HEhehe.. this yes must be a complaint...
Im 1.0 Vray user.. and 1.5 looks good but... BUT... BUT!!!!
i see a decay on the render performance... i think it was me.. but nop..
I test the same scene and i see a BIG BIG diference on the performance..
For example i render a simple scene with GI simple...
in 7.5 - 1.5 ~ 8 seconds..
in 7.11 - 1.0 ~ 4 seconds..
*btw. same angle, same lighting, same gi , same objects, same dimension render all!! the same
I see Vray tooks to much to render the zones where are nothing.. in 1.0 renders as a bullet...
So.. Sorry but IMO the performance on 1.5 are lower than the 1.0 version
Maybe we can test few ts benchmarks scenes and make an exaustive test.. |

I noticed this too during the beta, but had assumed it was because maybe they were using debug libraries instead of release libraries.
Wonder if it's because of the additional features enabled?

Hmm there was a bug on beta, not tested it in a while to see if it had gone away.
When I first rendered with V-Ray, it did NOT use the settings from the panel. I could tell as it used smaller blocks to render on the screen, implying it was using a more detailed render than I had set.
I had to open the V-R panel, and then it would render as expected.
Do a double check and see if opening the panel makes a difference, or if opening the panel and just changing one setting makes a difference.
Check if the render blocks are the same size.
Check that some settings have not changed - there are new parameters and options and they could be influencing the result.
HTH!
Tom
PS - Thiking of the new settings, do be sure to try lightmaps, especially for second bounce. It is much faster for much higher quality. That option did not exist in earlier V-Ray, and is worth checking out! |

I'd be interested in seeing you compare the render times from the Workspace side in 7.5. Any benchmarks you want to run would certainly be useful, although only on real scenes - a cube and a plane don't really tell us much :D
If we can detect a real slowdown then we'll take steps to address it. Jack's right though; there's a lot more going on in 1.5, and every shader/BRDF had to be rewritten to some extent to work with the new V-Ray architecture. |

In my tests, Vray 1.5 seemed to be rendering quite a bit faster then 1.0. I haven't tested a whole lot though. |

Could it be slower because it appears V-Ray 1.5 is opening a render window from the model side, which means it is using the bridge, which means the renders will be slower.

If you are in Workspace and using the V-Ray render icons, the V-Ray render is performed entirely from Workspace with no need to involve the Model side. You can turn the Bridge off in this case as it's not required. |

@Tom: I can't confirm but, on occasion I have noticed it changes bucket/aliasing settings...not halfway through a sequence...sometimes..can't specify.
I think it is faster though. With the correct antilias settings.(shrug) |

I've make the same test from THIS (http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=2643) thread, now with 7.5 vray 1.5
Here is my benchmark with 7.11 vray 1.0 (http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showpost.php?p=29855&postcount=5)
Now with the same settings but with 7.5 Vray 1.5 ~ 2 minutes 34 seconds.. (*2 mins not 3min sorry Wrong info)
Big diference compared with my other 1 min 10 seconds. :( |
