Hi Caligari.
I've been asking about animated texture support via VRay for TrueSpace 7.5 for a while now and it hasn't happened yet. Here I am again asking but I do have a reason for asking this time.
Not sure if you saw it, but using TrueSpace 5, I created my first movie project a while back called Dragon Quest. I'm fairly pleased with it too. Well, that gave me the bug... The movie project bug!
I'm currently in the planning phase of a brand new movie project and this one's a hell of a lot bigger then Dragon Quest was. But I'm a very big user of animated textures and this project will be no exception. I have two 3D packages which I'm working on learning at the moment; TrueSpace 7.51 and Lightwave 8. Only for the fact that Lightwave's UI is so different to what I'm use to with TrueSpace, I'd be a lot more along with knowing it's in's and out's, but as it stands, I'm kind of on level ground with both packages at the moment. And what's the best way to learn a new package... Use it! LOL!
So my next movie project is going to made in one of these two. Both have their pro's and con's and one of TrueSpace 7.5's con's is no animated texture support via VRay.
Now, I don't own VRay and of course, TrueSpace 7.5 does come with it's own renderers, but I recall the movies I saw of VRay at work and the speed of it floored me. And that's what I want, speed in the rendering department. Lightwave current offers this (pro) but I'm not as up on working with it as I am with TrueSpace (con for Lightwave, pro for TrueSpace). My next movie project is going to be a long one so a lot of rendering will be done.
All I want to know at the moment is are you planning to implement animated texture support into VRay for TrueSpace 7.5 or will this feature not be available till a later TrueSpace release? I've not picked my 3D package for this project yet, this is an information gathering question on one of the important consideration questions. I appreciate that companies don't give out their time tables, what they're working on in R&D, etc., but can you just at least confirm if TrueSpace 7.5 will get animated textures rendering with VRay or is this on the list of features for a future TrueSpace release? |

Paul this is kind of a support question since it's related to a project so it might be that you'd be able to get a private response from support@caligari.com or via phone call, where as a public response probably wouldn't be coming anytime soon unless you get a reply directly from Roman.

BTW, Paul if you can export your AVI's as individual frames, Dele released a script that will automate the updating of the texture to show image frames in sequence. It's not quite as easy as loading an AVI file and clicking render, but could be a workable solution for you.

I think this is another short "to do" point for the 69 thread.
I will do that today along with some of our most wanted features
"layered textures " for VRAY.
I Think it should be in "one" area so Roman knows what " high priority
is for some of us.It would be nice if all the people who want it too
join in and say so too !:) |

Hi Jack.
I am aware of this script, thanks, but I haven't seen it in action. How much work in involved in getting an animated texture to work this way, and will it work with multiple objects having animated textures, and one object, having different animated textures on each surface and not just one over the whole object? |

Rayman, can you give a link to this 69 thread in question please. I'm not sure I'm looking at the right thread. |

Paul its the 69 captains thread.
I already posted about it yesterday !http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=3699
So if you want to make a comment .... I think some new functionality
for vray should have high priority!;)
Read my post about Kerkythea ...... it has mor functionality then Vray
has and it is free. |

I haven't worked with it since I haven't needed animated textures yet, so you'll have to ask Dele. From what I understand you can rename the script object so you can add as many of them as you need and animate as many different textures as you want as well as linking the script objects to handle longer animations.

Thanks, Rayman, that was the thread I was looking at but it seemed to have moved over to colaborative talk and wasn't sure. I've added my voice for VRay animated textures.
Thanks, Jack. I'll contact Dele to get the run down on this. |
