Well the logical way of inserting a picture would be rightclick on the field and a pulldown with insert picture AND reset

Or, dare I suggest <gasp>... a button?

The picture itself is a button already! If you click into it with the LMB

it doesnt do anything.. if you click with the RMB it shows "reset" there you could add insert picture.

I dont think it would be wise to add to many buttons.

Keeping the interface nice and tidy should be highest pricipal.

a consistant method would be better than the new helter skelter methods we now have for loading images..:(

ctrl + double click in some places.. others a 'file picker' which doesn't even show the file name when loaded..or its just called 'file' to stay consistant..

or a button with '...' on it..all leading to a file browser, what ever happened to an image browser, too passe  oh and the new bitmap libraries you can't get to while using the 'Panels' section without taking them out of the stack 'library' first.;)

You must see all this with a focus on what great job Caligari has done

with the physics engine and animation etc. Those are real small issues

that can be ironed out with time.

I cant wait until we would have a particle system with physics.......

Although I dont know if it would ever make it in ..... but just let me dream

;) :D

Forgive me for jumping back in here but I can't believe I just read that. Small issues that can be ironed out with time? Basic, everyday functionality is not a small issue and shouldn't need to be ironed out, it should be fixed before it goes out the door. Maybe it's some sort of in joke at HQ "ctrl double click, haha that'll get them", "yeah, but won't it be more fun if we make other things work a little differently too!"? Don't get me wrong, I love trueSpace, I've used it since SE, and I can see the progress that's being made but it frustrates me that a new milestone version has shipped with bizarre quirks that make it more frustrating to use than needs be when it shouldn't have happened. I don't like knocking tS, I genuinely care otherwise I wouldn't bother posting but I also get annoyed with the 'but look at this wonderful new bit instead' replys. Yeah, it's OK I can't use it for day to day stuff cleanly because I know it can do something else quite well instead.

Imagine it this way, you get a lovely new car but it's got no seats and the steering wheel works the other way to what you'd expect. You point it out to the sales guy but his response is, hmmm, we might fix the wheel and put seats in the next model but look at these beautiful new wheel trims, aren't they divine...

I think you misunderstand me this time !

I dont call these issues small because I feel they are unimportant !

On the contrary !

Small is just the time related to have those fixed .... compared to the

time taken up to build the whole animation part etc.

Yes they should have been adressed before !

Yet we've had a patch release and they weren't so either not so small in time or, and I hate to think this, no one bothered.

@Stan: I understand, but a lot of others are.(into animation) For caligari to remain competitive they need to focus on tools that not all of us are interested in. I have an interest in all the tools as I am planning on doing tutorials for all aspects at some point in time..

SHHHH, I think I hear Roman typing....isn't it time for another Captains blog update???

I guess I was correct. Not much in the way of news though(thanks all the same Roman), I think he's holding back the big news for later. I know he doesn't want to dissapoint us so that's ok.

Maybe it's some sort of in joke at HQ "ctrl double click, haha that'll get them",I should have answered this one sooner. It is quite unacceptable to CTRL double click just to open a an image, rest assured that we are not laughing here. This will be fixed ASAP as will the other workflow items, hopfuly in TS7.6. I forwarded your post to our developers and we discussed it since. Please post any such issues here, we will add them to our TS7.6 todo list.

Roman ! You asked us if we feel a speed increase with the new version

of Vray ... well I am doing some shader tests to find out what shaders

and multi-pass ...multi shader setups to render diamonds. All I can say is

it feels pretty fast now.Compared to the last version... it feels a significant

boost. When I compare it to some other renderers I´´ve got it very much is

one of the fastest now (with caustics + GI + fresnel shader +Hdri etc.)

I had VUE 6 Inf run 3 days on a 1000pix x 1600 pix picture with

this kind of setup.(I know its abusing a landscape renderer doing products work ;)

So that is some important news. Keep up looking for speed increases its worth

it !;) :D

Thank you, I can't tell you how good it is to hear that. I was horribly concerned the current irritating quirks (especially the icon/tool selection issues) were to become the 'new way'. Now I know they're to be addressed I'll wait and see if the pleasure to use factor will be reinstalled.

Thank you very much for fixing this issue for us!

What workflow is concerned there is one thing that I find most

disturbing (maybe I´m missing something and could find a way

myself ..but I tried Ctrl right click and Mousebuttons doesnt work )

Could you please as an option add standard navigation with

alt + LMB for panning and alt + MMB for moving (left right up down )

and alt + RMB for zooming in and out.

Or even full customisation...

Some of us ...me included.. are just used to that way of navigation.....

Or maybe I have missed something in the link editor and someone could

shed light on that issue.

Hi Rayman,

ALT+LMB is already implemented for Panning in UVE. :)

A very important consideration for laptop users that only have 2 buttons. ;)

-Jack.

And alt + rightclick brings up the old control station (in model)!

How often are they used to what we need standard navigation..... ?

They could have a different key !

If you want to draw new users to TS...... and people coming

from other big packages the standard minimal features should

be implemented in TS too !;)

Those with a laptop dont have to use it as this should be optional.

How many people do 3d with a two button laptop.

A mouse for the laptop doesnt cost the world .

I have a mouse for my laptop even for making word documents´

Plus! The people that use space navigators could use the same keys they use from other aps !

I feel the same way. You can download a Maya style navigation for trueSpace7.5 from my website.

http://home.mindspring.com/~clintonr/MyTruespace/misc.htm

Just load into link editor and push the button.

Thank you very much this is what I was looking for.

Actualy it should be a part of Truespace as it is no more " Maya style "

Its the most common way of navigation . Even renderengines like

Maxwell "studio" use it nowadays. Most of us users who use other

aps are used to it.

So thanks again this is more then usefull !!!!:)

No, it is not the most common...it is "maya" style. You can set up other apps to use "Maya" style..Silo is similar and you can configure "maya" style....did I mention "Maya" style yet..

"Maya" style!

Did I mention you set the exclamation marks wrong !!!

....... and you "can" configure Maya style ....... hehehehe:D

I can tell you I´m so happy I got that "plug" from clintoman... i just

cant tell you:) HE MADE MY DAY!:)

Did I mention that I set all my aps to "Maya " style hehehe:D

Did I mention that I would miss my steering wheel in my car !

An app that has full customisation should be able to have customisable

mousebuttons!

Like you said silo "can" be set to Maya style ... I think its the default there

isnt it .... Wings "can be set to Maya style its not default there.

Yes and its default in cinema 4d ... and Maxwell "studio"......

I found Maya very difficult/impossible to use on a 2 button laptop. Whereas with TrueSpace and 3dsMax I've not had that problem. When on the go or working away from a desk, it's generally not convenient to hook up a USB mouse, so this is a consideration.

This should all just be an option ... as clintonmans plug does not

take away any capabilities it just adds to them .That plug is all I wanted in the first place ...... I just said that it would not be bad to add mousebutton

customizabilty to the features ..... Caligari says Ts is fully customisable-so it should be added and nothing taken away.Just a further option.

And Stienie : They must have ripped many peoples heart..... Caligari does

make great efforts to be used by people who now use C4d or Maya

or whatever uses that way of navigation. It could be a "factor" why people

dont want to use TS. Other companies have compatibility modes as well (and that sometimes even includes color shemes ).

Kicking the dirt off the thread here....

I haven't heard any news regarding 7.6 for quite a while...anyone have any thoughts??

I'm hoping for the cloth and other dynamics, as well as, better skealaton/rigging tools(multiple skelatons per mesh)...and of course edge tools.

I think workflow improvements and solidifying the existing tools to be more useful would be the most important considerations for a 7.6 update.

Well that and built-in vertex animation.

Improved UVE.

Unified material editor.

AVI texture support.

There's my short list for things I want in 7.6. ;)

We all need to post our workflow issues and changes wanted in the feature suggestions section so that Caligari knows what we want. If there's a tool you need or want, post that too! Pictures help a lot, so post diagrams or screen caps showing what you want the new tools to do.

-Jack.

Well I agree, I don't really expect any of those from a free(last I remembered)upgrade...I know the vertex anim is coming, I think they made that statement. More stbility is always good...maybe they could set the vertex/edge weight to 0 by default for new divisions on a mesh when modeling, The weight tool are difficult to use when you don't have visual feed back(the colors like in weight paint for bones).
