LOL!!!
Follow your dreams Jason... they are finally taking you places my friend.:D
Thanks go out to all who contributed the great content of the Haunted House Scene, especially to Jayr, who made that awesome building we all had so much fun exploring last night. Well done guys.:)
And thanks Roman... we always keep trying to make every week's meeting better than the one before and it's a very nice thing to be recognized for all the effort we put in. I'm sure I speak for all the Tuesday Night Folks when I say that one of the greatest pleasures for each of us on Tuesday Nights is when you are right there along with the rest of us having fun together in shared space. These early days of shared space development are very precious to us all, and we all know the future is very bright for us thanks to you Sir, thank you.:)

cool well hey, there's folks in there now! At least they were about 15 minutes or so ago! We gotta do this again next year!
Edit:
Fixed jscript error. removed timer for light which caused issue, and commented out code which referenced timer.

That's why gawd invented anoraks, you great tartan lump!
Oh-no-wait-anoraks were invented so that train spotters would have something cozy and fashionable to wear!
Hehe I had to wear my wooly simmit (vest) and drawers it wuz windy and the RAF supplied the light show whilst practicing low level flying over my house, it was rather spectacular. :D

I can't wait to see the sneak previews of 7.6 Roman is hinting at. I am eagerly awaiting 7.6. Especially vertex animation, facial morphs, and the bone stretch bug fix. It is very exciting. |

not sure if this is the right place to ask this, or if anyone will bw able to reply, but, When (if?) lightworks moves into the workspace will we be able to use all our old shaders? Stuff like shaderlab, UV Toon and the like? Or will it change completely? |

no way to tell right now jayr. Not sure if or when this will happen but it sure would be nice to have it, as opposed to having to pay for VRay if we can't afford it.

I'm sure i read that lightworks was 'crossing the bridge'. I really hope it is, it would seem silly for it not too, i was just wondering what i'll be like when it does, will it work like it does in 6.6/ model side? |

Well hey if you can find that post could you repost it here please? I'd love to see that! That would be nice. I am trying to spend as much time on the workspace side as possible.
Thanks,

I don't remember ever reading about Lightworks being brought over. There was a lot of assumptions being made by users but I don't recall anything official. Usually it's hush hush but this question really should be answered to let us know where we should head for our rendering engines. |

Nothing official yet. There was some discussion about long term tS plans being to remove the Modeler side and leave only the workspace, which prompted discussion on what happens about render engines when that situation arrives (if it arrives).
Of course all is speculation and conjecture at the moment, and there is nothing to say on what will happen, when it will happen, or how it will work when it happens. There are no plans though to remove the Modeler side until all functionality is over on the workspace, and until all questions like "What about the render engine when that happens!" are resolved, so there is no cause for alarm or concern :)
Unfortunately though nothing more useful can be said on that subject for now!
HTH!

That maybe where i got confused. When people use terms like 'all functionality' i took that to mean the render engine too. |

Dear Roman,
This was asked by someone else in another thread.
Is VRay getting worked on, upgraded, fixes etc. ?
I have noticed most of the Beta testers have been quite around here lately, is this because of finalization of code or pizza parties?
Is there ANYTHING in 7.6 that you CAN discuss which would peak our interest? |

Let me put it that way Steinie !
I would love to use Vray more often then I do now for renders because
its a fantastic render engine : Blindingly fast ! It only falls short
of being used so often because of lack of layered materials and
because lack of objects as lights (something that LW does for years).
Not to mentioned that I wouldnt mind getting an up to date LW !
Its sad to see that a comercial package like Vray gets less attention
then a free package like Kerky. |

If V-Ray did layers, I would use it more often too. It's sometimes a real bear to have to put a second transparent texture up there just to get a little extra grime. |

Kerkythea is definitely going extremely well. Once the networking gets easier, it's going to be hard to beat. The next upgrade to vray would have to be immense to match it. Even then, free networking in linux is compelling.
The open source 3d scene is really starting to kick butt. |

Well the newest captains blog is a doosie!!! Scares me a lot, but I will see. I guess the proof is in the pudding....pudding being 7.6/8.0 which I have been staving for a single piece of news on. Roman give me 7.6 news, save microstuff for the web page. |

Don't Worry NHB, i have the same question..
Take time to watch caligari home page.. and let's do a game..
How many time you find the word Collaboration and similar online words??
Now Render?
"Caligari Corp has become a wholly owned subsidiary of Microsoft Corporation.Specifically we will be working with the Virtual Earth team which is in the process of building out an immersive 3D Web experience"
This sound Scarry for me..
Were you can find something about Rendering? |

You want scarry? Roman said "Virtual Earth" 3 times in the latest blog and "trueSpace" zero times.
He didn't mention anything about continued support of trueSpace.
Roman mentions a "larger market to consider" which could mean software your grandmother could use. Doesn't sound innovative to me. When you work for the masses you tend to be vanilla. |

I think it might just end up with a glossy deep blue "Live" bar across the top of the page. |

Hmm, will Virtual Earth also be so unfinished and unuseable than TS 7.5?
Caligari hasn't learned to deliver bugfixes ever. How should Virtual Earth work then? The masses aren't this patient than us TS users, waiting years for a fix just to get even more bugs then. |

this may very well be the end for me, may stop using tS all together, a shame...a bit of pre-judgement on my behalf. We all know the Microsoft track record though. Ahhhhh this is killing me in the worst way.

If Microsoft own 100% of Caligari then it will be their vision that counts and not Romans.
I would speculate that it also means that they could 'release' the whole Caligari team and replace them with their own people... after a suitable honeymoon period of course and after the Caligari code has been examined and understood by Microsofts own dev team.
Gratz to Roman on making a mint, but he still sold out, which was his right and given the last few years of the TS7 debacle probably a good move. He still has his family to care for, put food on the table and a roof over their heads, fthe needs of ones family should always come first.
Personally, I have been using TS6.6 + Packs whilst waiting on more tools being implemented in TS7.5, but now I find myself holding back again and adopting a wait and see stance.
Only time will tell and although I bear no one at Caligari any ill will, I have to admit to feeling 'sold out' myself after all the hard earned cash I have put their way. But such is life and Truespace is only a product, one I have used happily for years and have been satisfied with until quite recently.
The future is uncertain at the moment and for those using TS Commercially more that a bit treacherous.
Does anyone know of a company that was bought out by Microsoft that has managed to keep its own identity and continue to follow its own path with its own people because I cant.
Cheers

I very much doubt that MS would do this for a long time, if ever. It's taken years to develop the rosetta core, I can't see the team being made obsolete in the short term.
I don't really see how this is selling out, as it seems a pretty good marriage of technologies to me. He's entitled to make money from his assets, as is anyone else. I am skeptical about the whole online 3d revolution deal, but Caligari has been marketing TS this way for a while.
The problem from my perspective is that this announcement has dropped a big load of wtf on the community, and the traditional guys especially are being made to sweat it out with no hints as to what is in store for them.
It's pretty poor form imo, but I think "sell-out" is unwarranted. |
