Hi Caligari.

I've finally started to get to work on learning the new TrueSpace environment and I have to say, while I'm still looking for a nice interface setup, I am picking it up quite well. I'm hopping to have my first TrueSpace 7.51 pic to show soon.

Anyway, a few things have come to my attention that I'd like to bring to yours.

1.

In TrueSpace 7.51, there is a File menu up at the top left of the screen with Load, New, Save, etc... in there. While working on my first TrueSpace 7.51 scene, I went up there, hit save, and a Save dialogue box opened. I selected to save the scene (RsScn) and all was well...

Until...

I went to save the scene again. This time when I went up to File, Save, I got the same Save dialogue box?!?! And this happened every time I went to save my scene?!? It seems that the Save option is a Save As... option, it's not a simple Save as in over write the current scene file as I've made a change I want to save. I save a lot when working, just to be safe, but it's very tedious always having to set the save options. Is there a standard Save option somewhere I don't know about? If not, you really need to implement one.

2.

I don't currently have VRay. As I'm learning the new TrueSpace, I'm working mostly in WorkSpace mode. It's a real pain having to switch back and forth between the two modes just so i can hit the render button!

Do some work...

Switch to Model view...

Render to see the change...

Switch back to WorkSpace view...

Make a change...

Switch to Model view...

Render to see the change...

Switch back to WorkSpace view...

Make a change...

Switch to Model view...

Render to see the change...

Switch back to WorkSpace view...

Make a change...

...

...

...

And so on. There is a VRay render button in WorkSpace mode but because I don't have VRay, it does nothing. You should be able to hold down the mouse button on it and switch it to a standard render mode. It's crazy having to jump back and forth all the time. Please fix this.

3.

I wanted to see what the new TruePlay was like to I loaded it up but I didn't know how to open my RsScn file. I checked the manual but unless I missed it, the manual is solely focused on using it with TruePlace and not using it with an offline scene because I still couldn't find out how to load my own scene. Anyway, I did eventually figure it out, using the File menu at the top. But that's not what I want to highlight here.

While trying to figure out how to open my own scene, I looked at the buttons on the main menu. There is Visit TruePlace and View Local Scenes (or something like that). I though the View Local Scenes button was the one to click so I did.

Suddenly, my whole PC was stopped as Norton's Anti-virus popped up a huge warning box saying a very damgerous script was trying to run and Norton's had stopped my PC to get my input on it. I was quite alarmed at first but after viewing the info presented to me, I knew it was just TruePlay trying to do something so allowed it to run. Suffice to say, it wasn't the button I needed to click to load a scene.

But my point is, if we create interactive scenes for folks to visit offline using TruePlay, and someone, like me, clicks this button and gets this very RED alert box pop up from the PC's security software saying this is dangerous, that's a complete disaster for us! Think about it...

I go to a website and see an interactive 3D scene available for download from the site. I'm interested, I download it. I load TruePlay and click the View Local Scenes button and suddenly me PC's security software brings the computer to a sudden halt warning me that this is damgerous! To hell with that! I don't allow the script to run. I delete the scene file and TruePlay from my computer. And I go and bad-mouth that website to all my friends!!!

EEK!!!!!

You may want to look into this!!!

4.

Anyway, I got my scene loaded and while moving around it, I realised I was crawling along!! It was nowhere near as fast as how TruePlace scenes move. It was a fairly detailed scene so perhaps there were too many polygons in there and it was going slow, but if not, how do I move at a decent speed?

5.

Then something hit me...

TruePlay had just opened my RsScn file...

Oh... Wait a minute...

If I create an interactive 3D world for folks to download from my website and visit on their computers via TruePlay, what they are basically getting is my raw RsScn scene file! That's not good. What if it contains some of my personal creation that I don't want to give out to any Joe Bloggs to get his hands on... We need to be able to save our RsScn files for TruePlay use only. If protected, it can be opened and used in TruePlay fine, but not in TrueSpace. Can this be implemented please?

Well, that's it. Sorry if some of this comes off sounding like I'm complaining, I'm not, just pointing out problems that I hope can be solved.

Hi Paul...

I waited a few hours hoping this would get a company reply before I jumped in here, but I agree... this is important stuff you're pointing out here for sure.

I think it would be good to re-post this in the "Bugs" area of the forums... a mandatory reading area for the powers that be I'm sure.;)

Hi 3DVD.

At this time, there are 89 hits to this topic and I have to say, I am shocked that there is not one reply from a Caligari member just to even acknowledge my points, let along offer any tips or info on the questions I had. While the movement speed is a minor concern, some of the others are not, such as when Norton's froze my PC and warned me a dangerous script was attempting to run, or that our interactive scenes are in fact our raw RsScn files. These are serious matters.

I will do as you said, 3DVD, as these issues need addressing.

Paul I think the reason you're not getting any replies is that these are current issues and there aren't any solutions at the moment.

Caligari employees can't reply because of the policy about not talking about future features/changes until they become finalized.

These are all good points you've made and shared by almost all the forum members. I think this was a great post that organized the issues in a way that Caligari can easily understand the problems.

Roman, please accept my apology for the tone of that post above. I'm still riding an emotion rollercoast of last week being the one year anniversary of my poor Ma's passing so that post above comes off sounding worst then it should. I'm sorry for that, I really am.
