Monthly payments is a great idea Roman! Spreading the payments over the course of a year would make ProTeam a lot more readily accessible for many people.
Would there be a way to add V-Ray updates into some kind of subscription? Or maybe stretch out our 1.5 upgrade to include a few extra updates. ;)

Without a roughly roadmap I see no reason for that. |

No we promised update to V-Ray1.0 which will work with TS7.5. Fortunately it appears we can do this quickly. It certainly would be cheaper for Caligari to offer those users who do not want to spent $49 for V-Ray1.5 upgarde a free upgrade, but that would not be fair to paying users.
Could you post a link? On the main page, the upgrade offer is for USD 99. |

Roman,
First I would start a new thread on that idea because your question will be lost here.
Second, a subscription service might work for some. You already have the ProTeam Yearly plan. If you had different plans that could be chosen it might work. Make it a cheaper option than if you wait for the release. Also you might consider packages. Updates for TS and Vray for example could work for some.
So monthly TS updates would be the first tier, TS plus VRay upgrades second, TS plus Vray and videos third, TS, VRay, videos, and technical support, TrueSpace Fourth.....etc. These are just possibilities. |

Hi Toxic Frog,
The $49 price was on pre-release, Pre-release has ended and pricing is now back to the regular, which is $99.
As noted though, you do not need to own V-Ray for tS7.5 to work well, and you will still be able to use V-Ray 1.0 with tS7.5 at no extra charge if you do not want to upgrade to V-Ray 1.5.
All the above is only fair to every group of users :)

That brings me to an idea. I always thought that subscription is the best way of trueSpace ownership because as long as you subscribe you get latest version of everything. One time yearly fee however certainly can be a hit on ones pocketbook without seeing the ongoing releases. Would you guys be interested in a subscription ownership of TS7.5 if you could pay more affordable monthly subscription fees (but with a minimum year long commitment)?
I can't see myself subscribing to this model. Sometimes - and this goes with any application - the upgrades aren't worth dealing with because of potential lost time relearning tools and messing up a production schedule, and I often find myself a few point releases behind until a major upgrade - something like tS7.5 - comes along and I have a real need to upgrade to get access to substantially new program functions.
However, other users may feel differently about this - but doesn't ProTeam provide similar access? ProTeam members get beta access to new features as they're implemented. I suppose splitting it off of ProTeam and allowing users just access to these betas and/or new patches would be good for those users who aren't interested in the courses but are early-adopters of new releases. |

Tom, thanks for confirming that VRay 1 will be properly integrated into tS7.5 and not just rigged up as an afterthought. VRay was a pretty expensive upgrade and I was disappointed with its integration into tS7.1, especially regarding usable/available shaders. It hasn't been worth its price so far (for me at least), so I am hesitant to sink more money into it. |

I wonder if VRay 1.5 works with tS7.11?
Just kidding...but I just got through trying to install VRay 1.0 into 7.5 to find it doesn't work. :(
I should have search the forum first.
So devs will make 1.0 patch for 7.5 - Then 1.0ers download it and love it so much they get an itch to upgrade to 1.5 jejejeje! Then nobody needs 1.0 patch anymore! LOL!
Save time by putting 1.5 on sale once more - Victoria Day Special? Memorial Day Special?
Everyone LOVES specials!!! |

While no one should be forced to upgrade I have to say that all development in tS vray will be for 1.5 from now on I guess and therefore £25 to upgrade as it was is a 'no-brainer'. I even paid and I am a tight fisted Yorkshireman...:D
Still, a patch should sort this out nicely. |

Oh, I'm planning on upgrading when the time is right. I've got to watch my pennies, too - I've only got forty some-odd car payments left, but so long as I get the average daily balance to a decent amount quickly it's $150 a month or so in interest as it is (a commitment I wish I never got into, but must deal with)...that's three upgrades to 1.5 every other month! YIKES!
I'm very tempted - you never know how many sunrises are left anyway, so might as well go for it. Loving 7.5 so far but want to stay away from incomplete feedback until I've got each item down: shouldn't be too long until I can confirm how pleased I am with the improvements to the stack (so many of them, too) but have to figure just how to speak of further groupings of related panels. Anyway....
VRay 1.5 looks like a heck of a deal. I just have to budget it in first, is all. |

There is one thing (not much I know :D ) I have learned from the past.
I do not invest in updates, that may have the features I want in some future.
No developer could promise you that this or that feature will make it in the next update and so it is an investement in luck even if its only 40 Dollars or less.
And my main thought against an upgrade to 1.5 is VRay4TS was realeased 01.12.2005. . VRay 1.5 was released 11.05.2007. So one and a half year later there are only 3 or 4 new features.... . This shows that VRay developing is not that important for caligari. |

It will be interesting to see what rendering engines will be in TS when the Bridge is gone. For those that didn't pay for VRay your options are slim...so far. |

Well Steini, you speak about a "maybe" future and I speak for now.
The Bridge is still in there and nobody from caligari says that the bridge is out in TS8 or if there will be TS8 or when.
With buying of VRay 1.5 I don't want to invest in future releases, I want to invest "in" now and now I do not see good reasons to upgrade.
If this changes in the future, then I will upgrade my VRay 1.0 it's as simple as that. |

LW would have to be integrated and nearly all useful model tools would have to make it before the bridge could be scrapped. I appreciate you cannot support old tsx and file formats forever, but the model is actually a nice technical place to work...for me at least...:o |

Oh, I'm planning on upgrading when the time is right.
Okay, so the time is right! :)
I couldn't resist the prerelease pricing for VRay 1.5!
So I had VRay 1.0 installed (but it didn't work) I installed VRay 1.5 over it (to my [drive]:\trueSpace75 directory). I switched to VRay render in prefs, but I could not render in VRay (yet).
So I uninstalled both VRays, restarted and posted here in hopes of finding out if I'm supposed to install to trueSpace75 directory or one more down?
Meanwhile, I'll give it another go and post back in a moment if it works. |

Eureka! It works beautifully! Those buttons do something now! Hooray! :jumpy:
For those VRay 1.0 users waiting for the patch, this is definitely a quick and worthwhile fix, especially at such great prerelease savings - what're you waiting for?
I spent less on VRay 1.5 than I did on "The Ultimate Matrix Collection" on HD DVD after my $25 discount. How could I not upgrade? Caligari, you left me no choice. Thanks. ;)
Also, Kudos on the special Memorial Day offer for active duty military personnel - we can never thank them enough for their service...hopefully trueSpace7.5 will provide an enjoyable alternative activity for many of our servicemen out there - my thanks to all of you! |

It's worth the $50 just for the addition of the mapped phong shader:

As an political refugee from former comunistic Czechoslovakia I do not take the freedom this country provided me for granted.
I would only hope that in addition to "enjoyable alternative activities" TS7.5 with its real time collaboration, advanced physics, Link Editor authoring etc could be also used for some "primary activities" too, particularly in training. |

I just re-enlisted in the local Guard Unit; I'll have to check the sale out...
Edit: I just noticed that it's only for people on active duty. I couldn't really afford it right now anyways; but kudos to you for doing this, I don't know any other company that would. ;)
Edit #2: As a mechanic, I can see many uses for training, especially using Powerpoint along with short animations and renders of components. Also graphics to go along with training courses. I'm sure there will be a few Active Duty personell that will take you up on it, if they check the main page of course. ;)

Hi all,
You should have received an email about the update, if you are a tS7.5 (or tS7.51) owner who did not upgrade to V-Ray1.5. If you fit that category and did not receive an email, check in with Customer Services, and do also check we have a valid email address for you on your customer details.

what with the 7.51 and Vray 1.51 owners ? will they get too a VRay 1.1 ?
Maybe this is faster than 1.51.
I am realy disappointed with the latest version.
It is slower than 1.x and the render result isn´t the same like in 1.x.
All my materialbibliothekes ar unuseful in 1.5x ;( |
