Hi,
will there be an update, which makes VRay 1.0 work with TS7.5?

Have you tried just installing V-Ray 1.0 over your TS 7.5 install?

I installed tS 7.5, but now I only have Lightworks and VirtuaLight (which crashes every time, BTW). What happened to VRay? Do I have to install it again separately?
What's all this about VRay 1.5 vs. 1.0? |

Yes i did.
I got an error which says: "Vray package cannot be loaded." |

Check out my post at the bottom of the page here for some of the more readily apparent new V-Ray features:
http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=2792&page=5
I'm sure some one from Caligari can give a more specific summary though.
Edit:
@Misc:
Bummer. In one of the Captain's Blog's blogs I seem to remember that Roman said he would address it, and that 1.0 users would still be able to use VRay 1.0 with 7.5. So maybe there'll be a patch?

So maybe there'll be a patch?
And soon I hope!!!
I haven't really taken the time to get to grips with V-ray yet but was planning to and I was under the impression that V-ray 1 would work with TS7.5 so I didn't bother purchasing V-ray 1.5 until I got to grips with 1.
Hopefully this is near the top of Caligari's list of things to do
(or maybe not so that sales of 1.5 are better  ) |

But for users who do not intend to upgrade to V-Ray1.5 we will deliver the patch for sure. |

So to properly use tS7.5 we need to pay for an upgrade to VRay1.5?
I feel that tS7 and 7.1 were glorified beta versions; the "Player"/Workspace we paid for was next to useless without modeling tools, the new rendering options nice to play with but impractical for real-world use because of their poor shader support and the overall stability was less than I would expect of a final release. So I ignored those early versions, reverting to tS6.6 while waiting for the "real" tS7.
Nevertheless, I paid five hundred dollars for the upgrade including VRay, and I expect it to work 100% this time. I would be very unhappy about another work-around.
Just assuming I was willing to pay an additional upgrade fee to get a working trueSpace: how can one upgrade from VRay 1.0 to VRay 1.5? And how much would it cost? |

I paid $59 to upgrade to Vray 1.5. It is certainly worth that for the amount of work that has gone into it and it integrates well with tS7.5.
BUT a patch to make Vray 1.0 work is promised and should make them work together but newer functions will be missing. |

It's sort of a shame that the developers will have to "waste" time making an old feature limited version of V-Ray "compatible". In reality it seems almost like it will be like taking the V-Ray 1.5 and turning it into "V-Ray Light".... Or Limited Edition or some such.
I think Caligari painted themselves into a box a bit with this one, but I still find it crazy that so many would have passed up on the really innexpensive pre-release special considering how much they'd already paid for the feature limited version... maybe they could extend it for a few more days... or only charge an extra $10-$15 over the special price.
BTW, Splinters are you sure it was $59? My invoice says $49 and you're proTeam like I am.

No, there will be a patch soon that allows you to use V-Ray 1.0 for tS in tS7.5 exactly the same as you did in tS 7.11. You will not need to pay to use it properly. |

Some weeks ago I asked what the benefits of 1.5 above 1.0 are.
Well I only heard something about DOF, Bugfixes and Workspace integration.
At the risk to fall from grace here, but if there where new and usefull features like material layer i would pay much more than 59$. But for workspace integration and bugsfixes? Come on this should be a regular service update and nothing more because the TS7.0 and 7.11 mess was not my fault!

There are 3 new mapped reflectance shaders that made it into 1.5 also. :)

I agree, I think quite a few of us were hoping motion blur and animated textures were going to make it in Vray 1.5. I am still not sure what extra features 1.5 does have, having only played with it for a couple of hours since downloading, but I couldn't find them anywhere. |

Here are screen captures of the new features:
Here you can see the improved support for HDRI (notice the vertical cross format selector in the drop down)

Switch to the GI panel and you can see that an entire new render method called "Light Map" with all new options has been added. This is very useful for indoor rendering.
5883
Switch to the Camera panel and you have your DOF settings:

I still don't understand why we need so many reflectance shader. Half of them do the same. Phong x3, metal x3 |

Well I am not a penny-pincher but if every small update will cost 49 or 59$ we would pay much more for Vray4TS than for VRay4Max to get the same features :D |

Well, the Mapped Phong/Metal is IMHO a better way to create dirty materials(varying specularity, reflectance...and so on) than layered materials...though some of you might disagree ;)
But have to agree with you Parva, there is a lot of reflectance shaders in Lightworks... many of them (like the Metal ones) I've never used.... :o |

Well, I understand phong, metal, dielectric etc.. Those use different BRDF's but why so many same shaders like matte, plastic, phong, phong caligari, phong mapped etc.?
One phong Shader (like you said Shike, the phong mapped shader) with all settings and done. You can still create custom materials and create glass, or mirror or water or whatever. |

I completely agree Parva and Shike. Mapped Phong is the main one that I use.
I think having the extra shaders just confuses new users. Maybe preset buttons could be added at the bottom that set the phong shader to values that represent the other materials.... Though a Blinn shader might be nice... ;) LOL

There's a new Light Map section yes Jack I like the sound of that- for indoor scenes is it? Ah good, will er, find out more. Someone will. I'm not pointing at anyone Jack :)
I like the new Vray setup and being able to set the resolution of the Vray render window, and the way the Vray rendered scene stays there in its own window with the Save File button so longtime renders don't just disappear into the void

VRay has always had caustics. I didn't show the caustics panel because it didn't change. Just click on the same drop down selector button that I used to switch to GI an Camera tabs and choose Caustics.

(Relief.) Knew they were in 1.0, but just wasn't spotting the associated panel in the earlier posted 1.5 screen shots. Thanks much.

So to properly use tS7.5 we need to pay for an upgrade to VRay1.5?No we promised update to V-Ray1.0 which will work with TS7.5. Fortunately it appears we can do this quickly. It certainly would be cheaper for Caligari to offer those users who do not want to spent $49 for V-Ray1.5 upgarde a free upgrade, but that would not be fair to paying users.
That brings me to an idea. I always thought that subscription is the best way of trueSpace ownership because as long as you subscribe you get latest version of everything. One time yearly fee however certainly can be a hit on ones pocketbook without seeing the ongoing releases. Would you guys be interested in a subscription ownership of TS7.5 if you could pay more affordable monthly subscription fees (but with a minimum year long commitment)? |

Hi,
I'm rather new to the forum. I have used TS since R4, now I plan on using more full time.
My first few comments are. I noticed that Vray seemed to lock up when I tried to use it in Model space. The other is that the lens flares do not work, idid check them on.
I was also disappointed to see that the transparency shaders were limited.
I have been working on modeling the earth and I used one of the shader for the atmosphere. Now I do not know how to create a shader that will give the effect of a haze around the earth. What I need is something that will taper the materials translucency so the edge just tapers off. Is there anyway to get this effect in Vray or would I just be better to stick to the light works shaders?
