It's Thursday again so lets chat. The chat time is 7 pst or 10 est. I'll be on Truespace 7.51 server in the thursday night chat shared space.
See ya there! |

I'm going to try this again, and if it doesn't work on the desktop, I'll go through my laptop. I will get on tonight (unfortunately probably not for too long, though...)!!

You must have just missed me and 3dfrog then. He had to go and I went to find other folk (with no success) in the other truePlaces via both 7.51's server and afterward the truePlay truePlaces portal.
Anyhow, when I got there 3dfrog and Norm and Stan were there playing with an electrostatic device... I missed most of that but it did look fascinating hanging there in mid-air with iron filings stuck to it like feathers!
Then Stan left and 3dfrog made what Norm and I thought was a frog at first, but he turned it into a flying alien spaceship of sorts before our eyes as we watched!
Then I tried loading custom made DX9 shaders into the scene and much to my surprise it worked fine even with textures only available on my system.
Anyhow, I couldn't find anyone to pull back in there so maybe Norm fell asleep... we both had voice on and as I recall he did sound a tad tired.
Maybe we'll catch you there next time a little earlier then, but with my schedule I never know whether I'll be able to make it in there myself at any given time!

same here about the schedule. I'll have to try having voice on, but I need to connect a microphone first.
Now that's what the trueplace chat is all about! Collaborative Experimentation.

I would suggest that no reason to start the meeting earlier if folks wish to show up. It could start earlier and go later depending on who shows up and when. Perhaps in future we just call it the Thursday meeting and it would not have a specified time.
Is always hard to schedule a time so I say we relax the time and just encourage folks to visit the space whenever they desire.
It was kind of cool last night with some interesting items being created. |

Hi Norm,
Sorry I didn't end up returning there after I left, I spent about 40 minutes hunting around looking for other users in truePlaces using both the 7.51 and truePlay servers with no luck... even crashed trueSpace a couple of times somehow in the process of all that hopping around!
It was cool to actually see 3dfrog modeling in realtime there, and I would like to have seen the whole process of you and Stan playing with that electrostatic device with the "feathers" on it but I got there too late for that!
I think that's a great idea you have about relaxing the timeframe for the Thursday night chat to "The Thursday Meeting" instead. It would probably give a lot more folks outside of the US and Canada a better chance to meet up with others in there at more convenient times for their timezones.

That's great!
It'll be nice for folks to meet and hear the man behind the vision, we're all part of it now with TS7.51 and truePlay1.3, and we've got lots of great days ahead indeed thanks to Team Caligari.
I'm very glad he's managed to find the time to do this with us all, it'll be a good thing for all of us no doubt.
Next time somebody tries to boast about competitors, just ask them when the last time was that the CEO of that company took the time to chat with them live in an immersive virtual environment!:D
There is no real competition, and that's becoming clearer to everyone every day now.

Questions, questions....
I used to go to Thursday Night Meetings as did many others here (including Roman). Every week Norm or someone else (limited by who had rights) could bring something they made to demo. Then one day no one from Caligari showed up and a bunch of Visiting Avatars were standing there with nothing to do. Later TomG tells us it was NOT a Caligari sponsored event. The whole thing died. So 3Dfrog shows up with only 2 or 3 people that is why.
Is this a Caligari Event or Deja Vue?
Do we use TS 7.51 or do we use truePlay 1.3 when we go?
The link for the Thursday Night Event takes us to a choice of truePlaces but the Thursday Night truePlace isn't listed. Which truePlace should we go to?
Should be fun, see you all there.
Edit:
Fourth Question, was the sound fixed in 1.3 ? Roman had a horrible echo when he talked last time. I know it was planned for fix in truePlay 2.0... |

Yeah it's great that Roman will show up and chat again like in the beginning. I really did like the Thursday chat WAY better when we could log in with trueSpace instead of truePlay though. Just hanging out and talking can be fun, but it's MUCH more fun and immersive when you can actually do things together too. Then you have more to talk about. I loved seeing the little scripts Norm came up with every week and I enjoyed sharing some of mine too. With trueSpace people can actually share tools and ideas and learn from each other, which I think is what most of us here enjoy doing most. I really think the true spirit of "Thursday Night Chat" lies in the ability to actually DO things together and share stuff.
That's why I stopped going anyway. It's fun to chat with the great people on the forums here, but it's so much more fun to hang out with trueSpace, where we can actually interact and share tools, objects, as well as ideas.
I really hope Caligari will bring back the true Thursday night chats again and create a space that we can log into with trueSpace. |

hopefully this new thursday night meetings plan won't die out like before as Steinie pointed out..:p |

yeah, its a bit odd that, in the captains blog it says the update would be trueplay 2, this is 1.3, so there might be another one soon. |

Hi guys,
I think what's happened here with the unexpected rollout of truePlay 1.3 in advance of the expected rollout of truePlay 2 is that the Caligari Devs (who'm I had been informed earlier by Norm and TomG in two different threads here were working on the issue) solved the problem truePlay 1.21 was having which prevented us all from using truePlay 1.21 to open TS7.5x Rsscn files which we were told (in Caligari Web promos) before purchasing TS7.5x would be possible, enabling us to create immersive and interactive scenes with TS7.5x which could then be explored by others offline via truePlay.
This is a very vital feature of trueSpace for a few people here, and was in fact a primary motivating factor for some of us to purchase TS7.5x, so fixing that quickly was something I'm sure Roman was focused on doing for us all, and as soon as it was fixed he rolled out that unscheduled fix in the form of truePlay 1.3 immediately for all of us.
Now we will all be able to create immersive and interactive scenes with TS7.5x, save them to CD or place the files on our webpages and link to them (and to the free truePlay 1.3 player) for others to explore who don't have trueSpace at all.
Not being able to do this previously with truePlay 1.21 has held us all back from developing this wonderful new potential of trueSpace for too long, a fact I have no doubt Roman was very conscious of.
When truePlay 2 arrives I suspect you will see a great many other planned features which have been mentioned here previously for that, such as the ability to select (or perhaps even upload) Avatars from a menu and the ability to determine who else is online with you in truePlaces and where they are.

EDIT: Roman just posted a message regarding truePlay 1.3 and truePlay 2 in the Captains Blog. |

Hi all,
The link to the Thursday Night Live will be added to the truePlaces page (which is why the link is in the email to send you there). It's not there yet, but it will be on there this week in advance of the Thursday night event :)
You can log in with either tS7.51 or tP1.3, up to you.
HTH!

Thanks Tom, info appreciated.
Steinie raised a very important point earlier here for everyone to consider before meeting next Thursday, the echoing which occured at the TS7.5 rollout party.
I wasn't there but from what I've read on the way VOIP works in there, if anyone has their speakers on while they have Voice enabled it will cause that specific effect, and presumably if several have their speakers on it will cause total echo mahem in there, which could well be exactly what happened before.
To use the Voice option please use a headset or just don't use voice, that may prevent the issue from arising again. A headset of course is advised, but even without one everyone can see what you type and can respond by typing, all they need to do is turn of Voice temporarily to type you a response.

Hi Délé,
As of 7:00AM MST Thursday as I'm posting this it appears you are correct, although they may change that.
I just logged in there via Caligari's new website link using truePlay1.3, looked around, closed truePlay and opened trueSpace 7.51 and used the Connect to Shared Space icon...
The rooms look similar but they are not identical and content is similar but also not identical.
Two different Servers at the moment apparently.
I have no idea how to "change the server name and port to log in with tS?" as you asked above, and I'll bet a few other folk here don't know that procedure as well, so this may get pretty confusing at crunchtime tonight, assuming they don't change that in the meantime.

Hmm, no, both tS and tS7.5 should now be going to the same server, as far as I know. I'll have a look into it and report back.
Thanks!

I just logged in with both and I'm seeing more objects with trueSpace then I am with truePlay. I'm not sure if it's a different server or if I'm just seeing more with trueSpace that isn't visible with truePlay for some reason.
As a side note, that scene was really bogging down for me with tP. Perhaps there is too much geometry in there or perhaps there's a material that's causing it to slow down. I'd recommend cleaning that up a bit before the meeting to reduce problems. |

Yeah, there definitely is a difference between the content of each room.
Regarding that lag, it was due in part (if not entirely) to a ~HUGE~ DX9 Modded texture I put on a sphere in the portal accessable via trueSpace7.51. I was testing DX9 textures in there on a previous Thursday night meeting and forgot to delete it. I just deleted it from the TS7.51 meetingroom though, which should solve the problem in that version of the meetingroom anyway!
Try it now, should be fine there.
Not sure how to delete it from the other portal's meetingroom though.
EDIT: Deleting it in the first case deleted it in the second case as well. I should mention though that the shape of that sphere had been altered (prior to deletion) in the truePlay portal but appeared not to have been in the trueSpace portal.

OK... this is also strange...
I figured it could be a matter of texture types that was the only difference between whether something could be seen via trueSpace and not truePlay, so I tested that theory by placing a new small sphere in the trueSpace 7.51 meetingroom with a basic Caligari blue metal DX9 texture. Then I went to the truePlay 1.3 Meetingroom, where it doesn't even exist!
- 3dvisuals dude
EDIT:
Update... just tried truePlay portal where Norm was, he had apparently been deleting a lot of stuff in there but not everything. Then I popped into the meetingroom via TS7.51 where everything still exists and Norm isn't there.
Definitely two different servers it seems. |

When it comes to truePlay1.3, user has no choice on which server is used. This is not the case for trueSpace7.51.
Here in this first image (for those using trueSpace7.51), the Link Editor is set to see inside the "System" area. You have to navigate via the orange corner of the "2D" button up a few levels from your default view area. Once you get into the System area, you see that I highlighted the "Network" object.
7883
Here the second image shows inside the "Network" object in Link Editor. Here is where you can manually check which server you are on. It is possible that instead of tpportal.caligari.com, you may have tsportal.caligari.com.
7884
To match the server that truePlay1.3 users are using, change/edit the server to show tpportal.caligari.com. Now by default, port 1109 represents the main forum area where everyone connects by default. On the "dzignr" object, it shows the port as being 1111, which represents the Meeting room address. You can set port if you like, but the server address is the key element in the scenario. Once you are hooked up to go to correct server, you can use the Link Bar to access the Meeting room.
Now there are only two servers at moment and both have relatively the same setup, which is why things look similar but not the same. Paul, who works very hard to keep things organized on the servers, does his best to keep them the same but this is not always going to be the case. This is because folks can visit and collaborate on either server and change objects and such. The only true way to tell where you are is via the Network object's server address.
Once you are familiar with this and how to change the server, you will be able to tell where you are and if you are in the right area for the meeting.
Hope is helpful :) |
