Scripting Live! Tuesday September 4th 5:00pm PST
Well folks, Tuesday night is coming around again and is already looking like it's going to be a very interesting meeting for everyone.:D
Whether you're excited by Scripting Development or not, this is one Tuesday Night Meeting you definitely shouldn't miss!
Several great new developments are a big part of this particular meeting and should make the entire experience very enjoyable for us all.
(1) Roman is coming this time!:)
And in case you missed Roman's recent message to ~all~ Community Scriptors here:
I pledge to give you continued support and even better scripting tools soon. Once we have a growing collection of ever more usefull script objects, the rest of trueSpace cumunity will realize the potential of this promise for them.
http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showpost.php?p=45716&postcount=27
So if you are currently a Scriptor in this Community, or you are planning to become one at some point, come join us here Tuesday night to discuss "all things script related" together and with Roman.
These are extremely exciting times here lately with a huge number of recent development breakthroughs, excellent new script tools from many Community Developers here, a brand new "1st Immersive Environments Competition," and this great new "Scripting Live!" weekly Tuesday night truePlace Meetingroom event.
Truly great developments are breaking out all over in this Community right now, so now is the perfect time to join with us all in this very fast paced and exciting development fun!
Come to share, come to learn, come to question, or come to enjoy, whatever your motivation is, just be sure not to miss this one!
2) An entirely new presentation format is making it's debut this Tuesday night!
I have developed a new "3DVD Kiosk" which you are all going to see and use for the first time at this meeting. Here's why:
Each "3DVD Kiosk" at this meeting will have:
A) A unique title and image on it depicting at a glance what it refers to.
B) A clickable scripted link which will open your default web browser to a new online page specific to the "Meeting Keypoint" of that particular Kiosk.
C) Those new online pages will have additional specifically related info, links, and instructions pertaining to that particular Kiosk's "Meeting Keypoint."
D) Among the links on each of these new online pages will be a ~crystal clear~ downloadable online MP3 Audio Message File which you can listen to at the live meeting as well as any other time convenient for you. Each of these audio files will be less than 1 meg in size, but that allows for a great deal of detailed voice-based information to be conveyed within each file.
E) The use of these "3DVD Kiosks" will completely circumvent current audio issues we've been encountering recently in our larger group meetings!
Since the "Meeting Keypoints" of the entire presentation will be downloadable in MP3 files by those attending the meeting, everyone there will be listening to the same subject matter without missing a single word and be "on exactly the same page" so to speak when we all start to chat together about these things via truePlace audio or text chat.
F) Since these audio files are not located on Caligari Servers there will be no related bandwidth issues for Caligari when many attendees simultaneously download these files from links available at the meeting.
G) Those of us in the Caligari Community Worldwide who are in timezones inconvenient to the live meeting time will be able to access these same files anytime they wish after the conclusion of the meeting. Perhaps we can begin a new reference library of them all at some point in the future as well.
3) The meeting will start an hour earlier than the last two, beginning at 5:00 pm Pacific Standard Time!
This should provide more people with an opportunity to attend, and who knows when it will be over... that will be entirely up to you!
4) There will be two primary themes to that portion of the meeting where I will be the main speaker and they will be:
"Developing Worlds Together" The Vital Roles of Scripting
and
"TruePlay and TrueServe as Commercial Vehicles for us all"
So whether you know lots about Scripting or nothing at all about Scripting, there will be plenty to discover and discuss there which could definitely have an impact on you in the months ahead!
5) Since the new "3DVD Kiosk" method will be employed in this meeting for the first time, you won't have to listen to me talk live at all if you don't want to!:D
Beyond that, since most of what I have to say will be inside those MP3 Audio files we'll all be listening to at the meeting, we will all have much more of an opportunity to talk with each other throughout the meeting rather than have to listen to me rant and rave about how excited I am about all this stuff!:D
6) 15 Minute Presentation - then open discussion until the next Speaker! Instead of me being finished and ready for the next Speaker at 6:30pm which I had anticipated before the development of the new "3DVD Kiosks," I should be able to give you all an audio overview of what the Kiosks have to offer you, and be ready to chat with you all about fifteen minutes later right up until the next Speaker wishes to start his or her presentation!
7) As for that "Next Speaker" and who else will be on the schedule, that I leave to Frootee to tell you about! With so many truly talented Scriptors here, I'm sure he'll have more great things in store for you as well!
See you all there folks, this will be fun!:D

trueSpace7.5 Demo User Instructions
If you are someone reading this thread trying to see how to make your new trueSpace7.5 Demo program connect to the truePlaces Portal where this Tuesday Meeting will be held, just follow the instructions carefully on the following page.
http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showpost.php?p=43977&postcount=30 (http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showpost.php?p=43977&postcount=30)
The whole process is explained there along with images to help you do this for the first time.
If you have any difficulty with that you can still use truePlay1.3 ( http://www.caligari.com/products/trueSpace/ts75/Brochure/truePlaces.asp?SubCate=S2forum (http://www.caligari.com/products/trueSpace/ts75/Brochure/truePlaces.asp?SubCate=S2forum) ) to go right to the online Forum just outside the Meetingroom. When you arrive at that Forum you will immediately see a horizontal link bar in front of you with several room designations depicted there as icons. We will all be in the "Meetingroom" and the icon for that is on that linkbar.
See you there, this will be fun!:D

Ok folks,
Just to give you a hint on some of the presentation material you'll find at this meeting, here's a little glance at "3DVD Kiosk" Number 1:
"3DVD Kiosk Number 1" will be one of the kiosks present which is dedicated to the theme "Developing Worlds Together" The Vital Roles of Scripting.
This particular highly-detailed MP3 audio speech presentation will cover an entirely new genre of truePlay Development which NO ONE HERE has yet begun to develop... utilizing extremely large 3D Worlds of our own design on our own computers and on CDR's to create tremendously immersive and interactive new Immersive Desktop Launchpad and Operating System Shells.
These can now be developed together and shared together by us all in the months ahead, and we can each create commercial applications for truePlay with these methods as well, and very easily.:D
This audio will also be accompanied by several web links taking you to sites and pages demonstrating some of the truly magnificent galleries and examples which currently exist in this new Immersive Desktop Development genre, only the things we can create with trueSpace for truePlay far exceed these current examples due to the genuine immersiveness and interactivity which we can now bring to our own scenes via Caligari tools. A bright future is not only coming for us all in this regard, it has definitely arrived.
Again... this is one Tuesday Meeting you really should not miss.;)

Thanks for letting us all know ProfessorKhaos, hopefully we can all talk with you there next week then.
The Trackmaker project of yours is going to have one heck of an awesome impact on this Community real soon, all eyes are on it already you can be sure!:D
Personally I'd really love to see some of this Community's genuine longstanding Scriptors such as yourself take on an hour or two in one of these meetings as a Speaker, I'd like nothing more than to hear the thoughts and see the work of you guys live in there some night soon.
When tonights meeting is over there will be pre-recorded MP3 format audio files covering the primary meeting keypoints (for my portion of the meeting anyway), and I'll make them available along with a scripted RsObj Kiosk model which will also activate the related weblinks specific to each keypoint. I'll probably start a new thread for that purpose so others utilizing the same method can make them available as a library for those unable to attend a given meeting. I just wish someone started doing that a long time ago!
Hope to see you next week then!

Hey 3dV! Waddup Man? This meeting tonight is gonna rock! So let me ask you this; do we just login and click on each of the kiosk items to download and listen to the MP3's, and add comments via chat?

Froo
Exactly!
I whipped this up for a few reasons, the most important being that I wanted to hear what Roman had to say in his last two "Live Blogs" on "Thursday Night Live" and hardly heard a complete sentence on either occasion. This method, if employed by Roman or any one of us, will completely eliminate that problem for everyone present at these meetings.
My other primary reason was that I think we should use this method at every meeting, to some extent at least, so that the keypoints of each meeting will be available for others of us in the Caligari Community who reside in time zones which prevent us from easily attending these meetings. If we all do this together, there will be a large repository of related downloadable MP3 Audio Files which will build very rapidly and prove to be an invaluable reference source for all of us in the months and years ahead.
So... "yep!"
(1) Just show up
(2) find a kiosk that looks like it may be interesting to you
(3) click the blue button and your default web browser will open to a related page with a link to the online MP3 format file you can either stream into your audio player software (I'll be doing that with Winamp:D ) or download to your hard drive and listen to so you'll know exactly what we are all talking about when you close your browser window and join us in related group chat in the Caligari truePlace Meetingroom live!
(4) links to related sites or galleries or images will also be on the page dedicated to each kiosk subject in addition to the MP3 Audio Message link.
Simple!:)

Hi there
There's no way these things could be record for others like myself who can't attend.
I would love to be there but it's just not possible and the times are usually not good for me.
Good luck though and keep up all the good work!!!

Sure Stan!
If someone who already understands trueSpace Scripting well (whoever that may be) creates what I asked for three weeks ago here in the following thread (see Item # 3 and Item # 8 there) this would have been the case tonight.
http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=3830
Maybe next week?

My pleasure Ambrose. It's really something we all need, but especially those of us living outside the USA such as yourself. There's no way around time zone conflicts unless we take an approach similar to that which I'm taking tonight, but as long as we take some measures like this into consideration at all our meetings the time zone conflicts will be at least partially irrelevent.
I'll be posting a new thread tomorrow here with links to the presentation audio files as well as the related online pages pertaining to each.
Glad to hear somebody thinks it's a good idea!:)
Thanks,

Thanks Froo
My $^%$&*% ISP "Service" disruptions in my neighborhood today are driving me nutz!!!! It took me 20 minutes here to get back on to respond to Stan and Ambrose in spite of the Forum server here showing me as logged in!
ARGH.....
This may happen again, and again, and again today... hopefully it will be resolved very soon, I have lots to do online later today as you know!
In the meantime my blazing fast cable connection here has dropped down to about 300 baud! LOL Makes me feel like I'm back in the old Telenet days! LOL
SO hey, if you spot something today that you know I would normally respond fast to like you did above.... feel free to jump right in and run with it!:D
I DO appreciate that.;)

OK folks...
this meeting turned out to be very interesting indeed. It turns out that the code I lifted from the truePlay default scene has a lot more power than any of us understood before.... thanks to Norm for that cool discovery!
Here's the link to that webpage and MP3 file for those who were unable to attend, if you find the subject interesting as some of us here do, feel free to use this thread to discuss it. We can always have a meeting right here!:D

Ok... had plenty of food, a cup of java, and I'm back in the saddle again.:D
A few very cool things surfaced at tonight's meeting... many interesting things were tossed back and forth there pretty rapidly both in voice and text chat and some pretty amazing revelations came to light in the process. The most important to me tonight being the sheer (previously unrealized) power available to us all in our own interactive scene development through the many uses of a script command called "WScript.Shell" Just Google it.:D
I had already placed this command inside the "3DVD Kiosk1" object to activate a default web browser and aim it at a specific online page, and I also already understood that this particular command can open any desired program on one's computer or any "path/filename.extension" target within it's default associated program (I had already successfuly tested that), but tonight I found it has enormous power well beyond the scope of those uses as well. When utilized within scripted objects inside truePlay Desktop Scenes it can do some truly amazing stuff indeed!:D
You will find that script command used in context within the following attached zipfile. That zipfile contains the "3DVD_Kiosk1.RsObj" scripted TS7.51 object identical to the one we used tonight in truePlace Meetingroom.
To see the actual script just drill down in the object via the LE until you see the title "Simple Script," and drilling that you will see the command and variations in context within the SE (Script Editor - it will open automatically) along with relevant usage comments.
A word of caution:
This particular command should not be played with in experimental fashion at all unless you are very sure of the probable result of activating it in new ways. Changing target programs and/or target files pointed to within it is fine whether online or offline, but this is a powerful command and beyond those simple changes could produce genuinely disasterous results if used improperly. If you want to experiment with it, research it first carefully. Also, if you are an "Absolute Script Newbie" like me, remember that if you change any part of that script to test it be sure to hit the SE icon for "check syntax and commit" before leaving the SE or saving that object for future use.
Enjoy folks,

Last night a few folks who downloaded the MP3 Audio Message from that weblink had some difficulty adequately hearing the message and that problem was likely due to using default web browser audio plugins to listen to the file right from it's online source. There is a much better way to have complete audio spectral control and volume control well beyond the capabilities of various web browser audio plugins... do what I do, it's free and excellent... just save the file to your local hard drive and then open it up in WINAMP.
Winamp and some other audio players have an option to load a file right from a URL and stream it into the player in realtime, but in many cases this is not the best way to go due to the fact that lots of places online which host such audio files have a stream detection routine built into their site code which will spot streams and truncate them in mid stream to discourage this practice. The place where I currently store my MP3's online is no exception either, so it's always best to save an online MP3 to disk and then load it in your Player of choice from there.

Very cool stuff you were doing last night in the LE Norm! I learned quite a lot from you last night as you were poking around in there and I noticed no one was typing at all... for an hour or so... they were all listening and watching, and how often does that happen at meetings? LOL
If you're headed to the meetingroom now I'll see you there now!:D

Excellent!!!
I went back there to try to hook up with you after your meeting but I missed you, tried again 4 hours later but it was too late as well.
I'll go have a look now, that was facinating to do with you in there and hopefully we can both find the same time to do something similar again soon. I really enjoyed that.
Thanks,
I'll go check it out in the LE right now!:D
