In the quieter Bugs forum I saw something mentioned unofficially it seemed about Vray 1.52 versions available for download now and in the recent past. I'm not sure now which version of Vray I have installed, possibly I installed an older version/build of Vray 1.52?
Can I get advice please on:
How to tell which version of Vray I have installed, for future reference
Is it possible to uninstall Vray and reinstall another version without coming a cropper?
I might have misunderstood but always best to check than make assumptions

Not sure how to tell what version is installed.
To re-install:
- Remove VRay for tS in the windows control panel.
- Reboot PC
- Install VRay for tS
- Reboot pc. |

Caligari Download area...
Vray1.521 Installation File
Ooh look there's a 1 after the 2. What does this mean :)
Does it mean the black edge is fixed that's what we're all wondering... please

Thanks Bobbins
I checked the executable's Properties (right-click on Vray152.exe) and I see the version installed here right now is 1.52.0.0
Which is very good news as the version on Caligari's server right now appears to be Vray 1.521 :) (should show up as 1.52.1.0 from Properties/Version)
A couple of us had that nasty black edge problem on the version we'd earlier downloaded, this explains it we hope and thanks to Tom for bringing this to our attention

Now there seems to be some confusion.... here is what happened.
1. Emails went out to all V-Ray owners about the release of V-Ray 1.52. The emails had direct links to download the new version.
The Downloads area was NOT updated - the version in there was the previous version.
2. Users report black edges in their transparency.
3. A user tries to download from the Downloads area and reports on the forum that he still has V-Ray 1.51, and asks about this.
4. V-Ray 1.52 was placed into the Downloads area, which it should have been when the emails were sent out in 1 above.
Nothing was changed in the code. No fixes for black edges were made. This is the same version of V-Ray as you downloaded from your direct email link.
So, as far as I know the black edges issue is not fixed. If you downloaded from the email link, downloading now from Repeat Downloads doesn't get you a different version. Just that some people did not get their emails, went to Downloads, and wondered why they still have V-Ray 1.51, and that was what was fixed.
I would suggest testing troublesome scenes to double check whether you are still experiencing the problem, but my guess is those of you seeing the black edges are the same people who had downloaded from their email link, so you will be downloading the same version now from Repeat Downloads.
Do let me know to confirm whether you are still seeing this problem, but unfortunately I think you will be.
HTH,

Don't worry Tom I can see now that the Caligari team is aware of the black edge problem, that's good enough for me I'm sure it'll get fixed and maybe in an update. We've got the no-black-edge earlier version for finished renders/images and I've got a bit to do before I'll need the fixed version
I was going to report that I uninstalled Vray 1.52 and installed Vray 1.521 (filename on Caligari's site) but the version is still 1.52, which makes sense in the light of your report above - thanks Tom no harm done

I'd say that the 1.521 is a typo where someone inserted the 2 and forgot to delete the 1 ;)

Yes Jack and that extra 1 (minor minor build change) was a red rag to the bugged bull :)
Very happy I am even with the current Vray, I'm leaving out the window panes for now is all until the new build is out. I'm getting a minute and a half per frame. Which is nice :)
