/settings panel comes up and one set of icons. The main view window is nowhere to be found! Does anyone know how to fix it?

I've been working on dual monitors for a while now in 7.11. There are some issues to keep in mind.

Some dual monitor modes treat each monitor as kind of a separate desktop such that maximizing a window remains on one monitor or the other. Another mode I frequently see is where the two monitors are treated as one really wide monitor. Maximizing a window in that case spans both monitors.

Personally I prefer the former of the two. I like to keep the link editor open along with web pages and such in the 2nd monitor window (to the right). I maximize the main window in the left monitor.

Been using an Nvidia GeForce 6200 AGP card and it seems to work fine. Can be set up through their nView desktop manager wizard. I'm using XP if that figures into the decision somehow. Waiting for Vista to mature a bit before taking the plunge.

Just a warning though. Once you get working on dual monitors I think you'll have a very hard time going back to just one. ;)

Hope this helps!

The former are how mine are. If only I could get TS to work. :/

The loss of the main window can happen in tS7.11 if you use the "X" in the window to close it - this does not close tS and just closes the main window, leaving you with other windows like libraries etc open. The instructions for tS say to always use the Shut Down icon and never to use the "X" in the main window bar to close the program.

I would just delete the default.ctx file and that should restore tS to a default state.

If you still have libraries showing, then choose another layout, and that should bring it back too, eg the Default layout should put everything back on one monitor.

EDIT - PS, 7.5 now closes as expected if you close the main window, so you can go back to using the usual X in the windows title bar for closing the whole program, if desired :)

Aaaah. I usually do use the shut down button, but I was tired this time. XD

Thanks for the tip!

Can you or anyone else give us an example of a useful way to make use of 2 monitors? Are there any settings I would need to set to use dual monitors (I've checked the dual monitor setting in model side preferences)?

What are the limitations (Eg, TS 6.6 only lets you move some UI elements to the second moniter - does this also apply for 7.5?).

Ideally I would like one monitor to have a 3d workplace window and the other monitor to have stack, LE anim and maybe 1 3d ortho view - as I've so far been unable to create this setup I'm wondering if its a software limitation or a hardware thing - My GPU is a 3 month old ATI RADEON X1650 PRO with 256 mb? I'm running 2 17inch CRT's at 1280x1024 res. Athlon 4600 x2 dual core cpu and 1 gig of RAM if that matters.

I'm using the 1st of the 2 dual monitor modes mentioned earlier by Prof K.

I love using dual monitors and would appreciate any insight into how to get the best from my gear - thanks in advance.

(Apologies if this should be in the tech forum - it was just that this thread had already been started here).

Meanwhile - back to the manual:D

Easiest way is to press and hold the ctrl key of let say Link Editor title bar and drag it to your second monitor. You can do this with 3d windows, panels, toolbars etc.. Just remember with 3d windows, the primary monitor will be much faster at rendering.

Possible? Yes.

7.5, dual monitors. Stack and Info panel moved to right hand monitor. Added LE and 3D window.

You use the buttons at the bottom of the 1st monitor to select the 2nd monitor's 3D window view. They apply to the last clicked 3D window.

Just takes a bit of ctrl-click/drag work to group windows.

Image below shows screen snapshot of both monitors. Main window is maximized in each monitor.
