Vray shaders slow down Truespace.

If I try and use any of the vray shaders apart from plain color and image map, I find that Truespace slows down a huge amount. Everything else works well its just this one thing.

Doesn't make sense really but its not a slight slow down. I could choose the vray brick shader lets say and wait about 15 seconds before I can do anything else. This includes changing the settings of the shader.

... I have just checked and it takes between 9 seconds and 25 seconds depending on which shader is being chosen. 9-25 Seconds to load the shader...9-25 seconds to change a setting... 9-25 seconds to change it back a bit as it changed to far... 9-25 seconds.... Well you get the picture I hope. lol.

Plain color and image are the only ones that load with no delays.

Makes it all a bit useless trying to do anything properly in Vray.

Any ideas or is this a bug.

Cheers

I think It's an individual bug... I've experimented with various shaders, and have no problem. Mostly the checkered ones, but als the wood and bricks. I get no slow down at all. Have you made sure you have updated drivers etc..?

If I install the latest gfx drivers then all of Truespace slows down or crashes bringing my entire pc down with it. I fought with that for a couple of days before going back to earlier drivers and had no problems ever since. Except for now.

If its a driver issue (I have an Nvidia 6800 card) I would like to know what drivers work the best with TS.

Vray shaders are slow to update for me too, but not unbearably. Apparently the material section is a live vray render which could be contributing to it's sluggish performance.

Oh. Now thats a pain then. As its of no use to me and past my 30 day money back for Vray if I have to wait for each slight change.

Personally I think you're better off hanging on to vray as it's rendering quality is excellent imo. You can turn off the live update as well which should speed things up. I'm using a sempron machine with a 6600gt and I don't seem to be suffering any widow-making slowness.

I guess if you're really that disillusioned with it maybe you can talk directly with Caligari for a refund as you're only just over the 30 day money back by my calculations.

I will have to have a look at how to switch off the live update as you called it. I still find it strange though as I can render full scenes with GI and texture maps quicker than 20 seconds at 640x480. lol. Maybe not quite that quick but its pretty fast.

Why do I need to use the vray shaders (brick etc) when the ones in model view work and render perfectly well in vray anyway??? Is there something I am missing? At least this way I don't get pause start all the time and can just get on and work. Thank goodness. :D

Spoke too soon. If your model is created in Workspace certain things don't translate well between model space and workspace so holes can get closed etc so you end up with a wrecked model.

Back to the drawing board.

Just been looking round the forums and the series of images on this thread is what I have been seeing.

Really a pain as if this problem was fixed then the slow response of vray shaders would be irrelevant.

Cheers
