Hi
This shader have been recommended before as a toons shader:
http://tsx.uvworx.com/toon.html
Of course, I didn't download it when I first got the link. Now, the URL seams dead. Does anyone have a link to where I might get hold of this?
Best regards

You're in luck!
Check at http://web.archive.org/web/20070320055429/tsx.uvworx.com/toon.html
I've used the web archive with varying levels of success to recover content from sites that don't exist in the wild anymore. Sometimes the downloads are there, sometimes they're not. In this case, it is.

I also released my toon up pro plugin for free a long time ago. I assume it still works on newer versions of tS.

Yes, it works.
It even seems more stable than u|v toon.
It is faster also.
But as stated in the help files, toon up pro does not handle straight lines well. It is more an organic-oriented shader.
In other words, if you want to render a cartoon character in animation, you will use toon up pro ; and if you want to render technical drawings, you will choose u|v toon. |

Just to compare, here is a render with the two shaders, in their default settings. |

Yeah, I always admired Urban's projects, especially when he managed to solve something I couldn't :P
toon up pro does have the inker post-proc shader though, which can handle straight edges. I can't remember exactly how u|v toon operates right now, but I believe he does some actual geometric edge detection, which would explain the speed and stability issues - and also explains why it looks so good.
Unfortunately, that link appears to be a corrupt zip, I can't unpack it :| |

Yes, u|v toon crashes come on edge detection : tS just frezes on some geometries when LW is set to RayCast -but not on every case, I still didn't found the cause-. The crashes do not occur on ScanLine mode though.
If the zip on archive.org is corrupted, I think I should add that fantastic shader on the tsx archive page (http://emmanuel.asset.free.fr/tsxarchive/index.htm)... one more upload  |

By the way, the inker is the key feature I am looking for in a toon shader. So I like to see how it looks in the material preview.
An inker as post-process would not show in that window... One more argument in favor of u|v toon :p |
