We already added edge tools and we are working on vertex animation tools.
I am very interested in hearing about ANY workflow problems in TS7.5 it is a priority for TS7.6 please let us know about anything you do not like. |

Thanks for the resolution. I know you have seen all my posts regarding this...thank you will be tendered upon the tS8.0 release. Thanks again Roman...and thanks for being possibly the best CEO of all. It's not often that other CEO's reply and visit their own forums, not to the extent that you do. |

Roman my biggest issue besides no path tools in workPlace would be how lights are handled. I hope this is addressed in the next release. We have documented the issues repeatedly so I won't rehash. Also put more contols in the Stack!
ME and UV Editor are your weak links and need a drastic update. Just check how many people use other programs to do this stuff. Why not use TS?
Get Luuv or some Obj import/export into workPlace.
Have an option for the Obj control Widget, old or new. I wish we had both! |

Roman, I second the selectionbox style widget option in workspoace
the ability to customise the interface panels via a global setting , font colour, bold type option, background colour would be nice. that includes the script editor, where font size, colour, bold option and backlground colour should be customizable. icon tooltips as well
icon background should be customizable to the shade of grey that you want..:)
better control over the axis[pivot] via an object's boundingbox like on modelside with plugins or selectionbox widget |

And Lightworks and VirtualLight rendering capability in the workspace. If we want to render using these, we must currently move to the ModelView, which is what Truespace / Caligari is *Phasing Out*.

As some of us are gradualy learning Ts 7.15 we stumble across some of these
things ... but it realy needs a lot more time to find solutions .... the way we would like things to work.I stated some of the things before and one more
is the object info . Multi - object is now only in model - side.
One can go to the objects and "layers" directly with it from model side and not from workspace side (dropdown - menue ). One always knew what was in a scene and where the things were just from one panel. and you could move
all objects and lights just from one panel . Maybe I miss something.......and
it is there (well someplace) but I cant figure it out ( were it is now in workspace side ).One can inspect the link editor .... but something
so " everyday " should not force you to always hunt the LE .... |

Here is a short clipboard of what I am talking about....
I find that we have "triangles" in some places and in others
where we could very well need them .... we dont have them.
This is another inconsistency that I found.
In addition to the triangles it would be nice to have the
mouse scrollwheel (when number is highlighted)to "finetune".
Maybe with different keys for different finetune speeds.... |

Did anyone mention having the object selected should perhaps make the LE automatically Centre Object In Link Editor?
Strikes me that as we're selecting an object it's safe to say that (mostly) the selected object should become the focus (as it is in the 3D window now) in the LE window (it isn't centred there yet, one more operation)

If I remember correctly this is by design. If you have a number of objects in the LE that you are trying to link together (such as shaders, scripts, procedural generators etc) it's undesirable to have your current panel keep moving off screen in the LE just because you select a different object in the Workspace. The decision was made to have the user select when to centre the panel in the LE with a <shift> left click on the LE navigator. |

I have posted that some time ago.
The greatest problem I have with TS 7.51 is
that the cob file format must have been changed.
Cobs with textures no longer load into Vue 6 inf.
Plain objects do !
They used to do that with TS6.6 very nicely incl bump maps.
Please change that !
The purpose of file fomats is to get things in and
out of different applications !
The other companies have much closer integration
with the plugs and xstream to Vue.
We lost the best and simplest solution that worked
for years. |

I don't have Vue but are you doing a save as .COB or a save as trueSpace 6.6 Object .COB? Is there a difference between them if you save as both types and load into Vue? What about saving as a truespace 6.0 object or a truespace 5.x object? |

Sorry that I was a little unprecise about that !
I save "All" versions of cob ! I tried them all ! They all fail to load ! :(
When I save from TS 6.6 and save as cob, cob 6, cob5 , cob 4.3 ....
They all load perfectly with all sides texturised or with plain color.
One can split in Vue to make seperate objects (one can change the
textures per object). |

Image browser - Say I want to use an image in a DX9 realtime shader - I control double click the thumbnail and I get a standard windows file browser which gives a list of files - what happened to using a visual graphic browser? Currently when texturing I have a copy of Irfanview open on my textures directory so I can quickly and visually identify the graphic file I want - this is clunky and not a flowing workflow at all! |

Roman, I was modeling last night and kept thinking how great the tools are in the new workSpace, but the modeling widget is driving me crazy! Why can't the user select placement of that thing? This is how it feels...(Picture attached)
Sometimes moving object forward or backwards is impossible because the selection triangle is too small or not visible. |

If at all possible, the ability to import Poser characters with their dynamic hair (applied in Poser) in tact in TrueSpace. PLEASE implement this if you can. It would save me a lot of problems!!! |

Roman,
I do not think you are pushing the collaboration too hard. In fact, your last post is the first bit of acknowledgement regarding collaboration in quite awhile, driven in part, I believe, by the recent community drive to get the ball rolling, so to speak. As you stated in an earlier blog post (I am paraphrasing here), great tools are useless unless implemented by the artists. And that's what we are doing. If you like what you see so far, you ain't seen nothin yet! :) Stand by....

No your not ! But we have come to a point where most of
the things created in these collaborate sessions should be added to
a repository. The scripts the people make are all very usefull but
when they would come handy for the peoples work in the future
not everyone can remember "where" and when.
Your bias towards the collaborative side should not keep you from
adjusting offline functionality.
I ad this like I promised in the other Vray thread that some of us would
like to see animated textures and others (high on my priority list) would
like to see layered textures to Vray ( and maybe if that would be possible light emitting objects...). Offline will be around for some time !
I dont think it vanishes that fast ! |

If the visionary who saw into the future and created 3d software like none other stops pushing it to where he sees the future to be, we are all in big trouble - keep going, we'll all catch up eventually :)

Workflow improvements? Woo, that IS good news. As for pushing the collaborative stuff - it's obvious you're excited about it, I can see it will have bigger benefits in the future and I don't think you 'push it too hard'. Which is just as well really as, to be honest, if you did it would be extremely irritating when things like schizophrenic multiple toolbars, icons showing selected but not being, tools not being selected when they should be, primitives appearing half way through the floor, some tools not working properly, default render engine not being useable, etc, are present. Basially, collaboration shouldn't be the focus while there are many issues with the main app.
Or, as a sage friend of mine elegantly put it, "It's the phonebox on the way to the big top - nice to have available but it's not why you're at the circus" |

I liked the "lighter side of Roman" in the post, and yes up and onward for interactivity...not so big a fan of collaborative..I also don't like sports....sue me.
You can have all the collaboration and interaction you want, but you are using these tools to drive the "art", let's not forget the art. |

Wow.
I've been hanging around the forums here for hours today with one trueSpace7.51 session open and one Internet Explorer session open doing all kinds of experiments in trueSpace and truePlay on the one hand and trying to keep up with a mountain of new development-related PM's here and new posts on the other...
...and in all that flurry I completely missed for hours the most wonderful thing happened here... this latest Captain's Blog post of yours.
I'm genuinely delighted to hear your personal observations here on these recent scripting development efforts and their place in our Community.
If anything Sir, I'd like to hear a great deal more of your viewpoints along these and similar lines, certainly not less! By all means, let's "push these envelopes" together.;)
I believe "rrf" spoke most accurately and sincerely for a great many of us here in his reply to you above when he said:
If the visionary who saw into the future and created 3d software like none other stops pushing it to where he sees the future to be, we are all in big trouble - keep going, we'll all catch up eventually:)
He certainly spoke for me anyway, I agree 100 percent with him.
I believe we are all at last truly catching a clear glimpse of the same vision together here as a Community, a unifying vision, a determined vision.
I see the technically minded and the artistically minded joining forces more each day here, genuinely appreciating each others contributions toward the collective good more each day here, supporting one another more each day here, and above all striving together toward precisely the same objective more each day here... the genuine Community realization of that same future which you have most clearly seen all along.
Thank you Sir for empowering us, now I believe it's our turn to genuinely empower the Caligari Community. Along those lines Sir, as Frootee said most accurately above: "you ain't seen nothin yet! :) Stand by...."

Just for the record, I should state that I didn't make the actual sign you see in the image. I made a simple sign that showed the avatar count and somebody went and made it look better. Not sure who revamped it but it looks nicer then what I had originally posted. :)
Thanks for the kind words in your post Roman. I also have the utmost respect for you and the Caligari team. Very smart and innovative bunch. :) |

The only issues I have with the collaborative stuff is that 1, I can't take full advantage of it due to being limited to dial-up by the prohibitive pricing of greedy Telco's and 2, I do like to play the solitary artist - I just need a garret to starve in!
I think there are two very different thrills involved - one is , Oh look at what I made and the other is Oh look at what we made. I suppose it's analogous to a solo musician and someone who also plays in a band.
I suspect the best response is to follow the advice of Buddha and seek the middle way - keep on pushing the collaboration but also balance that with the 'solo artist' aspects of this great software. |
