I agree. I thought about maxwell, but it's speed depends on the quality you want e.g. longer render better result, like indigo. Never heard of that other frythingy renderer. Gonna take a gander.

My view is that V-Ray is far superior to Lightworks, Lightworks has its charms but its old, and even with new features in the latest build, V-Ray is capable of rendering far higher quality images.
However! V-Ray must be bought seperatly and I think it is unfair that there is a lack of render engines available for the new TS7 architecture, thus Lightworks should be available or at least something as Free-ware as not everyone can afford V-Ray (I can lol :p ).

I wouldn't call VRay superior to Lightworks, I'd call it a different solution to different problems; there are still many things you can do with Lightworks that not even the full, true version of VRay available for other 3D applications can do.

For certain things, VRay is the solution. For others, Lightworks is the solution. If one renderer were "better" or "superior" to another, then everyone would use the "best" renderer. That is, fortunately, not the case - there are dozens of high-quality renderers out there (hopefully some will make it over to trueSpace once the tS7 SDK is released), each with their own strengths & weaknesses.

If you ask me..... its a problem of money.
Both lightwork for Ts and Vray for TS look like limited editions versions.
It could maybe be that the companies would charge higher fees or maybe its
to expensive to have the render engines fully adapted.
Lightworks is not incapable at all..... just does not have all the new
specs. But its high time there is some improvement.
I would miss lightwork very much ... even if Vray were standard.

If enough users request that a 3rd-party render engine be ported to trueSpace - and more importantly, if enough users are willing to pay what high-end render engines cost (they're commonly more expensive than the 3D application you're buying them for, and trueSpace users are notoriously cheap when it comes to 3rd-party plugins) - and the tS7 SDK is good enough/easy enough to use, other render engines will be ported over.

That being said, I'd prefer Lightworks to stay the default renderer and VRay an optional add-on. If a user really needs the features of VRay, they can buy it - this isn't exactly a new concept in the 3D marketplace :).

I'm not trying to start a "rant and Rave session"(not aimed at you DS), I merely want to hear some "THOUGHTS" from the Caligari team(the ones that pop up here and have read this entire post and do not comment, due to the fact that it's a sensitive one). Hello guy's, I know you are reading along.

I personally don't see any rants here yet, I think the discussion has been pretty civilized so far. Being a forum, you can't really expect to make a post like this without some commentary.

However, it would be nice to hear Caligari's response to the original question you asked. It seems to be an emotive issue with many users.

I agree with DS's take on this btw.

The answer will have to be our usual one, which is that we do not discuss development issues until they are close to release. So at the moment, we can't share any interesting answers to the original question (hence the silence).

The place to watch for any news on these items is the Captain's Blog, but even then things have to be far enough along in a decision and development stage before they show up in there.

Just to save people wondeirng why we are not replying, this is the reply to say why we can't reply :)

HTH!

Tom

EDIT - PS, but of course we are reading and taking notes and paying attention to what people say, so comments and feedback like this are welcome and keep it coming! While we might not be able to give you much in the way of replies, questions like these do feed into the development process, so serve a very useful and valuable function.

Now lets really talk bad about what Tom said, as it does not satisfy every single user..
I have a lame sense of humor. Anyway.....

As I expected Tom, thanks anyway.

As do I, but....

When people start stating that "A" is better than "B", that is ranting/debating...IMO.
