Hey folks. Who's going?

If you've never been, it's a total blast. Make sure you plan for at least a full day because there is a LOT to see! So many demos, so many new products, lots of synopses of papers presented in galleries, etc. etc. etc.

IF I go back to university to get a Ph.D I will focus on 3D Graphics technologies. That's where I want to go! :jumpy:

I went last year to Boston Siggraph but can't afford the trip all the way across country this year to cali. Hash paid for my hotel and meals last year since I did a demo. Man I had a great time. Wish I could go again this year. So many cool things. The hash booth was near the truespace booth last year so I saw the truespace booth. I wonder if that bearded guy there was Roman, I don't think so though. I wish I looked closer at the truespace booth and the new things going on with it. I may have bought it then.

So maybe I will be there next year :)

Wish I could go. It'd be a blast. Exactly the kind of things I enjoy with lots of technical presentations and such.

[GeekMode=ON]

Most of you guys would go to see the new tools and artistic talent, and I'd also go for the 3D math classes and rendering equations. I know... I'm sick, Sick, SICK! Sorry. I'm an engineer. I can't help it. :D

[GeekMode=OFF] (as if this could even be done)

That was Roman. Heck, I may have walked right past you!

Now that would be The ULTIMATE prize: a paid trip to siggraph!

Copy that, PK. I'm an engineer (software / systems integration & test) too! New graphics algorithms and equations are sexy! :)

Uhm, me three... If I ever go, it will be because of technical workshops, etc. Btw, the SIGGRAPH proceedings books are better than any drug out there. ;)

My parents would never let me....:(

I've never been to California... The furthest west I've been is Minnesota (but I'm going to Alaska at the end of this month, so that'll change!).

The tall lanky guy would have been Roman, the short guy was TomG... there probably were guest appearances from NOKO and Humdinger during the event. As I recall, both of them were there at different times during the week. This is just info I read here on the forums. I was not there either.

I might take a trip out to Cali... haven't really thought about it much. There are a tone of places I want to get some photography from in the western part of the country. It would be a great excuse to just do it!

Thanks for the link Steinie. That guy with Roman smiling in the pic with blue shirt and bearded face is Ken Baer of Hash Inc. He was my hotel roomie. Him and another staffer had the beds. I had a blanket, a pillow, and a floor lol. Hey I aint complaining, they treated me good. It's cool Hash and Caligari are friends. They are both cool companies that have loyal followings and incredible staying power, Both been around since the 80's.

LOL - It's cool to see so many guys at one with their geekness! We should all embrace our inner geeks - group hug anyone?

PS, anyone driving to siggraph past my place who could pick me up? I'm only on the far side of the Pacific! :D

Last year we had some great coverage by Humdinger and Noko of the SigGraph in Boston. I remember pictures, movies, even an animation reworked with Roman's voice! Can you guys give us the same updates this year?

San Diego is a great City and I wish I could go. Posting updates here would make us feel like we're part of it.

How about a live feed with a webcam? Maybe a night we all get together online to talk about it?

Although I don't agree with this last statement, I still remember it!

...On the right coast!

I'll be in San Diego the week before, if Caligari is going to Siggraph I may have to stay over (last event for me was Siggraph 2K)!

The one and only time I was there was in 2001, and it's a shame that was one of the years Caligari was absent. I was stuck working the HP booth (and I didn't even work for HP!) so I missed out on a lot of stuff, but the atmosphere is great.

I'd like to know if the.. uh.. "marketing by audio volume" technique has left NewTek and gone on to Luxology with Brad Peebler ;)

Hi all,

Just so everyone knows, we currently have no plans to be at SIGGRAPH this year, at least not at the moment. That will save any disappointment if anyone is hoping to see us there, or hoping to see videos and pics like last year.

Primarily it's a matter of our priorities are focused on more development still at the moment, and it takes a lot of time out to do something like SIGGRAPH (even when it is as close by as it is this year), and we just don't want to shift our focus away from the development work we are doing.

Of course SIGGRAPH will still be a lot of fun to attend for anyone who plans on going! Send us in updates, at least on the forums here so we can see how it all goes :)

Believe it or not, I think that is a wise decision. How often have you sold something to a customer because of siggraph? Not only that, but it could be quite expensive. Doing it for tS7.0 was good, because it needed some coverage, now people know about it, lets move on and develop this software further and sell to the customer profanity the industry!
