I'm probably the only guy on the planet still using dial-up. I've been trying to download Dele's DoorTriggers.mov file from the Garage but each time my download has cut off at 7 min 4 sec into the DL.
I've had issues with DLing bigger files from the forums before but this is one I really want to see.
Any suggestions? |

You definitely need a download manager, when I was on dialup it was a godsend I used Freshdownload manager but there are loads to choose from.
http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/
http://www.freshdevices.com/freshdown.html
most sites allow download managers but not all.

Thanks Jim - I used to have a download manager on my old machine. Oddly these forums are the only place I seem to encounter problems - shrugs -
Thanks for the links I'll grab a DL manager and see how I get on. |

I'm trying to split it in half and save as quicktime, hopefully this will make a smaller download. But I cannot guarantee success..
just tried with avi format and it turned into a 1 GB file ....doh!
edit: tried quicktime. way too huge too. Looks like the wmv is as small as it'll get.

Thanks Froo - I appreciate the effort. I've grabbed FreshDownload manager as suggested by Jim and I'm about to give it a go.
I got Dele's Doors scene and I've been amusing myself wandering in and out the doors - too cool! I've had a nose inside the LE and I can probably figure out how to use the doors from there so it's no biggy if I don't see the vid.
Thanks again |

If you have a real-media viewer (Realmedia.com ? ) I got it down to 1.44 MB. I do not have that; but here it is; not sure if it even works but I'll post it here.
not sure if I exported the whole thing or only half....
this is in compressed (rar) format.
edit BTW... the full video is about 10 mins long. If this is 5 mins then I only got half...

Thanks again Froo - I've heard dodgy things about realmedia so I'm a tad reluctant to put it onb my machine.
I tried the DL with the DL manager and managed to get about 2.5 megs of the file before even that got stopped. I can't help wondering if it's a 'time-out' thing with the forum server.
My connection is slow but it's usually rock solid. |

The download manager should allow you to continue broken downloads, also have you set the download manager to the maximum number of retrys?
Is the file a zip or a .mov as that might have something to do with the problem?
Alternate realmedia might be worth a try I think its just a media player classic if I remember correctly http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Real_Alternative.htm

your not the only one W!ZARD. it seems optunized for hispeed downloads now..awhile back I tried to d/l PK's original display script and couldn't until I found a version with a smaller file..:( caligari could make it so d/l's won't time out like that..they have no issue like that with ts upgrades, which take about 6 hrs to d/l |

Glad to hear it's not just me Stan - although of course I'm sorry that you're having problems too.
It does seem strange though as I was able to DL tS 6.6, tS 7.1, tS 7.5, and tS 7.51 including that massive manual with out a hitch.
Even with the DL manager I was unable to get Dele's movie from the forum server. :( .
I'll try again later this evening when the local bit rate goes up because all the porn surfers and U-tube-aholics have gone to bed! |

I too have had a number of problems downloading attachments from the forum, despite having access to a pretty good connection through our office internet connection which I belive is at better than broadband speeds (in theory anyway!)
Problems usually occur for me on larger attachments (e.g. more than 5MB) and almost always if in the order of 10MB ir more... Not sure why, haven't tried for a little while as got fed up with all the failures... |

W!zard, I have some problem with you while tried to donwload some big files from this forums (I use dial up connection too).
My advise: "You can try to download using windows Internet Explorer (dont use any donwload manage because I failed with its several times). When the downloaded stop cause forums time out setting, you can try to download again using IE (remember dont close your IE because we need its cache data here). When 2nd times of download, IE get early data from cache data, if download failed again, you just need to try it again and again.
for example if you donwload 1MB file size:
first failed at 200k,
next time failed at 300k,
next time again failed at 500k,
next try again failed at 550k,
next try again failed at 600k,
...
...
until finish at 1MB. :D (remember dont close your IE until you finish with donwload. If you close your IE before finish with download, you must start from zore again)
HTH! |

Thanks Johny - I've taken to downloading bigger files from the forum using FreshDownload a free DL manager which works fine.
Thanks for the IE tips though - the DL manager does the reconnecting automatically (you can set the number of times you want ti to reconnect). Workd like a charm. |

Try FLV compression. It can go as low as 1 MB and won't lose any quality!:) |
