Hi all!

I was just browsing the forums and I thought I might start an interesting thread. It's just a simple question:

"What's the longest render you've ever done from any version of trueSpace, image or animation?"

Mine was the old version of my 20th Century Kid logo. Took more than an entire week for tS (6.5) to render a 15 second animation.

tS5.2, Dual PIII-600 with 512Mb RAM, 150 frame animation - 6 seconds worth.

Total render time was 6 1/2 days.

For a single image, tS6.6 1280x1024. P4 1.7Ghz with 1Gb RAM. I cancelled after 14 hours rendering: the image was about 20% rendered but I could see it was rubbish!

Single image - hmm, about 12 hours on tS6.6. That was on a celeron 533.

Couldn't say for sure, it was something like 10 or 12 hours, still image, way back in tS4, or maybe tS5. Then again it's been about that time since I made any big serious image, as around that time I started work at Caligari, and not had time since to make big images :)

My longest render was about 32 hours with 6.6. I hadn't discovered IBL's yet and was using the skylight, 'doh.

14 hours I would say, single image and it was about 4000 px x 6000px with TS7.1 and Vray, granted I had turned up all the settings to max.

I'm with Prodigy on that one! I was animating a Greek Trireme for my friend's project. I had it timed flawlessly so it'd be done the morning of the due date and I could just give him a CD with it on. What I hadn't counted on was that my dad would inexplicably go on my computer and close TrueSpace after it'd been cooking for three days. :D

I was not a happy lad. And we didn't get an extension on the project, so I had to render it out at like 640x480 overnight. I was furious.

The main one I recall was my cathedral scene, which took about 24 hours to render - was using TS4.3 on my P3 500MHz, can't remember the resolution but unlikely to have been higher than 4000x3000, but I had volumetrics.

What I remember being the worst bit was all the test rendering I had to do to get the lighting etc how I wanted it, doing area renders, adjusting the settings, doing another render, over and over - spent all my evenings for a week tweaking it!

Was worth it though - won my category in the competition I'd submitted it for!

My Workbench image from 2002, ts6.6, 6000x4625, 13 raytraced arealights(to fake GI...today I would've used VRay ;) ). Main render took 58hours.... :D

Hm, I think I've supressed my most horrible memory....but a customer render in 1999 (ts4 or ts5?) at 8000x6000, on an old computer (maybe 200MHz?) and way to little memory. Think a single render took 30-40hours....and I wasn't happy when the customer asked for changes close to deadline. :p

Even postwork in a very old version of PaintShopPro was a pain....any paintstroke took between 10-20minutes to update...had to turn off undo

So even if it isn't my longest single render....the combined total time from starting rendering and having a finished pic....;)

Every time I hear someone say that "computers evolve to fast!" and "why do you need a faster computer?"...I just want to slap them ;)

Just over 50 hours, tS 6.6 on my old machine. Same scene at twice the resolution took 7.5 hours on my new dual core machine.
