Hi all, I've been fooling around with tS7.5 since I got the download and I just got an idea. With all of the new animation capabilities in tS7.5, why not take advantage of that by holding a "Speed Animation Challenge" as opposed to the highly popular Speed Model Challenges.
So here are the rules:
* Animate the CrazyBob character that came with your copy of tS 7.5.
* You have 2 hours.
* You may have multiple characters in your animation, but CrazyBob should be the main focus.
* You may take scenes from this thread if desired:
http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=2471&highlight=ending+story
* Must include a screen grab of your scene inside of the tS7.5 interface.
* May use either keyframe animation, physics, or both (keyframe is preferred).
* Animation must be under 12 Megs.
* All entries are due on 12:00 PM May 20, 2007! |

Neat idea, and I like what you've got...but frankly, I'm so confused by the new U.I. (coming from 5.2 and only briefly with 6.6) that it's going to be awhile before I can do much more than frustrate myself! |

Ok, guess I spoke too soon! Here's my entry...1 hour 47 minutes (including rendering time and asking a stupid question here on the forums that I answered myself by reading the manual) :p
All keyframe animated rendered using XVID codec, rendered with lightworks.
My hats off to Caligari and the dev team if they can make something that seems so complicated at first look, but only 24 hours later I've created a better keyframe animation than I ever did in my several years with earlier TS versions!
*edit* Had to run my animation through moviemaker and turn it into a .wmv, apparently the forum here doesn't like .avi, it kept giving me an error trying to upload the original animation file that TS rendered out! |

Neat idea this is exactly what I was thinking when I posted in post #5
http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showpost.php?p=27891&postcount=5 (http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showpost.php?p=27891&postcount=5)
and then again in post #57
http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showpost.php?p=29870&postcount=57 (http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showpost.php?p=29870&postcount=57) |

Cr@p!
I keep forgetting rules! OK, here are all the rules in total:
* Make an animation of Crazy Bob
* Can include other characters, but CrazyBob needs to be the main focus
* Can use scenes from this thread:
http://forums1.caligari.com/truespac...t=ending+story
* Can either be done using KeyFrame Animation, physics, or both
* Can use any renderer, but it must be specified. (Mine was done with Vray)
* Time limit is 2 hours
* Must specify how long it took
* Must include a screen grab of your animation inside the tS7.5 interface
* Can make as many entries as you want
* All entries are due May 20th, 2007 at 12:00 PM
* Final entries must be no more than 12 megabytes! (each) |

Yes, that's correct...but it would be good to post the render time (though it's not required).
Excelent Idea

ThanX!!! It's nothing much...the idea was there already (I just happened to be the one who grabbed it). |

This is funny because just the other day I was thinking it would be cool to have a speed animating challenge too. I had no idea that it was thought of. I was trying to think of a way to do the challenge. I was thinking a type of movement could be picked for the subject i.e. running or jumping.
Very excited to get in on this too.

My hats off to Caligari and the dev team if they can make something that seems so complicated at first look, but only 24 hours later I've created a better keyframe animation than I ever did in my several years with earlier TS versions! Those two first entries just took my breath away! Two hours of production time after first day of product ownership, we must be doing something right. I want to see all those fancy 3D animation acredited school students paying heavy tuition to learn Maya, what they can show after first day of training. |

Don't worry, they will come, we are not as fast as you, nor have as much free time :D.
In the future it would probablybe best if we focus on just one type of motion per week (jump, walk, skip, death fall, waiting.... and on and on).

No matter what I try, my Crazy Bob animation renders as an .avi, and I am not allowed to upload that, how do I get a .wmv anyone? |

You can zip your animation then upload it that way.
Or maybe Norm could just add AVI to allowable file uploads...? :p

It's really fun playing with this. It took an hour to set up. It's not perfect, but there will be more soon. Thanks for the challenge, great idea! |

Just playing around this morning with testing TS, this is a 10 minute animation exercise. Nothing fancy, but it is very easy, which is the point. Animation is 95 frames, I put a keyframe every 30 frames. I just made some random poses and let the program do the rest.
Rich
[edit] I forgot to post the time I spent animating this guy.
approximate time 5 minutes
Render to animation 30 minutes |

We've only got two more days before the deadline...So let's see some more entries before then. (sorry for my impatience. It's just that it makes me anxious seeing all of the non-activity that's been going on here in the forums.) |

[edit] I forgot to mention the amount of time I made this animation in... approximately 15 minutes to pose the characters.
Rendering to animation was about 40 minutes
Sorry about not puttin gthe time in, I had meant to. |
