I wasn't sure where to put this - its not an image but an animation and its not a work in progress - I 've finished working on it. It is a bit of a monster so maybe the "Garage" but in the end I decided to put it in "Roundtable" because there is an issue. I had thought of entering this animation for the competition but I wasn't sure if it met the criteria given that its quite clearly a bit of advertising.

I work above a shop which recently got a new large flatscreen dislay unit and I hatched a plot to get them to display some of my stuff so I made this little promo for them to run between the other things they show. I wasn't paid to do this - it was a project I undertook in my own time at lunchtimes and at home in the evenings.

When you watch the animation there is a still bit with some very cheesy synth chords that goes on a bit. I did have some other blatant advertising text composited over the top but I chose to leave that out for the purposes of this version.

Would it be suitable for the competition?

Feedback welcome.

Lol, I could see that getting either Runner Up or Honerable Mention! It is extremely easy to get an animation on the Caligari galleries. I submitted some of the simplest animations you'll ever see, and nine of them made it under Special Recognition (and a few were scattered among the months). Here's a link: http://www.caligari.com/Gallery/Animations/2007/mar/default.asp (the one's under Special Recognition are mine) I think it was pretty good, sound kinda weird, and I like how the "P" falls at the end!:D Maybe a bit too long... Idk, it was pretty good!

I'm not worried so much about whether its good (or bad!) enough more that it was advertising something and that might make it unsuitable. I was hoping for some opinions on that issue. The stuff I removed had the address and slogan so it's less overt than it was but its still an ad. Can't say as I've ever seen anything in the galleries that looked like an advert before.

Oh, for advertising, it would be good! (Apologies for the misinterpretation)

I'd think the problem wouldn't be so much Caligari's as it would be the company who's trademark(?) you'd be using.

Calgiari has the following note on their Monthly Gallery Contest

Important notes: a duplicate of a product you already own cannot be selected as as prize; money off your next Caligari purchase is cumulative with previous such prize selections; by submitting your artwork, you authorize Caligari and their partners to use your artwork in promotional materials, and materials related to Caligari products, without compensation. You will be given credit for your artwork if you include your name with your submission. In the event that there are not enough quality submissions to each month's Contest, Caligari reserves the right to not choose a winner. All prizes are subject to change without notice, and are at the discretion of Caligari.

Since the shop you mention would hold the rights to the use of their name you could probably do so as long as they are willing to permit it. I'd guess that Caligari would be happy to show the "business potential" of their product though that's really up to them. I don't really think of the gallery as an advertising billboard and I doubt it would be taken in that context by your submission to the contest.

Just my own opinion but I'm neither a lawyer or contest judge :)
