The old 10 second club is long gone, CGSociety has a monthly contest... but it is a bit too professional over their for my feeble attempts at animating... anyone interested in trying to do som modest character animation? We can do simple walk, run, skip, jump type stuff. Each new contest could include a link to a basic tutorial to help you get thru the basics (generic tutorial based only on the mechanics not the software).

There are already a couple of people around here that are pretty good, so they might be able to provide some feedback. In the end we all benefit thru being able to learn from our own experience and the help from others...

Anyone up to it?

:D

Is CrazyBob. Thanks to Oliver and 3DFrog.

Rulez:

Make a nice walk of any style, just have some fun and post your results here... if we get enough people involved we will make more official rulez. No winners, no losers, just play along and learn.

may I suggest that, at the end of the competition, everyone upload their scenes (if they want to) so we can all download them for examination and experimentation?

Nice idea... it would be cool if there was a quick no frills type walk thru after the contest. But I don't want to scare anyone away.

how about just whatever we want to type? Maybe one line or two, about techniques, or references used (books, web links), caveats we ran into, workarounds, basically whatever we feel could be useful (even if that would be nothing at all)

Purely optional, it could be nothing more than a couple of pictures with some basic steps. Or if it is a problem... nothing :) Mostly the contest is supposed to be about having alittle fun, learn by doing and learn by watching someone else's progress...

I don't want to make too many rulez yet. Keeping it easy and wide open for interpretation hopefully gets people interested enough that they join in. It would be better to keep something like this at the beginner level.

How does August 26th sound? That gives everyone 2 full weekends to play around with it.

This gives me time to finish off a couple of the things I have laying around here...

Everyone ok with this?
