Hi Folks.

Here is perhaps the most dumbest question you'll ever read, but how do you render in TrueSpace 7.5.

No, don't laugh, let me explain...

Look at this image.

http://www.iol.ie/~pkb/Render.jpg

Here is TrueSpace 7.5 on my computer. Now, as you can see, I've selected to render in Lightworks however, the render button at the bottom of the screen still says VRay rendering. And if I click it, it will attempt to render using the VRay demo I've installed, but it doesn't render in Modeller mode.

Now, you see that VRay button, that's been there since day one! I don't have VRay but the very first time I ran TrueSpace 7.5 after install it, that button was there. Is that correct???

How do I tell TrueSpace to render using the selected render engine, and not VRay?

And by the way, VRay doesn't render this scene for me. When I try to do so, TrueSpace crashes.

That render button is just for Vray1.5 in the workspace side. Use the other render button in the model view.

Thanks, Délé.

Kind of confusing have two render buttons, isn't it? Does that mean if I want to render any scene without using VRay, I have to switch over to Model side to get access to the render button?

I don't know if this will help you, but if I know I'm going to need to render a lot, I start in Model - then hit the 3D Window button. It allows me access to both Model and Workspace at the same time - you can even see the Model side update as you work in WS. I hope this helps,

Vray is the only one written into the new architecture. The other rendering engines are still written in the old architecture (model side).

question then:

if we do all our modelling and texturing, and animation on the workspace side, but want to render out a still frame or animation, is any information/detail lost? Reason I am asking is, the workspace side has all the new technology, while the modeller side is 6.6.

thanks,

I've been modelling in Workspace and Model sides, depending on what tools I want to use (Workspace has some excellent model making tools like softpaint and so on that Model side lacks).

Because I'm wanting to render using my beloved LightWorks renderer I do all my texture and UV work in Model side (with a Workspace window open at the same time so I have the best of both worlds).

Next I go back to Workspace and do my character rigging (and if I was animating this is where I would do that too), whilst simultaneously having a Model window open for test renders using LW.

Others will be able to confirm and /or add to this but I believe that once your animation is set up in Workspace you can then return to Model side and render the animation out as a series of frames just as in tS 6.6 but using animation settings created in Workspace (at least I think that's right - I'm not much of an animator).

I'm still learning and refining my approach but this is the workflow that I've found works best for me so far - it probably helps that I'm running dual monitors and have a workplace window, Link Editor Window and Stack view open on one monitor and a model window open on the other.

Yes you are correct.

For me I dont like the fact that Vray is 1.0 in model side and 1.5 in workspace but the VRay properties panel is the same for BOTH  Another challenge is that the scene layout between workspace and model is different. I like the model tools offered on the workspace side but I dont like the scene navigation widget (maybe I need to get used to it but at current it is not intuitive like the model side scene navigation widget). So I may have a perfect layout on the model side and I am able to COMPARE the render engines on the SAME scene layout but if I want to use Vray 1.5 I have to go to workspace side and attempt to layout the scene view exactly as I ALREADY HAVE IT on the model side. I find workflow between render engines AND views (workspace and model) to be cumbersome! I hope to see improvements in next release.

And I thought Lightwave was ackward for having the Modeller and Layout seperate!

May take a bit of getting use to but shouldn't be too hard to wrap my head around. Thanks for all the info and suggestions, appreciate it.

Hmmn - I've not run into this problem because I really only use the LW renderer - thus the Workspace view is simply a different type of realtime preview for me. Now we have the middle mouse button working the same in both views I found it didn't take very long to get used to having two slightly different nav widgets.

When you say "I may have a perfect layout on the model side" I assume you mean layout of the scene rather than layout of the windows. Have you tried using a camera object? Even a simple cube can be used as a camera in model side (not sure about Workspace side) but even if you have to glue a Workspace camera to your camera object in the Workspace it should be fairly simple to get both the scene layout (what I would call the composition of the scene ) identical in both Model and Workspace. Using this approach you should be able to render the same scene with the same composition using any one of the 4 renderers (you would have to adjust the material components accordingly for each renderer). You should then be able to blend the resultant pictures in your favourite 2d app. (PSP, the GIMP etc) and get the best of all worlds.

This is largely assumption on my part though as I've not tried it myself.

This is not true - the same engine (1.5) is used in both Model and Workspace renders.

I will take your suggestions into consideration as I do need to modify my workflow to accomdate both sides. It would be nice if tS had a "sync view" button that would work across the bridge.

It is going around that Vray 1.5 is workspace only....?

That render button is just for Vray1.5 in the workspace side. Use the other render button in the model view.

As far as I am aware, only Vray 1.5 is installed so there is no way to access Vray 1.0 (if you have installed Vray 1.5). The bridge links to the render engine through the model side. Try turning the bridge off and you cannot perform a Vray render from model side...:o

It's just a mistaken interpretation of what Dele was saying. To clarify:

- There is a V-Ray render button in Workspace to allow you to render within Workspace without going over the bridge.

- You can also render with V-Ray in Model (with a different button). It uses the same V-Ray engine as Workspace, and will produce the same results (but note that you can specify different render settings in Workspace and Model which could potentially give different results)

- Lightworks and VirtuaLight renders can only be performed in Model
