Well, all missile hatches, launchpads and "conning towers" are more or less done at this point.
I tested the engine interior texture and it still looks alright, but I'll map it like the external engine exhaust faces later on because it's just easier to paint.
At this point it's just a matter of getting the texture work done.

Another quick update. I believe the current level of detail on the top side is what I'll be using for the entire hull. It will give me the right amount of surface to play with later on in Photoshop. The aft section is a bit denser, but I fear that it may cause problems with I do the bump mapping, I'll therefore increase the line art spacing.

Ok, got some more work done on the bow. Top and bottom will have near identical texture outlines, I'll probably modify the line art around the hatches and launch bays, but other than that, this should be close to done.
There is still some minor distortion in some places, I'll have to see what I can do about that when I do the final tweaks on the UV map.

And in case you've been wondering all along, this isn't Spiderman's new ride... this is just UU3D's default red shader... :D I just realized that the black and red line art looks a bit like Spidey's suit... well, that's not the look I'm aiming for at all. |

:) was wondering about the red. Amazingly intricate detail you're putting on this!

Thanks, my plan is to put as much detail into the skin as possible and using as few polygons as necessary and if I'm not mistaken, this thing is starting to look a bit threatening to me because of it, so I think it's working. :D
Anyway here are a couple more screenshots: (click on the links for low compression captures.)

Next step will be to iron at the last distortions, fix the engine exhausts and try out that Photoshop bump-mapping plug-in. |

Ok, so I went and played around the fun part a bit. I installed the PS plug-in, and the bump mapping filter(s) and here are the results, I'm not really sure I'm doing it right yet, so the results are a little underwhelming. For added effect, I played around with dual-tone shading, I haven't decided yet which one looks best, which one do you think looks best? The bump map turned my "red" model into this "gray" one. I'll have to play around the filters a bit more to see what else I can do with them.
One thing is sure, the texture will have multiple layers, since I want to be able to render the ship in different colors and conditions, it's supposed to be a military vessel after all so I will add some battle scaring later on (when necessary).
So here are a couple more screen captures: (click on the links for low compression files.)

The single-tone bump-mapped version for comparison:

I think at this point I have to take a few design decisions before moving on. |
