Congratulations to Zachary and Steve and everyone else. I've been so busy learning that I haven't actually made any completed art for ages thus I didn't enter anything this time around. I hope to have something by the end of this month though - it's winter here now and nothing better to do than trueSpace..... |

While I echo all the praise here, the winning image, and all the rest, are fantastic images, I do have a problem with the winning image. I can't wrap my head around it and see it as a single image!
LOL!
No, don't laugh, let me explain...
If you look at it, there is a hard edge just off to the left of the centre of the image which to me seems to split the image in two. When I look at it, I see, on the left, a hallway with a chair at the end of it, on the right, a room, with light beams crossing both images making them one.
Don't get me wrong, it's a fantastic image, and I'm not putting it down in any way, it's just that hard edge splits the image for me and makes it look like two different images, side by side, with light beams crossing them both. |

Paul,
I think the 'clue' to this (if there is one), can be found in the email name - 'digital dali'. Maybe we should be looking for 'visual surprises'. His work is Outstanding, isn't it?

Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm not putting down the image in any way, shape or form. It's a great pice of artwork. All I'm saying is, to me, it looks like two images side by side, instead of one image. But yes, it's a great piece of work indeed. |

Mike RNever be afraid to enter. I'm not all that great shakes myself, and the image I submitted didn't even get honorable mention this month. But I have gotten honorable mention before, and as I work and learn more, I'm sure I will only get better. |

I actually did the scene in 3 phases, and you could be seeing where one of the seams are...in anycase, I didn't decide to change very much regarding that simply because of the nature of the piece. I go to these weird little places in my dreams and they're always a mix-match of different rooms slammed together. I do agree, it could've been better...but ultimately I was ready to move on to another piece. I get bored easy when it comes to my own art:( |

Digitaldali, please don't misunderstand me. As I've said above, I'm NOT putting down your image in any way. I really do think it's a fantastic piece of work. All I was saying is, to me, it's hard to see a single image. That hard edge just off to the left of centre makes it look like two different images side by side. But your image is great, don't think that I am saying otherwise, please. |

Don't worry, I don't take anything too serious about my art....I like some of my pieces better than others. Why shouldn't I extend my audience the same courtesy:P
As far as painting, I don't. I've tried traditional mediums throughout my life and I can't paint, draw or even take a decent photograph to save my life.
Oh I think you'll like the tutorial if you get it:)it goes over some good, general stuff. I intentionally made it pretty fundamental and included some important, unsung techniques, like creating a seamless textures from a picture and some basic matte painting techniques I think you'll enjoy and get a lot out of! And of COURSE I'll answer any and all questions you may have...just drop me a line anytime!

Thanks Zach. Yours is fantastic like always. One of these days I'll get there :)
Very nice images everybody. I'm surprised mine got in. As you all know, it was a speed modeling challenge, and my wife said I should submit it, so I did :)
