I had the case that after closing TS a message showed up that an unexpected something happened, and a dump file will be created. I clicked OK button then. But where is the dump file now? |

Hi Tiles,
This probably should have been publicly explained to everybody given how important it is to us all, or maybe it was and I just missed it somehow.
Anyway, as you probably already know, trueSpace7.51 has a built-in bug-reporting feature which creates these "trueSpace crash report.dmp" files (when you opt to do so during a crash) to your trueSpace root directory so that you can then post them along with a message to Caligari Devs in the "Bugs" section of the Forums here as an attachment.
They ask that you provide as clear an explanation as possible as to precisely what actions led to the crash and to provide them with your system specs as well (including video card specs) to aid them in diagnosing exact cause and related preventative measures.
So you should see the file in your trueSpace root directory named "trueSpace crash report.dmp" and post it in the bugs section here accordingly. The more of us do this and the more often, the sooner bugs will be eliminated for us all.
Glad you asked, I'll bet a lot of folks have just been ignoring them altogether, and I admit I've ignored plenty myself while trying to get something accomplished against the clock. We all should be doing it though daily.

Well, i would have also expected to find the dump file in the root directory. But it isn't. There is no file called trueSpace crash report.dmp nor any other *.dmp file around. That's why i asked :)
Seems that the bug report is buggy :p |

Well this is amusing.
I have a file in my trueSpace root directory called "trueSpace crash report.dmp" so I figured that was one of the reports I ignored in the past. If it saved to a different directory that's odd, try checking your "My Documents" folder if you have XP maybe, just a guess though.
A Buggy Bug Reporter.... don't ya just love it? Hahahaha!

I am thinking that it is automatically sent out, that is how it is working in the betas. I think it is just that the error message might not have been updated in TS7.51. Early betas would give you the message and than bring up Windows Explorer File Selector for you to put the file where you wanted.

I think depending on the crash sometimes TS isn't in a state to be able to write out the crash dump. Normally when a crash dump is created it pops up a save dialog which allows choice of save location and filename.
