Hi all,

Important announcements for the upcoming Thursday Night Live on August 23rd.

1. Live Speed Modeling Subject

This time, its a water spray bottle. Our sample image (for reference only, the company who owns this image is in no way involved or associated with Thursday Night Live! or Caligari):

http://www.cleansystem.com/images/Spray%20bottle.jpg

BTW we welcome ideas for future subjects to speed model, send them in to me at thomas@caligari.com. Right now we are doing pretty fast examples of 10 minutes, but we could easily raise that depending on what the community (and participants) would like to see.

2. Live Speed Modeling contestants

I'd like to know who wants to take part this week! Prodgy and Dele were last weeks "racers" and they are welcome to apply again (and it was a joint first place by the way, congratulations to both!). If you plan on taking part, please email me at thomas@caligari.com.

Remember its all for fun, not for a critique of your modeling style, so no need to feel nervous or not good enough, just dive in and have fun! If a longer time would make you feel more comfortable, again just let me know.

3. Show and Tell

We'd like to invite any of our users to take the floor in our live meeting for a "Show and Tell". This can be on any 3D related topic really, if you have an interesting project, a hint or tip, etc, then get in touch and let us know and we can schedule you a slot where you take the floor!

For this week (and for future weeks too if it proves popular) we have a particular idea - we would like to hear from a winner of the community-run Speed Model challenge here on this forum.

What we would like is if that winner could find one area of the speed modeling challenge they won that they could demo and explain - so we don't need to see you recreate the whole project, but perhaps you had a great way of quickly making a complex shape, or maybe a speedy trick to making arrays of objects.

We think it would be fun and educational to share this sort of a demo from a Speed Modeling winner, and get to see some of how those amazing images were produced in such short time.

So, if you are a previous Speed Modeling winner and would like to do this, please get in touch (thomas@caligari.com again!).

Also, if you have an interesting project, or tip, or new tool you have made, or just a cool object, also get in touch, as Show and Tell is open to the community!

Last week's meeting was great, this one should be even more fun, so I am really looking forward to it.

We'll see you there!

Tom

I really hope people are signing up for this tonight. I had a blast last week. I would love to watch a couple of other people speed model tonight. It definitely is all in good fun so there is absolutely no reason to be shy about it.

So I hope people are stepping up. Speed modeling live is a very novel idea and I would love to see this keep going. The speed modeling thread on the forums is a big hit, it seems to me that speed modeling live should be an even bigger hit.

I would like to do it but I am a little intimidated to model in front of everyone. Maybe a little in the future.

I think Kate and 3dfrog are going to give it a go next week. That should be fun. Woohooo! :D

Well guys, I actually was there in the tpportal meetingroom earlier (4:15-5 PM Caligari time) but via truePlay1.3 not trueSpace, and for an interesting reason... I discovered yesterday I can create my own scenes for truePlay1.3 and script my own objects now to use as direct links to any portal on either server... I was testing that and it worked just fine.:D

I also discovered I can now script my own objects to launch any external program whatsoever while I am in truePlay1.3, which means (if your imagination is as wild as mine) we can all now create our own immersive desktop launching programs and run them full screen via truePlay1.3.

New Development Field for us all you think? I certainly do!:D

Anyway, Stan and I finally got to say more than "Hi!" to each other, in fact we talked 3D and Scripting for about 2 and 1/2 hours I think, and that was absolutely great. Yet another purpose of truePlay being fulfilled outside the room where the rest of you were busy enjoying the big show.

Great night for all of us.

The experience of Stan and I outside is something for others here to consider too, because there will always be events which all of us could attend but which might interest some of us a little less than others, and I would encourage everyone to still attend any such events outside at least on occasion themselves for a bit, you never know who you might meet there and how interesting chance meetings may become for you as well.:)

Sorry I couldn't make it last night, problems with my Dad. Kinda-sorta broke his neck when he fell....he is 91 years old but is doing ok.

Can someone give us a quick update of what went on inside the Thursday Night Meeting Place?

Dele kicked my butt in speed modeling :(
Were about a dozen folks there.
We had some fun with the SmartieMod object.
Little bit of scripting was happening.
Tom was typing like a madman in the chat window.
There was a new version of the layout for meeting room.
Prodigy's trophy was in the display case.
We got two contestants for next weeks speed modeling contest.
I had a headlight in my spray bottle but Dele still kicked my butt :)

Thanks Frootee, that event blind sided me.

Thanks for the update Norm!

From your synopsis may I assume Dele "Kicked Your Butt"?:D

Wish I was there.

Yep Dele sure kicked my butt :D
In all fairness, his spray bottle was pretty slick and the better modeler won for sure :)

Well, I don't know that I kicked his butt. I spent all my time making the actual model. Norm on the other hand went for a more inventive method and added an actual light on the top of his. Leave it to Norm to think outside the box. :)

Yeah, it was great fun. I really hope people start getting into the live speed modeling. It really is fun, and I think that type of thing will only get more and more popular in the future.

Sorry to hear about your Dad Steinie. I hope he recovers quickly.
