Hi

I have a friend that does forensic animation. Like car crashes and whatnot for lawyers. I have done a little work for him recently and I quite like it. I talked to him about it and he seems to think I have what it takes to do this kind of work. So I'm gonna give it a go. I'm gonna give myself a goal of 6 months to come up with a demo and a website. I want to do the work with truespace, I think its suited well for this. He recommends I do stuff like a slip and fall animation and a rudimentary car crash for my demo. Then aim for work with small law firms to start with at very reasonable rates to get my foot in the door.

Is there anyone doing this kind of work currently with truespace? I would love any advice I can get.

Also is there anyone interested in this kind of work that can really devote their time to it? I would love to partner up with others on this. If it takes off it will probably mean some modeling work for truespace artists here on the forum too.

So here you have the humble beginnings of a new business, a spark in my mind.

I would love to hear anyone's views on this venture.

to be honest, i've never considered using 3d for this but you see it in a lot of documentries. There are probably loads of uses for truespace i've never thought of.

I'd be willing to give it a go. I'm in the middle of trying to put together a few texture cds/ libraries, one is based on city textures, it could come in useful.

All depends on whether you can incorporate all the physics parameters. Friction is very important fro accident examinations, and I'm not sure if truespace does it very well.

If your work is illustrative i.e. visualising how a client slipped and fell down some steps for a legal team to assess then that would work. Not sure tS is up to recreating the physics for medical or forensic purposes though as Chris said.

Sounds great Jayr. Yes good textures will come in very useful. Are you interested in working any other aspects of this as well?

My friend has been doing car crash animations for years and to the best of my knowledge he uses keyframe animation for this. I could be wrong. I have to ask him. But we were using the same software for a long time, and although it had physics capabilities I don't know how advanced they were or if they used them. He will fill me in on the details. I know he said the software had limitations he had to find work arounds for, but that is expected in any software I suppose. I would imagine to get the accuracy needed for this type of work you would need to use keyframe animation though. He tells me there is very little room for error in this. This work would be illustrative for court cases.

I will definitely ask him about what you guys are saying. I am new to this so I have a lot to learn. Thanks for feedback. Looking forward to more.
