I don't really understand the tech involved here, but it looks sweet. Some of this reminds me of TS7.5's new animation system.

That is way cool Transient, thanks for sharing that link.

The Soft Selection Tool in trueSpace 7.51 is very close to being as intuitive as the algorythm method employed in that video already... a truly cool and powerful feature of trueSpace I just love to play with.:D

The animated Armadillo at the end of the video was sooooo coool. That is what I picture TS doing eventually. This was an IBM research video?

Thanks for the heads-up transient very interesting, a dragon in a tutu :) must be motion capture

The tech involved is transferring the object's vertex/triangles data to local memory space onboard a graphics card and processing the vertices in there via the GPU (Graphics card cPU) rather than by the system CPU (which needs to be doing other things); and also involved is finding/showing a solution to damping down unpredicted resonances/discontinuities within an animated mesh. Some small change in the mesh leads to instability (under physics perhaps) like the pencil's stability when stood on its end, small change in XY and gravity grabs the pencil meaning a crash

The GPU thing looks interesting in prospect for D3D, especially if you have a 768MB DX10 card. More GPU RAM means taking the load off the CPU once the GPU gets involved in physics. GPU programmers are currently looking to do physics on the graphics card where there's spare capacity, to take the physics load off the CPU
