Hi folks. If you want to learn more about scripting and the Link Editor (LE), come to the Trueplaces Forums, in the Meeting Room, at 9 PM, Tuesday, August 21.
Dele will be presenting some really cool stuff.
Here's a breakdown of the schedule of events:
1. 9 PM: Dele presents
2. Q & A Session
3. Experimentation / Chat
Everyone is welcome to attend. Be sure to brush up on the basics. There has been a flurry of activity here on the forums recently regarding LE and scripting. If you have any questions of course, please ask!

DOH!
9 PM EST.
Norm could you please change the title to reflect the correct time zone? I don't think I can do that. That would be most appreciated!
Thanks,

Just so I get this straight,
Is this a TS 7.51 only event or TS 7.51 and truePlay 1.3 event? Seems like many people show but it turns out to be the OTHER room.
Can people using TS 7.51 demo show up too? |

I shot Norm a PM about this since I am not sure how to get this going for both trueplay 1.3 and truespace 7.51. Anyone know how to do that? Also, I thought you could login using the demo version of 7.51. The only thing about the demo is there is no manual, and you cannot save. Everything else is there (I think).

The setup Norm posted there is the same as the "Thursday Night Live" meetings in the Meeting Room of the regular truePlaces / truePlay Server.
I saw yesterday that the "Sign Link" (enabling one to go to the truePlace Server from the Shared Space Server) which Cyan made in the center of the Meeting Room in the Shared Space Server is still there and also working. Hopefully nobody will mess with that because it is a nice feature for these meetings for obvious reasons. |

yup. TO make sure we are open to the widest audience possible, truespace users should configure for the trueplay portal, so those using trueplay can chime in. However, if you want to see what Dele is doing, by opening scripts, etc. in the LE, you really should be using truespace to connect. Reason is trueplay won't let you do that, from my understanding.

Yes is true that truePlay can not show 2d and 1d aspects. If anyone has truePlay and wishes to see these aspects, is easy to go download the trueSpace7.51 demo, which will do it all. :) |

OK Cool. Thanks Norm.
Norm posted the info for configuring truespace to access the trueplay server previously in this thread.
If anyone has any trouble with executing the procedure prior to the Tuesday meeting, please post here and we'll walk you through it, one way or another!

@ Norm -
EDIT - Disregard this post Norm - We're already on this with you in the following thread thanks:
http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=3900 (http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=3900)
Hi Norm,
This new Script Hookup initiative is a fantastic idea and I'm really excited about what it will help Scripting and LE Newbies like me discover and use in my own immersive and interactive scenes!
Frootee, Délé, and I are trying to figure out a way to control the matrix of an Avatar in shared space in order to enable that person to overcome physics in specific defined situations and for a limited time while in shared space. There is a thread here which touches on some of the implications of what this would allow us to create in shared space and for trueplay here on pages 4 and 5:http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=3830 (http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=3830)
As mentioned there, we have arrived very close to a solution but are faced with a problem which is unique to Avatars, and that is being able to take temporoary control of an Avatar's matrix.
The following two commands appear in the code of the truePlace "Lab" scene in the "Central Doors Switcher" object:
RsTool.GetAvatarsEnumerator()
and
Avatars.GetAvatarMatrix()
Our problem at this point is that we are having difficulty getting these to work. The code context they appear within suggests the possibility that they could be "trueServe-ONLY" commands, but we really need to know more about their use so we can utilize them (or devise an alternate to them) so we can accomlish the awesome development potentials referred to in the thread above on pages 4 and 5.
Can you give us a little "inside help" on these two commands and their application?
Thanks sincerely....

Ok here is what I am told recently by Tomas:
node.value('/space3d/.../developer1/position','cam')
where /space3d would be replaced (for me) by: /Project/Meeting Room/developer1 ... so it is path of avatar you want to access.
the input connector "cam" is hidden and used internally, but it can be accessed by hacking the code line above. The cam is actually an rdmatrix so it has things like tx and ty and tz and such. So once you script to grab the info for the cam, you have the avatar's position. Now this is actually the reverse of what you guys want but it is important. You could attach stuff to avatar with this info. But you folks want to attach avatar to stuff so ....
Up in the LE in the System area, you find the D3DView node. Inside that node you find the Eyecamera_{gobblygook} node. You enter that node and see some matrix info on the euler transform. That info is what you want to change, to change the local of the avatar. Go visit shared space and try adjusting that info and you see yourself move in space ... pretty cool :)
Hope this helps a little. |

Tomorrow is the big day here!!!
This will be one fantastic night!:)
There have been so many incredible breakthroughs in new interactive scripting capabilities in this last week that this coming meeting will give us all a great opportunity to share them all and discuss their use in detail!
Don't be put off by the word "Script" either, because this meeting will be attended by many folks here (including myself) who know next-to-nothing ~yet~ about scripting in trueSpace. This will be a chance to have people who do understand this stuff reach out to all of us who do not understand this stuff and together we will begin to make all these things a common part of our everyday trueSpace projects.:)
Join us in this, and together lets bring all our work, and each other, to the next level.:)

Just a reminder about the Tuesday night scripting chat which will be taking place at 9 PM EST Tuesday night (tomorrow).
We have been doing a lot of brainstorming, which has resulted in Dele successfully acquiring control of the avatar view in trueplay and truespace. This means that elevators, transporters (like in Star Trek), escalators, rollercoasters, etc. can now be successfully implemented for interactive scenes. We have been testing these, working out bugs. After Dele's presentation, we will drop some of these into the shared space for us all to play.
Dele will be using Voice, since it is far easier to explain what is going on. As such, Please read this:
If you are going to have your microphone on, Turn Your Speakers Off. Otherwise no one will be able to hear anything.
If you are going to use your speakers, Turn Off Your Microphone. Otherwise no one will be able to hear anything.
Also, it is highly recommended for you to login to the shared spaces using Truespace, not Trueplay, so you can see what Dele is doing in the Link Editor (LE). We will be logging into the trueplay portal. Instructions are posted earlier in this thread.
Well, that's about all I have for now. Tonight I am going to play around with these cool new features. I hope everyone can attend. This should be very interesting and fun to see the new stuff in action!

Awesome work everyone - this is really what the truePlace spaces are all about, a place for the comunity to run their own events.
While Thursday Night Live is awesome fun, it really pleases me to see that people aren't just waiting for us here at Caligari to organize events. So yes please, feel free to start organizing meetings, regular or one off, technical or just plain fun! The spaces are there to be used by our community members, not just for us to put on Caligari events :)
Not sure I will be able to attend but I'll give it a try! I would appreciate if anyone could send in some notes if I don't make it in, some screen grabs maybe, a summary of what was discussed maybe, anything like that - mail them in to me, and maybe we can turn this into an article.
Or, if you plan on hosting this regularly (monthly, weekly, bimonthly, twice a year, whatever) we can set up a little page for it like we have one for the Thursday Night Live! event. We'd be happy to give coverage to user events on our site.
Just email info to me (thomas@caligari.com) and I'll see what can be done! I might not be able to get something together for tomorrow, but if it is a recurring event I ought to be able to have something live for it next time around.
Thanks!

Thanks Tom,
It will certainly be a recurring weekly event, although we are not sure at this point yet whether it may be better to have a bi-weekly "main event" alternate with a bi-weekly informal but related "get-together," we're mulling that over until tommorow night. Either way, though it will certainly be recurring regardless of the number of initial attendees, that much we can be sure of.:)
I apologize on behalf of all of us involved in this drive for not making a better effort to keep you informed directly on our related intentions, it was simply a matter of us all being so "caught up in the excitement" of these new and innovated developments over the last week which prevented us from looking farther ahead to the potentials inherent in joining forces with you in this!
Thanks you for joining us in this Tom, your assistance is most welcome indeed. Together we can all accomplish a great deal, and toward that end we will certainly endeavor from this point forward to avail ourselves of any related support in these efforts you may wish to provide us with.
These meetings will likely be huge in a month or two given the quality and number of innovative tools which are now emerging here, so while the meeting tomorrow is just a modest beginning, great things indeed are in store.;)
Thank you.:)

Hi all,
Your countdown is here:
http://www.caligari.com/ScriptLive.asp
Feel free to use links to the page, we'll keep the counters updated each time you let me know a meeting is scheduled.
We might be able to do a half banner (sometimes at least) for the meetings on the home page too, will look into that for the next meeting (this will depend on just what is on the half banners at the time, etc, so I can't promise, but we'll see what is possible).

That's an awesome job you did on that and so fast!!!
I wasn't really expecting anything like that and it's a fantastic surprise! I was just kidding Frootee with that message! But hey... that's a fantastic thing you've done and maybe it will also keep us from missing each other on the exact timing!
Way nice thing for you to do for us Tom... thank you sincerely!
I just met Theuns from South Africa via truePlay1.3 who will be attending tonight, so apparently the word is already out worldwide!
This will be a great night for us all!

Also no mention about downloading the free 7.5 demo to join. This way visitors can study the LE scripts. With truePlay they cannot.
The link is not part of the other truePlaces yet. FYI
I'm not part of this thing but did want their showing to be a success. It will also help promote TS 7.5 by getting it in the hands of newbies. |

Just a reminder about the Tuesday night scripting chat which will be taking place at 9 PM EST TONIGHT, in the Caligari shared space Meeting Room, using the trueplay portal: tpportal.caligari.com . Instructions for configuring truespace 7.51 for connection to to the tpportal are posted in this link:
http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=3839
If you do not have truespace 7.51, we recommend you download the free 7.51 trial software. You can get to the shared space with the trial software, and see what Dele is doing in the link editor. With trueplay, you cannot see the action in the link editor, but you can hear voice. That is why using the 7.51 trial software is recommended.
Dele has created some sample LE / scripting items, such as an avatar transporter and an elevator. He has also recorded some free tutorial videos explaining their use. Some future growth items include: rollercoasters, escalators, etc. Your imagination is the limit.
Dele will be using Voice, since it is far easier to explain what is going on. As such, Please read this:
If you are going to have your microphone on, Turn Your Speakers Off. Otherwise no one will be able to hear anything, due to feedback between the microphone and your speakers.
If you are going to use your speakers, Turn Off Your Microphone. Otherwise no one will be able to hear anything, due to feedback between the microphone and your speakers.
Thanks everyone, and we look forward to seeing you there tonight. Scripting and the Link Editor are two very new, powerful features of truespace. Working with it and learning together, we can have a lot of fun!

I'll just add that I have created a little slide projector that I will flip through that has screen grabs so the people using truePlay will hopefully be able to follow along as well.
I'm not certain yet if the slide projector will work well online or cause too much delay for people. We'll have to try it and see I guess. |
