I was just scrolling down in the main forum page, and I saw that there were 316 users online 5 days ago!
Did I miss something?:confused:

Search bots and/or spam bots, most likely. Judging from a couple other forums I frequent, there's a new one out that's a little haywire. (The "user counts" on most forums count guests and registered users...) |

You missed something 60 Years ago (July 1947)..... there was this ONE user in
Rosswell .......they say he was all green.....he must have come here
with his friends five days ago ......... (they always come back)

Ha, ya, it was probably spy bots and guests; not too exctiting...
What are the spy bot things anyway?

Search bots (not spy bots, though I suppose you could call them that, but their purpose isn't usually sinister) are automated programs used by Google, Yahoo, and every other search engine that traverse the web, and which go through a website indexing every page. For some reason, on many forums, many of them leave a "trail" that resembles multiple users -- i.e., it visits the index page, then the Roundtable page, then the page for this thread, but the board reads it as three separate visitors. Since it goes through every page it can, this quickly adds up to a lot of "guests" who aren't even really guests. |
