Hi, I just saw the new caligari offer with realm crafter. I checked out the realm crafter site and it looks like a really cool product. I have made one little game and started another, but to be able to make a mmorpg! wow!
Does anyone have experience with realm crafter? I started my last game with fps creator. The engine is very slow and the ai is kinda bad. Does realm crafter make good games. Basically what I would want to do is make the art and use the easy to use tools to make a simple game.
Does anyone know what file formats realm crafter uses? I can't find anything on their site.
It seems you can't access the realm crafter forums unless you buy it :(
Anyway, I can't afford the caligari offer right now, but am interested in realm crafter for the future.
Thanks! |

Hi,
I just ordered Realm Crafter and I'm waiting to try it out (for some reason my "downloadable" purchase is taking 2 days to get here... )
Anyway, I know that forum member Eagle, aka Vickie Eagle (http://www.caligari.com/news/news_june2006/cpcp3.html), is our resident Realm Crafter expert. She may have some pointers on what formats RC uses.
Otherwise, by tomorrow I'll have my copy and I can give you more info.

Vickie Eagle would be the one to give the best run down of that, you might want to post over on the gS forums as she may check there more often than here. She used Realm Crafter and gameSpace, and took second place in a "make a MMORPG" contest with that combination. She also got a job with Solstar Games (makers of Realm Crafter) based on her work too.
Not 100% sure of the workflow in terms of getting items into Realm Crafter out of gS - my guess is X format is probably the one that is used. I do plan on taking a look at the exact workflow between the two products myself to explore the details :) Vickie never seems to have any problem or issue getting her gS created assets into her Realm Crafter game though.
HTH!

Well, it's not my top priority now. I have accident reconstruction stuff i'm learning right now. But my friend is going to hire me to do models for him for his forensic animation business after i get a few more cars together to show him. Unfortunately it is not in truespace, but I have many plans for truespace including games.
The problem right now with truespace directx format is that when I import or export directx from truespace the models are not there. It shows that they are there in the scene editor and it shows it is there in the panels in fragmotion but there is nothing in the work area. Same thing when I try truespace directx models in darkbasic pro. Has anyone else experienced this? I dont know why the model isn't there. Does the gamepak use a different way of making directx models? maybe it works in there. I don't think i need gamepak though. my darkbasic pro uses directx.
It will be very cool if caligari makes directx export from the workspace side with the new bones animation. Then I will be in heaven. |

I found that realm crafter has a demo. It does import directx yay! I wish I could build a level though and see how it runs but the demo is limited. I checked out eagle's interview and web page. She is so talented. Cool stuff. |

Oops my bad. I just tested some directx models. When I imported them in truespace they were just placed out of site but they were there. I tested it a long time ago, I thought the models didn't appear guess i was wrong. So all is good. Animation and bones isnt importing though. I'll see if it exports, that is more important. |

ok i rtfm lol. I wasn't setting the settings for the importer or exporter. I still have trouble importing animations and the bones were all over the place when i imported them. The exporter seems to work fine. I exported the mech model from the scene that comes with ts. The only thing id it seperates all the animations into step move and turet. I guess thats just the way the animation is set up. Put how do I combine them for export to one complete animation?
wow i am posting a lot today. |
