It's taking upwards of 10-15 seconds for the ME to redraw whenever I:

1) use the inspect tool to select a material from an object

2) switching between the main tabs (library, panels, settings)

3) I use the Paint object, face, or material tools

4) Whenever I do ANYTHING that switching between the sidebar and the Workspace viewport

Does it REALLY need to reinitialize & redraw it's interface EVERY TIME? When I pull the ME off of the sidebar to float, do new updates (using the inspect tool, for example) REALLY need to create new ME interfaces in the sidebar, even though I've already pulled it off (currently it closes the floaters and re-opens them in the sidebar)? On top of that, why can't I float the entire ME interface, including the shaders (color, reflectance, etc.) as one floating window, not half a dozen of them?

Is anyone else having these problems? Even on an extremely high-end machine w/ an equally high-end video card and gobs of memory?

I'd love answers to at least some of these questions.

Are you in the Workspace or Model tab while using the inspect tool, etc.?

I'm sure he is talking about workSpace, same delay here also. Maybe it's the Bridge?

Ya, the bridge kills me in everything...

And it could also be what materials you're using.

I did have some problems similar to this in TrueSpace 6.6 and 5.2, so I'm not sure that it is workspace....

It could be though...

It's not the bridge. The material editor does it even if the bridge is off. I think it's because Vray is rendering a relatively high res preview material for EVERY element in a group that the new material is applied to. :((((((((( Also VRay renders a preview in the ME panel as well every time you change a value. You'll really notice it if you use an SSS shader.

Don't use Workspace side to apply a material to a group unless you want to go out for dinner and hope it's done when you come back. I've had it take as much as 10-15 minutes.

Sorry have no answers just additions :D

...the ME is just one aspect of the insane slow "new" UI and why I'm so upset to use ts7.
The whole refresh is slow and sometimes totally useless.
If you are in Library or Panel mode (in panel mode only if you haven't select a panel) it's OK but as soon as you stay in Settings mode the switching and popping up windows become crazy.

Selecting LE -> windows for LE popup in settings panel. Selecting 3d window -> windows for 3d popup in settings panel (and both very slowly).
And finally do that very quick -> select 3d- select LE- select 3d- select LE.
Funny thinks happen. More as one window of the same kind will open, not to speak about the flashing icons in the whole program.
The LE+3d window combo is another thing. LE the only way to see a structure of your scene built yet, is slow if you have a 3d window open and select parts of the scene. Encapsulating/merging is slow too.

Take a look over the edge, for example to the new SILO2 UI. No flashing, fast response, perfect!
The window detaching is solved clever, no need for breaking the fingers with a ctrl-drag and the whole workflow makes fun to work with and here it begins.
If I open a software and see how fast I can open/close windows and settings, popup and close, I feel comfortable.
Something I don't feel in ts7. Even ts6 ui is faster to work with.

I think the 6.6 side(model) actually feels faster than old 6.6?????why??? maybe it's the comparison between it and slowspace. I'm still fond of 7.5x, but we do need some more updates, If you watch my new video's(out today, later)the last video gets a little slow due to the polycount with sds applied(you cannot model that way).
