oh nice.. looking better. the picture is a tad dark, I can't make out the hair except where it falls over her face.
something is lacking though, I can't put my finger on it.. it might be the eyes.. they need to have more expression or something. |

What a difference with the eyelashes. You're heading towards the right direction, looks much more like her. |

amazing the difference the eyelashes make. I think they're a bit short on the upper eyelid though. still no texture, other than the iris, so I hope she'll come to life once such detail is added. going to look at the eyebrows next, alpha mapped texture to a simple object I think.
keep the comments coming. |

Wicked! She's definitely coming along nicely and is more and more recognizable as Charlize - well done, I'm impressed. Currently the face texture is too plastic and CG looking but knowing your attention to detail I figure thats just temporary. Even the most perfect real skin has imperfections and blemishes that help to make it look 'real'.
Keep on keepin' on dude, this is starting to look like a real winner! |

Wow!
I'm very impressed that you managed to get the likeness!
Pretty people must be harder to make than less pretty, since
the recognizable facial features they have are much more subtle...
like her mouth area that you succeeded to recreate ! Keep em coming! :D |

geometry still being adjusted. every time I come back to this, I see a problem. also, the final version will need adjustment to reduce symmetry.
added eyebrows, which I need to improve, and a few simple textures.
thanks for all the positive feedback

Luverly!
The lighting makes a huge difference.. the skin looks softer now, and slightly flueorescent.. the hair is the obvious next challenge I guess..! |

latest state of play.
a lot of subtle changes to the mesh, particularly the eyes. still more to do. made some basic hair with textures. not going to overcomplicate the hair till I'm happy with the rest. maybe have 7.5 by then? may start on the skin texture if I get the chance this week |

Gorgeous, eyes look very realistic now. I wonder how far you gonna push the details, would love to see a "fake or foto?" result. |

still got a lot of work to do. the cheeks are not right, ears have to be added (working on them separately because I find them quite a challenge). texturing will be the last thing I do, but I fully intend to make this model look as realistic as possible. displayed this over at the 3dtotal forum, which is very much 3d studio, maya and zbrush people (where there is a lot of mediocrity as well as stunning skill and experience), and got some good feedback too. |

Try finding a side-profile pic of her, where her ear isn't covered by hair, crop it so it's just the ear, then plug it in to Johny's gizmo (http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?p=8053#post8053). It'll still need tweaking afterwards, but it should make things a bit easier. |

This is coming along very nice Chris. The likeness is getting better and better. :) Yeah, ears are always fun. Awkward little things. Keep it coming, I'm enjoying seeing this evolve. :) |

another update. getting a little obsessive compulsive over modelling. remodelled various areas after finding some better reference images. the ears still need work as does the mouth (the transition from lip to skin is too harsh. still haven't done much about texturing, and the hair came with daz studio, though I altered the colouring.
it's coming along slowly.

What are your sss shader settings? I've tried to get realistic skin for ages, but I always wind up with some transparent malarkey.
Brilliant work by the way. In fact, if you go to http://www.scifi3d.com/ and go to http://www.scifi3d.com/details.asp?cat=details&key=708&intGenreID=20&intCatID=54 from there, there's a nice cg picture of her in Aeon Flux. |

Thanks to all once again for the positive feedback.
Still going to persevere for a while yet, just to iron out all the imperfections.
I haven't used SSS here, just the glossy shader for the skin. I may use SSS in the final render. Posted on 3dtotal as well.
watch this space for future updates.

Oh my goodness. You totally had me fooled. Incredible results with the glossy shader, I'd've (double contraction! :D) labeled that as sss any day.
Carry on then, sir! |

Phenomenal work. I did like the other hair as well, might not serve for that POV though. |
