Hi all! I'm posting this thread for a number of reasons, first of all to see if anyone from the tS community has been getting emails from MetaCafe.com. I have, and I recently joined them because it allows you to gain money.
According to them, 1000 views = $100 (or whatever that is in your currency), and seeing as these sites usually get millions of viewers per day, that should be no problem. The problem is that in order for you to get the cash, your video needs to have a rating of 3.0 or higher. That might not seem like a problem, but based on what I've seen, the MetaCafe community is filled with harsher critics than usual.
Here's a comparison between my video on Youtube (Click here (http://youtube.com/watch?v=x-z3XT1tHoI)), and the same thing on MetaCafe (Click here (http://www.metacafe.com/watch/705594/20th_century_kid/)).
Anyway, the main point of this thread is that I had an idea. What if a whole bunch of us joined MetaCafe, posted our stuff, gave each other links to them here, then voted/viewed the content for each other so that we could all get a bunch of cash? Anyone with?

Nah... Might not be what MetaCafe wants it's users doing, but it's not illegal. Essentially, your doing what they offer, but instead of waiting for people to discover your videos and view them, you get "known friends" to do it.
In other words, your just begging people to click on a link, and succeeding. |

I wouldnt worry about posting the links here. They encourage you to send links to friends. The only thing I did in truespace on that video was the dancing guy, but I will have more truespace stuff soon.
It's weird, I have 0 views but a rating of 2.13. Is that just what they start you at or something? Doesn't seem right. |

That link just about killed my computer. I got a pop up saying someone was trying to violate my privacy, then it ran a scan, which I think was fake, and I didn't see the video... Sorry, but for the sake of my computer, I don't think I'm going to try it again... :(

That animation was all keyframed.
I'm sure what you saw was just a pop up ad trying to sell spyware protection. I wouldn't worry about it trying to destroy your computer. I have pop up blocker on so I didn't know they had pop ups. They shouldn't have those stupid pop up ads there though. |

Cool Vids Matski. It's weird how the ranking works. All your videos are equally good I think but code zero has a much higher ranking than the others. I hope I get a 3. I am up to 2.83 now which is pretty good since I started at 2.13. I just hope people like my little video. |

Yeah, MetaCafe seems to have higher standards as to what a "good" video is. For example, my 20th Century Kid video gets 5/5 ratings in most places, but at MetaCafe, it only has a 3.15 (and it started off with a 1.8!). I think that the website gives it a starting rating, then the users cast their votes to bring up/down. |

In case I didn't already state this, to get the money your video needs to have at least 20,000 views and a rating of 3.0 or higher. I think they send it to your house as a check.... |

What I mean is, your video earns cash from day 1 (1000 views = $100.00), but you don't receive the cash till MetaCafe gives their approval (which requires 20,000 views + a rating of 3.0 or higher).
Should be easy to get the rating. The hard part is the 20,000 views. I'll bet that if you post links all over the net, 20,000 people will click on it eventually.;)

the rate is 5 dollars per 1000 views.
Yeah I made the game with fps creator but with my own custom content for the frogs and textures and everything. I didn't model that cool gun though. |

lol. It's still a "money making scheme." It's just going to take more time/effort than I thought. It's almost certain that I'll (and hopefully yourselves) will get at least $100.00:D |

OK. Here's one strategy that will definately boost your rating:
1. Go to Gmail.com.
2. The user name is "truespaceforum" and the password is "caligari"
3. DON'T CHANGE THE PASSWORD!!!!
4. Copy the email address in the top-right corner, paste it into the "invite a friend" box, and click on "Send Invite."
5. Refresh the browser and click on the new message.
6. Click on the link provided.
7. Create a new Gmail Account.
8. Delete all messages in the "truespaceforum" account, to keep it from cluttering up.
9. Go to MetaCafe.
10. Delete your cookies (IMPORTANT!)
11. Register a new account using the email address you just created.
12.Vote for yourself (and others)!!!
You can do this as many times as you like (the more times you do it, the higher your rating goes)!!!
IF YOU DO THIS MULTIPLE TIMES, DO NOT USE THE "truespaceforum" ACCOUNT TO CREATE MORE GMAIL ACCOUNTS! Gmail only allows you to create 50 accounts per user, so if you create more than one, do it with your own gmail account, and not with the one I provided!

My Demo video went above 3. That makes me just as happy as if I got 100 dollars. At least some people enjoy it. That's what really matters. My froggy shoot out is real low. I want to redo that game in the future anyway with better models and in darkbasic pro. I have other things to do first though. |
