We decided to place a full time ad in SIGGRAPH issue of Computer Graphics World at the last minute. The idea is to raise awareness of TS7.5 in general 3D graphics community.

We need a killer image for the ad. It can be either off line V-Ray or LW rendering or a real time grab showing TS7.5 layout and UI.

Anyone can recomend an existing image or post a new one right here? This is a unique opportunity for TS7.5 artist to get his/her artwork displayed with full credit in one of the leading CG print publication, but we need an image by tomorrow to make the deadline.

This sounds like a great opportunity for someone. Any parameters for this, such as pixel size, format etc.

cheers

screen grabs should be around 1280x1024, offline renderings preferably same or more but they do not have to be 3000 pix wide.

You would be totally welcome to use any of my pictures from the Gallery if you consider them 'Killer' enough - the winner of the March Gallery springs to mind.

Failing that, this image recently won a first prize at 3dcommune and has been added to more peoples Renderosity favourites lists than anything else I've done so obviously it's not completely new.

I have it in bigger format if required (2560x2048) and is 100% trueSpace.

I am at work right now Roman and not sure that my images fall into that 'killer' category but you are welcome to anything I have posted here or in the beta forum...:D

To be honest a lot of thought needs to be put into the selected image and should not be selected lightly. I belong to a lot of forums in the general 3D community and have read a lot of bad publicity about trueSpace over the years. Now I would like to see this turned around but if the selected image is not of "extreme quality" for lack of better words it will hurt more then it will help. The image should also convey provocative thoughts like how did this app do that and wow I didn't know trueSpace could do that kind of stuff. The only problem I see is an image of this quality would take quite some time to make and it seems like you guys don't have a lot of time to wait.

Thank you Roman for the opportunity you've given us all with this.

While I'm certainly not known for my great renders I decided to take a stab at this anyway. I created these models (even the Makehuman woman) specifically for this challenge and I hope you like what came of it all.

Below is my entry in an 800x600 Vray render reduced 10% and saved as a jpeg for the Forums here. If you like I'll create a larger render, just let me know here or by e-mail if so.

Glad to hear you're doing this, the more TS7.51 exposure the better. :)

Im agree with Grim.. And here we enter in a problem..

Roman, for who must be a killer render??

Maybe our most awared user Digitaly Dali be the right person to bring a render..

No want to say theres no other talent here.. but if anybody enter on Caligary website on the month gallery can find about 10 Renders from DD.

Digitaly Dali represent the caligary vision, i dont think my golf ball with the caligari logo or a dragon spitting fire with the caligari logo on the chest represent the look of caligari website..

Just a marketing thought...

it´s all a question of taste.

I saw many many month winner entrys that suxx. (this is my personal taste and on this way subjective) ;)

Roman could post what he want.

Real or surreal, fantasy or technic, architecture or character ...

3dvisuals dude post a Image and i see a lot of Truespace adevertising in the rendering ! TOOOOO MUCH.

Prodigy ! you have no idea who else is a good 3d artist ?

An awful lot to ask. What's the deadline?

What would you be looking to convey in such an image? Artistic vision, modelling quality, rendering quality?

I could be up all night.

Great opportunity, and you're welcome to use anything of mine.

Good for 3dvisuals dude! I was going to suggest an object or scene branching out of the interface, like 3dvisuals dude's piece of the woman leaping out of the laptop with tS on the screen. I don't know if that is the right image to use, but I think that is the concept to go for.

Thanks Jeff,

I'm no artist by any stretch of the imagination but you definitely "got" the point I was trying to convey with that entry so I guess I'm getting better anyway!:o

The trueSpace7.51 interface on the one hand is our window into a program which now brings our models to life in a sense with rigging and animation, and on the other hand like the TS7 Developers Guide goes into quite a bit, we ourselves are actually an integral part of the 3D Context of trueSpace now, not merely observers. Kind of a Zen thing.

Glad you liked it, it probably won't win but I liked it too for the same reason.

The more I read this, the more I realise what a strange request it actually is.

Images submitted to the gallery become the 'property' of Caligari to use in promo stuff even though we retain copyright etc.
Surely if anyone had work that 'good' they would have posted it by now. If nothing so far submitted over the years is suitable I would have thought it almost impossible to get something 'new' by today's deadline.
As for the Digital Dali suggestion, great artist but I would sum up his work as 'surreal digital art'. Is that appropriate for this ad? Would it alienate architects and character designers?
Bottom line, people's work is idiosyncratic and individual. Only Caligari can know what piece would fit this ad and they would need to look through existing work then request a larger copy or maybe a re-render.
As a designer, I really have no idea what the brief is here and what the ad is trying to say. I also worry that such an 'important' ad in a major publication for Siggraph would need a little more care and thought put into it.

Just for reference, here is an image used by Caligari for Gamespace. Not a great image or render...no real technical skills but it conveys the message very well and was simply a WIP Tom asked if he could use.

I just think the way this was approached was a bit of a 'fools errand'...:o

If realtime renders are a part of the result maybe you could get SteveBe to do a full screen capture of his hairy spider thing from SMC #14. I think that one rocks and shows off some of the new capabilities.

http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=3226&page=2

Realtime captures are probably best for an inset though... insufficient resolution for a full page ad I would think.

Ya, I agree that it should probably show the hair tool somewhere, because that's a main new tool in TS 7.5. I don't think the hairy spider would do, though.... It does look really cool, but I think if anything, since it's TS 7.5, and the new thing for that is VRay 1.5, we should show that off, too. Maybe a VRay render of the spider? Idk how that would look though... I just think it should show many, if not all of the new TS 7.5 features. I don't have anything "killer" to submit, so I apologize for that.... I'm still learning...

If you wanted "Killer" Graphics the request should have been weeks ago. I envision more than one person working on a project in real time on an awesome scene. THAT would show off TS 7.51!

If it was a Project I had create I would have a 3d Princess kissing a 3D Frog with Architectural Buildings for the background.

Pretty cool, the quality of the render is kinda low, though, is that just so it could fit in the forums?

It doesn't look bad, the shadow isn't very smooth, though... The glow effect looks good, but you can see the "rings" of different color, if you know what I mean... It's not a smooth glow. I don't know if there's an easy way to change that or not, but those were just two problems that I saw...

Ya, the deadline was two days ago; I wonder what happened?

Roman, I would have to ask you, what are you offering the public that other applications don't. Focus on that rather than pretty pictures. There is a lot of good competition out there, for example modo which cost less than TS with Vray.

Is it the interface, ease of use? You have to find first what makes your product different than others and then focus on that part.

Just my 2cents.

Modo costs the same as TS plus Vray (and is usually a lot more expensive), and doesn't have animation tools. I didn't take to modo, but it's got a nice renderer. Unfortunately for luxology, though, Vray has the killer reputation at the moment.

I think I'll refrain from giving marketing advice to a company that's been in the business for twenty years, but I do think that highlighting the animation side of TS wouldn't hurt.

It can be called marketing advice or not, all I was saying is that finally TS has become a good application. I have not used it but I have witnessed its evolution. My point was not to teach caligari how to market. I wish caligari had done this long time ago, the amount of reviews on version 7 is very small compared to the older versions of TS.

I wasn't having a go at you, I was just pointing out that Modo isn't really cheaper than TS from what I can see. I totally support your point that Caligari should try to promote they're software creatively, which is why i added my 2c about the animation.

The marketing jibe wasn't directed at you, I was just trying to be humble. Sorry if that's how it came across.:o

It is disappointing that TS doesn't seem to have as much buzz around it these days, but the 3d market has been consolidating for some time and it seems to be tougher for the smaller guys to get noticed.

I disagree that TS has finally become a good app. I've been trying out 6.6 and it's great. I regret listening to the naysayers and not buying it sooner. :)
