Now it is out I guess it deserves it's own thread...:D
I, for one, think this will be a huge leap forward for Caligari as everyone can give it a try and see for themselves if this 'bridge thing' really is a problem or if the UI is reallly all that scary after earlier versions.
I look forward to giving it a spin and maybe more of my students will invest in it now...:)
Does this mean the Demo competition will be making a comeback...?? |

Well this is just great...full version of tS with Vray as well. As long as you are not doing production quality/commercial work-this is all you need to learn the program and the watermark is not that bad anyway when judging the results of your labour.
Thanks for bringing this out (and Vray too), I see a lot more users signing up after using this...:D |

I downloaded it, installed it then said "Ack, how do I open a file??" One thing about trueSpace that I really have disliked over the years was the constant rearranging of the UI. I found the handy trueSpace6 tab at the top but that didn't help me find the file menu at the top of the screen instead of the bottom! |

That is a fair comment. However, go to the default view. Then, click on the model tab and the file menu is over to the right at the top, near the side-panel.
Not sure how you do this from the workspace. |

OK; I've downloaded it, now to go home and check it out. Will report back with computer specs and performance.
I don't care about the watermark at all; I just wanted to see how it would run on my system and check out all the new gizmos (and the new UI).:)

Edit: How long does the trial last for? |

As far as I can tell, it is save/load limited and this applies to plug ins as well. But I cannot see any mention of a time limit so I guess this really is Caligari's PLE version of tS7.5...:D :D
I have several happy students today...:)
Oh, and the UI is lovely...... |

That's good to hear that there is no expiration. The UI is very nice. :)
So far trying to render the glass scene with VRay brings my computer to a halt; it took almost 5 minutes just to get 1% on it (my comp was registering 100% usage). My specs are as follows:
-2.8 Pentium D
-1GB DDR RAM
-256MB ATI Graphics Card
I know that I need another Gig of RAM though, so that would probably help speed things up quite a bit. When I'm in the Workspace (Player), and in 4 windows mode, rotating around is a bit slower too.
All in all it's a HUGE improvement, and since there's no time limit; I'm free to keep exploring it. :)

Just curious-what is the exact name of the scene that you are referring to as the 'glass scene' ?
EDIT: Ok, I see it "GLASSY Scene"
Thanks

Jeesh, Roman, I would think somebody but me would write to tell you that the Guided Tour is Very Helpful! (But we need More and Longer! :) ) How about a (huge) discount on the Tutorial Lessons? :jumpy:

You know it wouldn't be such a bad idea to either put together a 'Getting started with 7.5 Course' or maybe better yet, reduce the price of the existing 'GS with 7.0' for people (like me) who are just starting to learn TS - I think a lot of the questions you see on this Forum would be answered. (Things that make you say, Hmmmm....)

So I am giving this glassy vray scene a render and am getting similar results to Keith. After an hour and 20 minutes my status bar says "Building caustics photon map... Vray Step 19%"
I'm passing time around the office by refreshing the new posts page on the forum, juggling two foam balls with one hand, making jokes about co-workers who took a long holiday weekend and wandering around the office in circles. I can't image that I have another 4-5 hours of this just to see how a couple of glasses and the caligari logo look in Vray.
Any suggestions on how I can give Vray a test run without wasting an entire work day in the process?

Wow, 3 Gigs?? I guess another Gig won't make a difference for me then.
The guided tour is available for download on the same page as the demo. |

If you're using the glass scene I'm thinking of, that was Noko's scene demonstrating his "realtime" glass shader. It is meant for the realtime view. Not sure if that has anything to do with the rendering time or not, but it may seeing as it's not intended for Vray. If you want to test Vray caustics though, I would suggest making a Vray glass material in new material editor and applying it to a simple object. Right click on one of the material tools to bring up the material editor in the "panels" view of the stack.
If you look in the library browser there is a Vray material library that you can open too. There aren't many materials there though. We really need to assemble a larger material library for Vray. |

Maybe I'll apply a glass material to the car, or the Rhino and see how long it takes. :) |

Hi all,
The Glassy scene is indeed a real-time scene using real-time shaders. You'll note it takes a while to load as it all gets set up.
This is NOT intended for any form of offline rendering (V-Ray, LW, Virtualight) and the results will be unpredictable to say the least :)
To try out things like caustics, glass, etc, it is best to create your own test scene, I can't think of anything set up specifically in the libraries that would instantly work well as tests of those, but it wouldn't take much to try it out!
HTH!

Hiya.
I'm still a bit on the fence about tS7.5, but I'm leaning slightly towards the "Like it" side (you know, the one with the really nice grass? ;) ).
The "Guided Tour" was nice in that it showed me some of the new stuff tS has. Very cool.
The down side I have right now: no documentation. I have no idea how to do a few basic things. I come from Softimage XSI (ok, originally I used tS 2 thru 4.3), so I'm used to a few ways of doing things. Ex: Use one key and the three mouse buttons to rotate/move/zoom around the workspace...or hit "E" for edges, "T" for points/vertexes, "F" for faces or hit the "~" for object. Those kind of things.
So, is there a manual to DL somewhere? Or maybe in the near future? :) |

I looked over the guided tour, and it was a pretty nice intro. However, I would have liked to see something about rendering using V-Ray in it (especially with caustics).

I too am enjoying the TS 7.5 demo !
But as others have mentioned we really need a complete manual.
Way too much going on/changed to just jump in and really explore.
Looking forward to a DL manual, as it's all just fun and games without one.
Heck how the heck do I detach a skeleton from Crazy Bob and attach it to my own mesh...?
Think It has to do with the LE but does not appear to be a button as in TS 6.6. |

However, I would have liked to see something about rendering using V-Ray in it (especially with caustics).I think we can arrange for it in near future. We have also added QuickGuide to Guided Tour with all Icons and many panels. It was not included with first few downloads off Guided Tour, make sure your Guided Tour includes it.
As manual I am not sure we can do it. You guys have great images, you have testimonies of TS7.5 owners, you have Guided Tour animations, Captain's Blog, you have Trial version, you have a community, why not just order TS7.5 and if you still do not like it we give you refund for 30 days.
We are working on the manual BTW intensely for paying customers, next week we should have a better version, including those promised videos. |

Keith, Caustics is very easy, fast and intuitive. Simply add a light and a glass material and Voilà!.. not only get the clasic "Caustic" you can get real light bounces.. i mean, in real life, if you had a mirror and point with a spot to the mirror.. the light bounce on a 100% to your side.. hope you understand me hehehe..:p
With caustics you can reflect the light on a Mirror or Glass object like in real life...:)
The UI is very intuitive and very very usesfull to make water, glass, mirror reflections, etc.
You can easyly change the intensity of the caustic and it not depends on the light souce...
About the speed?? is very very quick.. and plus you can set for example 100photons to make a fast render and see if you like the results and then add other 1000 photons to get a final result..
Another Plus, you can save your caustic calculation so you can calculate once.. ;)
Hope that helps Keith
Cheers!!:jumpy: |

Hi Vinny,
Just use the attach to skeleton tool and click on the actor mesh in 7.5, holding cntrl is not neccesary.
make sure the actor is selected in the workspace first.

Thanks!
Mr Bones gave you the directions for attaching a rig to a mesh...
Basically you can go into the LE into the actor node, in there is a skeleton node, just CTRL drag that into a rig library anbd you are good to go.
In case you run into problems this is the skeleton for CrazyBob walking rig that Oliver Roe posted here in the forums.
