Hi folks,
In a recent thread here at the Roundtable I posted a free download of a skydome and ocean/island terrain model for everyone to enjoy. The particular texture I used for that skydome was ok but I decided to add a few more here so people could use these new textures in their scenes with that same skydome model (which is already set up for this size texture).
So here's the thread that has the skydome model for you to download:
http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=3425
NOTE that the download zipfile is attached there to Post #9
Below are some images of 11 new textures for that skydome which are in this thread in an additional zipfile just below the images here in the third post.
Be aware that the zipfiles for these textures are nearly 20 meg large combined because these files are huge for good texture resolution on the skydome!
Enjoy, hope you all find them useful! :D

NOTE: The upload failed - too large probably although just under 20 meg
I'll split the zip into two zips and upload it in my next reply here - hang on a sec....

OK... here's the last sample image followed by TWO Zip Files of textures then!;)
Enjoy,

Thanks for the Skydomes and Terrain and water files, now the hard part - I actually have to do something with them :)
If you don't mind my asking, what do you use to create the skydomes?
Thanks Again,

You're welcome!
I use Vue d'Esprit 4 for the textures but the actual skydome model is simply a trueSpace nurbs sphere. The nurbs sphere is then treated with a translucent shader and set to neither cast nor receive shadows. Works great!
All you need to do is open the scene on model side of TS7.xx or in TS6.6 and when you are inside the dome select it and play with the Material Editor to swap textures. You can also of course rotate the dome to display a desired feature of the texture behind whatever foreground scene you place within the dome.
Fun stuff and a great effect, hope it helps with some scenes for you. Also, I'm running a rendering challenge in that other thread so if you find the time be sure to share what you do with it all there! :D
Thanks,

Looks awsome! I always appreciate it when someone is willing to share their hard work with the community! I'll try them out and if I can make something worthwhile, I'll be sure and credit you! |

Thanks Forcemaster2000,
No need to credit me on anything, it was all actually created very easily in hardly any time at all!
I honestly couldn't call this "hard work" at all, here's all it took:
I made each texture in Vue d'Esprit4 (an excellent trueSpace companion tool available very cheap now if you hunt around on the web) by simply loading default atmospheres in and altering them slightly then inserting a ground/water plane and applying textures to it then assigning render size params and hitting the Panoramic Render checkbox... takes only 5 minutes total for each render from start to finish! :D
Even the cool terrain model was made in Vue and exported to trueSpace for texturing in under 4 minutes, and the SkyDome object itself only took another 2 minutes in trueSpace to create!
This SkyDome Set is a handy set to have for playing with trueSpce rendering though, especially if you're on a deadline with a project and don't have additional time to play with creating a fairly decent environment set from scratch.
Of course the SkyDome textures have to be relatively huge though if you're wanting a good render with lots of detailed sky features, but the huge textures can be easily replaced with simpler low-res textures for projects intended for online or shared space usage.
So if you start using these and need a color or sky feature which I haven't provided here yet just let me know and I'll see if I can whip one up to fit your particular render needs. There's hundreds of control options to play with in Vue for every little aspect of the atmosphere, so the odds are I could probably make whatever you may require for a given scene free and easily! :D
Hope to see some renders soon from you in my other thread linked to above, but if not just have a blast anyway, having fun is really the whole idea! :D
Glad to help,

Any chance of a post with each of the files seperately or further divided into smaller zip files - lately I've been having problems downloading larger files from the forum for some reason.
I'd like to have a go at your challenge, but with one of these skydome images rather than the original.
NB - do you know if your archive file will open with TS5? Haven't tried yet - may have problems downloading that zip too... :(
Cool idea, and good of you to suplpy the materials! |

Hi Nez,
Actually I'm not too sure how warmly additional zipfiles in these two threads would be recieved on the part of the Admin here since I'm already up to about a 26+ meg load on these two threads alone! ;)
If there's a particular image in that panorama set which I could zip for you though and pop it in here, like "fifth from the top" or whatever, that's fine.
I never had trueSpace 5 though which raises two potentially related issues... first does trueSpace 5 support NURBS? (Because the SkyDome itself is a NURBS Sphere and must be) and two, these textures are HUGE... how large of a texture is supported in horizontal pixels by TrueSpace 5?
If the answer on NURBS is "yes," then go ahead and download the SkyDome posted in this thread. Be aware though that the texture for that which is already included in that zipfile is also HUGE.
If you need a specific filesize of texture I can easily do that although since these images were made on the fly I'd have to attempt to replicate one of the examples but it wouldn't be an exact replication. It wouldn't do to simply downsize one of these files as it would lead to enormous distortion once resized. Give me a horizontal max in pixels though and it's no problem, just remember to also tell me which example I should attempt to replicate in that size for you.;)
OK?
Thanks,
