I know you are all playing with the nice new features but have you guys tried the new isometric view yet?

It is in the workspace view toolbar next to the camera...gives that instant Sims (Isometric Pixel Art) look to your scene and is great for architectural and interior shots as well as technical illustrations...:)

Oh yes, I'd missed that one. I don't mean to criticize the icon master but it is very similar to the perspective view icon and easily overlooked.

Works well though.

Aww, c'mon Steve...it is as different as I could make it at that size...and besides the perspective view definitely has a perpsectove look while the isometric has a...well, you get the idea.

Be warned though, it is just an illustrative 'isometric' view that needs a little adjusting by Caligari. If you do a real precise technical drawing you will see that cubes in the view do not quite line up properly...hard to explain and I will post an image, but I would not want to see anyone spending ages on a piece of work just to find this out.

Here is what I mean, probably easy to fix too. Best to use this for illustrative purposes just for now rather than for technical stuff...:o

Could you give a short explanation how this function is used?

I switched to this view but only see my scene from above or from a side.

How did you get the view you showed in your picture?

Aww, c'mon Steve...it is as different as I could make it at that size Sorry Bud, I didn't mean to insult your work on the icon and to be honest I'm not sure what I would of done differently. But at a glance the two can be mistaken for each other, but when you know its there then I guess there's no problem.

Works well though.

Guess I spoke too soon then:(

It's a shame that this function is not all it could be at the moment. I could see this being useful to some of my work if Caligari sort it out a little.

Wigand, there is no real function here-it is just an alternative view selectable from within the toolbar with the other views. Any scene you have made can be viewed just the same way as it might be from above or the left etc.

I simply made a scene with cubes and rectangles etc. which show it off well...which is how I spotted the slight 'misalignment'.

Still, it is a fun view to explore and maybe one to 'fix' for 7.6. I really like this view and made no secret of that while I was on the Beta team.

@Splinters - Just wanted to pass on kudos for the excellent icon design. I had a bit (only a bit) of trouble with 6.6 in this regard. I've had no problems distinguishing between them in 7.5 and this has made the learning process much easier. Plus they look great.

Thank you, it was hard work at times (not making them but making deadlines;) ) but I am very proud of the outcome and I am happy for a breather now and a chance to play with tS7.5 as an artist rather than a tester.
Also taking an indefinite break from the Beta team so I can still answer any questions I can about tS7.5 but I will have no idea about 7.6 or whatever is next...:o

Still, looking forward to posting some new stuff in the next few days...plenty lined up...:D

Took me ages to spot the misalignment :)

On feedback: I saw the Isometric View button right away and understood the icon's image as an isometric view

Thanks splinters I really appreciate your very helpful posts (and icons) and not to be spamming threads with loads of Thanks!! to people posting info and fixes, so many to thank lately it would look embarrassing so I segued it in there :)

Great to see an isometric view being included at last, not that it's going to help me anytime soon :(

As someone in the building industry, isometric and axonmetric views are very much preferred for technical drawings than perspective views and this has always been a headache with older versions of TS (I use TS5). In some instances, I've been able to use a workaround, which is to glue the whole object/scene together (including lighting) and rotate - when looking from an orthogonal view (I usually use front view) you can get an isometric-looking image (can' t say I've checked for the level of accuracy Splinters has shown).

Can be quite useful for compositing images together as no perspective distortion to account for...

Can someone else check this just to make sure it is not just me?

However, if it is incorrect, then it is still wrong as of 7.5.1...:(

Love this feature but can it be fixed?

Hey Paul:
Can you test this out and see if it is accurate.
Use the Eye tools, Rectangle Zoom and View Navigation Widget while in use.
Glitch: Sometimes you have to click in D3D View before
selecting the Reset View button. Be sure to reset the view
before closing this tool.

Works great...what a useful little tool. However, rotation should really be off as you can easily disrupt the isometric view from a technical point of view.

Strange how the view widget works very slowly compared to the eye/camera move icons. For instance nav zoom is so slow but using the icon zooms in really fast.

But why oh why can't Caligari fix the existing icon or remove it. It is next to useless as it is and both you and dele have provided more elegant solutions. They just render the one in the UI pretty redundant...:(

Cheers for this though, I can get some use out of the view now...:)

Well I think you answered your own question. My guess is it does not work as smoothly as the other views do. This does actually use the Eye Camera though. Honestly though I think that you would model in the other views and then use this view as final render and or a quick four corner look around. If you find that this is accurate then I will do so more work with it.

You are right that I would never model in Isometric view-just final render. Your tool is great although I have not checked it for accuracy against Caligari's and there is no need to work on it just at my request.

I still would like to hear Caligari's take on the existing function being slightly 'off'.
