another stab at remodelling. you'll notice the cheeks are much rounder. nose still wrong, but I've got better references now. still not convinced it looks enough like her, but the mesh is almost perfect now, so there's a lot to be said for texturing having a real impact on the way someone looks. I need to bring her to life somehow, with a smile perhaps?
this is the toughest project I've taken on. |

she is looking stunning...very nice modelling imo...
the top picture looks like Charlize, especially.
in the frontal pic you can tell that the 2 sides of her face are almost perfectly symmetrical, which doesn't always occur in nature; especially in profile it seems. Might be a little too 3d looking because of this 'perfection'.
Like I said though, excellent work so far. |

Ok I'll be the only person that sees two things not quite right yet.
The hair line on her right side is sudden and needs blending (smaller hairs layered on top to get rid of the line) and that sparkle in the eye you had in your previous post.
If you nail that I want her phone number!:) |

I appreciate your positive comments, but I still consider this too much a wip to post in the gallery. I think I've sorted out the nose now (next post), and I want to work a bit more on the ears and the lacrimal area, then adjust the mesh to reduce the symmetry. Also need to work on the lashes, which are too regular, and not dense enough. Once I'm fully content with the model, I'll improve the texturing, adding a bit of makeup and blemishes (perish the thought) etc.

This is the best in forums at the moment IMHO, but I think one of the problems is that she lacks any emotion whatsoever, how about just a hint of a smile. |

She's coming along very nicely. So far I think the one in the middle gives the most "lifelike" impression. Very nice work. :) |

Spent a good few hours working on the nose, and I finally got it spot on. Much better than the generic nose I had unitl now. |

Shes a beauty and no mistake Chris. What plans do you have for the hair?? the only two point that I would raise is that the hair looks to angular and the eyebrows look painted on. The face itself, like the nose, is spot on indeed. |

chrisj ,she is coming alive..but I agree with Madmouse about the eyebrows & hair..you could try "scatter" to put some poly eyebrows..you just need a "poly slice" of the area to scatter onto... |

I agree, hair can't hold up to the rest. Please don't overdo the eyebrows ;) Just a subtle suggestion that there is something.
I like the hair you used in the previous version (http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showpost.php?p=14841&postcount=42). Plus the eyes seem to have lost that special expression from that image. The face is *****
Edit: another suggestion, the corners of the mouth look a bit too perfect, but that might be on your todo list already |

Dude, she is just gorgeous! I can't really add anything that hasn't already been said except that I find your attention to detail to be inspirational!
Thanks for sharing her with us! Do you dream about her at night? |

She is a nice model, but I can't see Charlize Theron in her anymore... maybe I'm the only one. It is still impressive stuff though. |

I have to agree with you Zeipher that she has lost a bit of her Charlizeness, and regardless of how good she looks, she's not what I started out to produce. I now know where the problem lies, and it's with the eyes and eyebrows. Just moving the brows down a little changed her appearance considerably, so I need to get them right. I'll take a look at the scatter plugin for the brows Stan, as I'm not too happy with my attempts at transparency hairs, thanks for the advice. As for hair, I'll probably just modify some existing poser hair, as I've found it very time consuming to model even simple transparency mapped hair, and the results are no better. Pity I dont have starnd hair to play with (beta versions of 7.5 readily accepted)
And yes Wizard, I've spend so much time looking at her, that she's with me 24 hours now (the real verrions would be better of course).

Don't be disheartened Chris, there can't be many digital artists who can recreate a perfect likeness of an actor; that is why they are often scanned in.
What you have is a lovely image for your portfolio that appears 'inspired' by Charlize and for that,I think it is better. Still needs a bit of work on hair etc. for further realism but it is a great image and far better than I am capable of so I will not even try to advise you how to improve it. |

I know what you're saying Splinters, but I'm big on realism, as you know, so I'll persevere for a while yet. Accelerating towards a finale I believe anyway. I think I'm getting Charlize back again. Worked on the eye brow position and lids. Removing the symmetry is the next key ingredient to a good likeness. Hair is modified poser obj, imported using the luuv plugin.
Time for bed, it's 2 in the morning here.
Cheers

The hair is a vast improvement. IMHO the eybrow still need some work and the lighting in this one is a little harsh for my tastes but shes still an excellent piece of work. |

Maybe if her head was turned away (as it is) but the eyes were turned slightly towards the camera it would look more like a photo shot.
Not much to do on this one I would imagine, hair aside. Do you put her through a dreamy filter or such like in photoshop? Maybe a little diffuse glow would also help to soften. Would be interesting to see this with Vray SSS. |

Mmmm, nice hair ! :D
You proved to me that alpha-mapped hair gives great result.
Hm, I never felt that you lost the Charlize-look...perhaps I don't
have as keen eyes as the rest of you ;) |

First thing that jumps out at me is the shadow across her forehead from the hair. I would imagine it to be softer with some hair detail in the shadow rather than a solid band. |

Excuse the poor effort-I am at school and have neither a graphics tablet or decent monitor at hand. At least this maybe gets the point across. I also tried a little diffuse glow and dreamy photo filter as well as colour adjustment. Not to detract from your excellent work of course...just wanted to try it...
personally, I like this soft look but if I were to go further with it I would work on enhancing the eyes and get a bit more contrast in.
Again, excellent work here Chris. |

I actually did that with many of the images Splinters, but not to the same degree. I typically copy the image onto a new layer in psp, apply a gaussian blur and vary the overlay parameters. Back to working with the eyes again. The problem is not so much the shape of the eye, but the socket and how the flesh hangs around it, and the top of the cheek. Not easy to get the right reference angles, and it's trial and error working across multple elevations. Good thing I've got so much time on my hands. I entered teaching myself, and completed a probation year here in Glasgow teaching Physics. Now I'm unemployed again, hoping for a supply work. What do you teach?

@chrisj:
Do you have transparant shadows on ?
The sharp shadow edges that Splinters mentioned suggests you don't.
(I mean the lightsetting in Lightworks and rendersetting in Vray)
@Splinters:
What a dreamjob ! :D |

The previous renders had transparency mapping off for time considerations.
Another day worth of tweaking around the eyes and cheeks. Nearly there, but as usual, I've spotted areas in need of work. Happy with the hair, but the eyebrows are still the same simple transparency at present.
I'm going to add a slight smile once I'm finished the eyes.
