Reminds me of Starfox ;)
Ambitious project but looks like fun.
Have you tried Nowherebrain's modeling tutorial videos?

lol where to begin?! heh, no tutorial as far as im aware will teach you how to make starfox. You need some front and side images of him to work off though, that would help. Good Luck Starfox is my favourite series of games (Lylat Wars Rocks!) |

That's the problem with converting stylized 2D to 3D, it's not always based on real world proportions or dimentions. So you'll have to be creative and re-interpret it into your own stylized 3D version of Starfox.
Something quickly you could try since his eye shape likely won't fit a sphere, might be to try a more egg shaped eyeball.
Edit: actually now that I look at it a sphere should work fine. *Shrug*

Here ya go Weevil,
2 hard to explain how to do this so I did it for you. If you want to get the solution check out the featureset of moi3d.com.
Here's the model zipped in cob format after an image of it.
Enjoy,

With this solution you would have a hard time animating his eyes. Based on just this one example suppled by Weevil I would create a larger diameter eyeball with a smaller iris. I've yet to find characters having out of round eyeballs. The bone structure over the eye socket is triangular in shape not the eyeball. |

Well, not perfectly round, the cornea does protrude a bit... but that's something different entirely ;) :p
Looking at the image provided I agree with Steinie. He has very big eye balls with the bone structure coming around much of the top of the eye making it look smaller than it is.

I am in a good mood so you can have these if it helps.
Iris is inverted into the eyeball and there is a second sphere for the glossy part of the eye that has a rounded front. |
