Ok, pros were very true (maybe they should have put price under pros??), cons were kinda weird... What the heck is a "fairly steep 'unlearning' curve"? I don't even think "unlearning" is a word! Okay, the Mac support I can understand, but I thought it did have Mac support.... And the VRay thing is more a pro than a con....
4/5 stars is good right?

i think what they're getting at is that truespace is different from the big name packages i.e. you have to find other ways of doing things in truespace. Not having used maya, 3d max or XSI i don't know how much it differs. A lot of reviews seem to focus on the v ray thing but when you look at the 'optional' renders for Max, cinema 4D and others they are well more expensive, do they moan about them too? |

In the opinion of the author, paying half the VRay price for the features provided is not a good deal. That's why they listed that as a Con. At least, that's my impression.
Unlearning in this case means that the truespace GUI is much different from several other applications, which apparently all have a more standardized interface.
Quite honestly if I had to learn another app I too would have to ... "Unlearn" what I have learned with truespace.
My response to that review comment is, "What-Ever." Because that's always part of the job. If you switch to, or incorporate, some other app into your daily work, you have to learn how to use it before you get productive anyway.
Later!

4 out of 5 is a fair score, only because it is an app in transition, not for the reasons they mentioned. I have used a few 3d apps and I find truespace one of the easiest to learn and use. I agree the price of vray should not be a con. It is a fair price for the renderer. It's not like you don't have other rendering options. |

I was reading over my post and it kinda sounded like I was mad, which I wasn't at all, I just thought it was funny what they said :p
I do think VRay is expensive, but I was looking at the reviews for other programs, and Vray looked like it was a lot more expensive there (I may have misread it, though; everything's in euros, which is the first thing that confused me) than it is for TrueSpace.
I can't say for sure because I'm not experienced in any other 3d app other than TrueSpace, but TS seems like it's the easiest to use out of any other. I've played around with Blender a couple of times, and just small simple things that are different can increase your work time (ex.: in Blender you click "Insert"->"Object"->"Cube" instead of just clicking on the icon in TrueSpace).
I do agree that TrueSpace seems different from every other program, but if they were all the same, there would be no competition.

TS IS different and that's why I bought it! I tried the others and a math degree requirement didn't sit well with me. I tested TS as an Artist not a Mathematician. To go to the next level of functionality would require moving to a more robust application but that's not in my future. I'm actually glad of that fact.
I have all the time in the world putting TS through it's paces. We need people to start pushing the envelope and try to get more out of it. It shouldn't just be making our lives easier but also our renderings better. |

Well Lucky You! Must be nice to have all that free time to play :p

Robust ... is a nice little word ... did not hear that in any of the tests
Thats certainly something to look out for.... not just the price of a renderer
and the UI .
Big differences I tell you :o |

Apparently mine too.;)
I think we're all adult enough to not let what one person thinks sway our judgment on tS. For me it's more like stubbornness, the more people say it is incapable(I've said it myself)the more I use it. It is, in fact, part of the fun. |

This is a "contradictio in se"
;)
One person ...... the more people
Nobody here said that TS was incapable.... Steinie didn´t and I didn´t!!!
There should be a lot more that keeps you with TS then stubborness....
We were talking about robustness and that has very much to
do with people using it frequently. It needs 2 sides. One side that finds
the problems and one side that takes actions. If we say everything is
ok and it isn´t your not going to make TS better. If you dont report
bugs ... if you dont voice what you dislike how should a company know.
I voice what a like about it here too!I wouldnt be here if I disliked everything
and that includes talking to people I very much like. |
