I am told that the NDA is now lifted as 7.5 is being downloaded and I guess that anyone with it will spend a good few days before they can post help, shots etc.

As we testers have had it a while maybe we can help satisfy your curiosity a bit. I know the UI pretty well and I can post answers and grabs now. I personally cannot answer everything (animation is not my thing) but maybe it will help with the wait...:o

Can you do more modeling in Workspace, instead of bounce back and forth from model?

Prodigy I count that you report all new bugs for us oki ;)

Splinters I think you've allready said one can now use only Workspace to make everything needed, except for old plugins that is.

This is correct or?

Can you do more modeling in Workspace, instead of bounce back and forth from model? There are a lot of new modeling tools in the Workspace side now. When you get your copy up and running, definitely try the Normal Sweep tool. It allows you to sweep faces in their normals with just a click and drag. VERY FAST! It even works with point snapping and measuring tools so you can get pretty accurate too. It's a very cool tool and I think it will be a big hit. :)

Nice, thanks for the heads up on the NDA Spliters. :D
proTeam never seems to get those anouncements...

@dyvintar

Except for importing and exporting you can work completely Workspace side if you want to. The only tools I've found my self going back to model side for are bevel and the object subtraction.

Can you do it all in workspace? Maybe not everything.

But I am the original model side only guy and just recently I finished my first object in workspace-it was very intuitive.

For those scared of making the leap I am about to post something for you...:)

No booleans in workspace....yet, but there is poly blend.

Well sounds fair enough I guess, thanks guys.

I just hate to be using 2 interfaces so want to use only Worcspace as much as I can, this is the reason I skipped using Ts 7.

Looking forward to all the stuff ;)

I still move to model side once in a while but you can do a heck of a lot in workspace and it has new exclusive toys too...:)

This does make tS7.0 'player' look pretty poor I must say.

You have no idea how satisfying this scene is. Wen you get tS7.5, simply drag parva's translucent material (in the material library) onto an object. Keep the lights real low and place an omni light in the scene. Then move it around and through the object for this lovely wax/skin/torch effect...:)

Hey Splinters, I got a question for you. I noticed a "wrapped mirror map" vray shader in the release candidate. Did we actually get any mapped reflectance shaders in the final release?

How are the new 'soft modelling' tools compared to Mudbox? I know we chatted about Mudbox a while ago and you said that you had tried it.

Cheers

Expect the tools to be more like what Silo2 has.

Not sure from where this is taken but seems to come from Caligari and if so V-ray might just supprt animated textures???

Says animation support, guess it's a matter of how one reads it ;)

Can we get a definate answer to this now. Does VRay 1.5 support animated textures?

I'm afraid not yet. I do have a script though that will cycle through a set of still images and you can use it to animate textures. It is a little tedious to set up but it is a useable work around for now. I'll gladly show how to use it if anyone is interested. :)

Area Light Falloff now works - BUT V-Ray does not allow for a varying fall off for Area Lights. It is either on, or it is off. You cannot control the fall off distance / intensity. You also can't pick linear or non-linear, it only has one type of fall off (linear I believe).

Do note that this is true for 3DS Max etc too, as it the way V-Ray itself handles Area Lights, and not something in tS. This means there is nothing we can do to change that. The bug that prevented any fall off being enabled at all has been corrected though.

Area Lights now show their direction in the workspace too, previously they were the same on both sides so you had no idea which way they were pointing :)

No animated shaders directly supported. Procedural / Scripted versions can be written, as noted below.

HTH!

It's about time to go to bed over here in germany now, so I thought I'll drop in this displacement sample done today with 7.5 . Maybe answers some of your questions too, maybe just opens up more :)

What I had was a picture scanned from a 100 year old book

- only a small part of this picture shows the head, so you can see it's not a really sharp one (one of those early dot printings, not an engraving)

- brushed it per displacement mapper on a plate which was subdivided before so it will give some nice relief

- small part of this object shows, vertices are really shifted so the relief is not simply a view effect done with a bump map, it's real object manipulation.

Oh yes, the artist shown there, a writer and poetrist was Karl Goehle, perhaps some of you know him ;)
