Good to so many had such a good time at the meet. Sadly I can't really participate due to my slow dial-up connection. truePlaces run fine until there are 6 or 7 other folk there when my connection fails to keep up :( .

It would be great if someone could act as secretary or reporter at these events and keep 'minutes' or provide a review or an overview of the event. This would help those of us with limited connections and also those in inconvenient time zones (Thursday 5pm PST is Mid-day Friday here!). Just a thought.

EDIT; D'oh! I've just seen that Roman has fulfilled the role of reporter in the Captains Blog - is there no end to the mans talents?

I've been thinking about this issue quite a bit lately. It seems to me that part of this problem could readily be fixed immediately with a little behind-the-scenes adjustment by the great guys in Tech Support... here's how:

20+ People show up simultaneously at one of the major meeting spots, but others with slow connections who wish to attend have the option of going to a new room instead. Upon entering that room a whiteboard is in front of you showing in realtime the number of Avatars present in certain rooms, those "certain rooms" consisting of the main Meeting Area and 5 alternate meeting areas. Those 5 "alternate meeting areas" in turn are simply dimly lit rooms with a large Viewscreen such as the one now in the new main meeting area.

These "Viewscreens" show the entire meeting in realtime taking place in the busier main meeting area. When inside one of these "alternate meeting areas" you would still be able to interact in realtime with the conversations in the main meeting area via the keyboard.

As these "alternate meeting areas" start to fill up. ie: 5 people in one, for instance, access to those seeking entry in that specific room is denied until that avatar number drops below 5.

Would this work and be helpful maybe?

EDIT: Perhaps these alternate meeting rooms could additionally have camera control in relation to dedicated per-room cameras present in the main meeting area. This, if possible, would permit you to pan the main meeting area in realtime which would be nice and in some cases vital to participating in related realtime text messaging.

how would you talk via text or voice to those in the main meeting? without communication its not so great an option..not bad if you just wanted to watch, but the screen may be part of the ptoblem..I would like to see voice or text message not connected to the room loading..it may take too long to d/l the room but atleast you can join in the chat..now its a farce if you have 56k modem when any script is running ..you simply won't be in sync with text message and voice will only start when the room finishes its d/l or updare so you can't join in..:(

You gave me an idea 3dvd.

I just threw a little sign in the Thursday chat area that shows how many avatars are currently in the room. It updates about every 10 seconds. It's right above the navigation bar. Someone else popped in while I was there testing it and it looked like it worked good. :)

Now we can easily see how many people are at the meetings.

Hi Stan,

I know there are huge technical barriers to this stuff, but I'm also confident that if Caligari and all of us took a stab at overcoming them creatively a practical solution (or barring that, a practical alternative) to each issue may be possible with a dedicated team approach to these issues.

I saw the fact that you and many others were popping out of shared space at the big meeting and I wasn't happy about that at the time at all. I was hoping to get to know you and several other folks at this meeting and these issues obviously presented an obstacle to that potential as well.

I'm just a dreamer tossing around ideas here at this point, but it would be great if we could all arrive at practical solutions to these issues together, and I do believe that, at least, is possible.

Very Cool Délé!!!

Thanks!

(maybe the idea will catch on with the Big C too!;) )

3d visuals dude !

I´m a dreamer too !

i just dreamed it would be cool for us all to climb into

a virtual spaceship and make a trip to a distant planet

in lets say 2-3 hours.Could be mars.hehehehehhe:D

We would see everything in front of us on big

displays like in the planes (movie theater) with Roman

on board as our captain etc.

A second one I dreamed of is a rollercoaster ride together or lets

all go virtual skiing downhill.

There´s something in me that says the steep slopes (with physics)

give us the most fun !!!!!!

Its maybe because I come from an alpine region.

Whos first downhill ? !!!

:D

WE NEED ELEVATORS OR LIFTS !!!!

This could easily be accomplished if the chat window had a logging function.
I mentioned timestamps last Thursday, that's another feature that should be implemented.
Getting rid of the defaulty behavior where the focus jumps to the last typed line would also be great...it makes trying to catch up by reading the backscroll a real exercise in frustration. It also appears the chat window only stores a limited amount of info and the earliest parts of the conversation get dumped as later conversation takes place. This would be less of a problem if logging were enabled. This of course would only work for the text portion of the chat...anything spoken via the voice function is a one time, for your ears only type of thing.
