I can't find the File menu in TrueSpace 7.5. I routed through the e-manual and found it referenced, with all its usual tasks listed, load, save, etc., but where it is on the screen? After scanning the interface for some time, I pressed ALT+F to see it would open but a small menu opened with 1D, 4D, and other such entries in it, but not the File menu. Can anyone point me in the right direction please? |

Whichever layout you are in Paul, you need the model side open to get access to the file menu (top right of UI).
Good luck and enjoy... |

The workspace uses import in the libraries to load up tS7 scenes, objects, layouts and the like (and export from the libraries to write outside of the file structure you define for the libraries).
The old File menu for loading tS6.6 (and earlier) scenes and objects is over on the Model view only. Kind of like legacy scenes, legacy side to load them; new scenes, new side to load them.
HTH!

@TomG
so to load a model i have made into workspace, ive got to go to model side to import it...
a bit cumbersome if you cant do it directly from workspace side... if it is the only way, is thre going to be a way to do it when the legacy 6.6 stuff goes..
Thanks |

Nah just double click on the scene or model in the library you saved it in on Workspace side.
To add 7.5 scenes that are not in a library just right click in the library you want to add them to and select import.

maxd,
Export as .obj in Silo - open Model side in TS - go to File (upper right by the '3D') - Load object (select your Silo file) I think that should do it
Hope this helps,

You can also save that imported object from Model side to the new Library stack by rt click - insert as object. It saves as the new .rsobj extension there though - if you want it to be a .cob I guess you have to save on Model side into the old Library system.

@rff.
im not asking how to load into model side. i know i can do that,
but if model side is to go, ie legacy TS6 stuff, then there must be a way to load into workspace eventually, just not atm...
loading into model side then having to open workspace and save as rsobj is a little longwinded fro a simple import save...
not even tried to export a model to another package yet.. is that possible... |

It is however correct.
Model...Load/Object

Then switch to Workspace. Do you see your imported object?
Your choice to save as RsObj in Workspace to library or
switch to Model and save as Cob or Save As to different format.

Keep in mind that 3D object import/export is not a reliable or exact science. ;) Each app seems to evaluate the file format descriptions differently.
You'll want to use the LUUV plugin on model side for .obj import/export. It's does a better job than the built in importer/exporter.
Importer/exporters on Workspace side for bringing in files from other apps is one of the things that Roman has said he wants to do next. You may want to check out the file formats thread and add your voice for formats that would be useful for you.
You'll have to ask Roman about when they'll be available. I suspect the answer may well be as soon as possible.

I'm at work right now, so cannot check for myself... can we not right-click in a library in the stack on the right and choose import? |

Currently only for 7.11 and 7.5 formats. My guess is that as new/old formats are added to WS side that simply right clicking and choosing import would be the way to go.

Ah.. that would explain it then. I converted all my ts3 stuff into ts5 when I got it and then converted to ts6.6 when I got that and then converted to 7.1. I still need to convert them to 7.5
I'm jut a pack rat. I never know when I'm going to want to play around with one fo those older models. |
