The prop is too big and need scaling down or this car won't go far (at least not in one piece).

Nooo, I like the size of the propeller....can't you lower the rear wheels instead?

Would also give the car a more aggresive look :D

I mean like this:

2069

Hm, but then it doesn't look like a fast lowriding car...more like a terrain veichle, so it depends on what you're preferring.

Hey! Hemulin's back! Where've you been gone buddy? Splinters was running around like he owned the place ;)

This is cool! But I imagine lowering the wheels would be a heck of a lot more work than simply scaling down the fan size. I agree a massive one would look menacing, but it might not be worth the effort. How about two small fans instead? Or is that not possible with the current layout?

Anyway, good to see you back around, and good job on this! Shiney shiney!

Sorry I've been away for so long guys, I had been on holiday for 2 weeks and then I had to buy a new computer, and last week (12th-19th) I was down in Norfolk helping lead the technical section on a Christian camp, so I'm a bit tired at the moment (only averaging about 4 hours sleep a night), however I will try and get back on to my fan car, and then my go-kart again. Lots of things to do, so little time before school again, aaah, and then theres the matter of a week down south nxt week, its hectic! Erm, the fan....I will scale it down, everything else will be too complicated atm, however viable when I have time, I hope Splinters hasn't been saying bad things about me while i've been away .

Back to my RC Car again, with a tS7 player render. I hope to get this project back up and running again soon, though it will be somewhat slower than before as I have lots of other work to do.

Great to see this thread come alive again! :D

Are you planning to create a body for it or some roll-cage?

I recently bought a glow engine Truggy, which has a similar wide horizontal wheelbase as your car....ironic, since I suggested that you'd raise the suspension ;)

Hm, maybe I should convert it into a Fan-car?

I am planning on building a fan grill a roll cage and a seat and 'fake steering wheel. Fake - because as you can already see it is an RC car, so it's going to a bit surreal ;-)

LOL, in fact some of the proportions are still slightly wrong, I still have to widen the front wheel base.

Hopefully some updates soon!

OK, heres the latest update: I've added the fan cage and have put the bumps back on the back wheels and put the grooves on the front. Next will be the roll cage, haven't quite figured out how that's going to work yet though.

PolyCount: ~300k (that's why i'm exporting from player instead of rendering)

and

Just added this one for fun!

Nice work, but the bumps on the back tires could be bigger, and they look a bit too regular. You might try an offset on some of them.

Thanks, however it's quite strange you said that because the photo I am working from shows the back wheels having about twice as many bumbps and they are a lot smaller. I haven't rectified that yet as there are more important things to do, though it won't take long.

IMHO The addition of the fan cage really adds something to the whole model. This is coming along really nicely now. Looking forward to more updates.

P.S. What is the plan for the finished render (if its not a secret) is it going to be in a scene or a stand alone model???

No secret - i'm really not sure yet......haven't had any inspiration for that sort of thing, hmm

You could always have the fan cool of a huge forklift's operator in the desert.....;)

Hemulin, nice work so far! I too think large nobbie tires would look better or more of them.

Everything is coming along nicely.

The fan cage adds a lot ! :D

Be careful with the nobbies...didn't you put the old ones away because they

contained too much geometry?

Couldn't find a fullbody rollcage, but this RC-car has a pretty cool one:

Mine doesn't have one and I've already scratched the engine....gotta learn how to drive ! :o

A translucent body that still shows the innards would be a cool way to go. Might render sweet with Vray and caustics too.

Thank for all the comments guys!

@Shike - I still have to work on the tyres, I think there needs to be more nobbly bits, and they need to be smaller, the polycount for the tyres alone is pretty high atm so I will only add high-def tyres right at the end.

@Shike & J_Edwards - I'm still not sure about a body shell or having a 'real' rc car rollcage, at the beginning of my project I was trying to make the model true to the photo, but now I'm not so sure. I have created a rollcage already (below) so it wouldn't be that difficult to add a body, hmm *[pondering what to do]*

Update - added rollcage

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i218/the-hemulin/3_800.jpg (http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i218/the-hemulin/3.jpg)
Polycount: ~370,000 (its still going up)

Nice! That rollcage looks like it would survive a highspeed flip...

have to get myself a cheap welder and see if I kan make it for

my car :D

Hate to give suggestions....when I know it might require lot of time...

but maybe make the cage more narrow at the top...bending inwards..?

Would look more like the cages on the cars in MadMax.

The fan guard looks great as well. Nice work! Thanks, I found it surprisingly easy to make, I thought it would be difficult originally but all I have to do was shove some nurbs curves together and then copy them all round.

OK, new update.
I've now started to add a shell for the car....I am thinking along the lines of a perspex body held together by those metal hinge things...can't find a picture to show you what I mean but you'll see soon enough.

Nice work mate, you've got a good balance of opacity and reflection in the perspex.

I like were you're going with the body on this. I was thinking more fiberglass but this goes much better with the fan and it *works*. :D

Nice render btw.

Thanks Madmouse, hopefully it will stay that way after i've tweaked the lighting. I decided I would render this one out instead of using a player grab, it too a heck of a long time.....4 hours or more I think, unfortunately when I rendered one with the hdri samples et upto 80 (this one was on 10) the shadows dissapeared which threw me a bit.

Thanks Jack, I did have a go at making an sds fiberglass shell but that went all wrong so I decided to go for something simpler. My sds and organic modelling skills are not quite up to the level i need at the moment.

OK....it's been a while since I looked at this and i've had a free weekend to play around with it again, I think it's time to bring the project to a close. I have a final render that I am pleased with (although there are a few things I will tweak). Any modifications I do now will probably be to add into a scene or change the lighting setup.

Below is a link to the final render, which I have submitted into the monthly gallery. I will probably have a look at setting it into a scene in a couple of weeks when I have some more free time.
