Hey folks. Just a friendly reminder that the next Scripting Live! event is happenin Tomorrow night! Check this page for the countdown clock:

http://www.caligari.com/ScriptLive.asp

Lots more cool stuff is happening. 3dvisuals dude has some more cool stuff to show: think: Dance Fever!

He and trublue were working last night on something else; we did some testing; 3dv and I both got stuck when using FPN! But those issues are being worked. It's partially working so if you want to see what I'm talking about come tomorrow night!

In my experimentation with teleporters, timers, and enabling/disabling FPN in my own time, I ended up reinstalling truespace a couple times since suddenly I was getting crashes on startups but hey, that comes with experimentation!

Hope to see you there,

Froo

Frootee,

Stupid Question from me but restoring to default context doesn't fix the problem and you have to do a full reinstall?

LOL... "dance fever" indeed!!! LOL

Folks reading this all should bear in mind that "we crash so you won't have to" is one of our mottos in there! Hahahaha! We often volunteer to be each other's test subjects in there and hey... accidents happen! LOL

You never know what someone may bring to one of these "Scripting Live!" events on Tuesdays, we're all in there to share and learn together, and sometimes some pretty amazing things develop out of all that open collaboration online.

Who knows? Maybe YOU have an idea who's time has come? Many ideas never occurr to us until we are all together in that environment, so we've all learned accordingly to pay close attention in there to everything people mention, even in passing. Sometimes "the little things" that get said in there prove to be momentously valuable and vital aspects to trueSpace or truePlay Development work, so your input may well be more valuable to us all than you may imagine. Don't let a lack of experience with Scripting or trueSpace hold you back, you may not grasp everything that goes on in these meetings (I don't!) but you will learn new things and have fun no matter what!

And yes.... we do have a few "surprises" for you every Tuesday.:D

See you there!

Well Steinie if that's a stupid question (although it's not) I have one that's even dumber: How do you restore default context? 3dv told me how before but I forgot and lost the link to the instructions! Doh!

BTW 3dv... did trueblue UnGlue you? I.e. did you get unstuck out of that thing?

LOL

Actually there was no way he could, I think it was because the timer used last night utilizes a "Session" aspect which you can see if you look at the timer in it's "Exp" aspect. That made it so I had to exit, open trueSpace in it's "Default Context," exit trueSpace and then return normally.

First I tried just hitting Default Context icon after exiting and without exiting trueSpace before returning to shared space, but the effect was I returned to the same locked position and state!

The solution in the first paragraph above worked fine though.

Perhaps we need to utilize a timer which itself doesn't utilize Session aspects.

What did Edison say about finding 1200 incorrect ways to make a carbon fillament lamp work but only needing to find 1 correct way?:D

He did it after all... so will we.

Fun times these.:D

Frootee, reset to default icon is hidden with the new scene icon..

a better alternate is to save backups of your default.ctx , if you use any custom layouts its the only way back quickly after some crashes..

While you're here Stan, I wonder if you can help me with something here.

Is there a way to have a clickable link transort you from inside one scene in FPN to another scene in FPN while you are offline?

Seems do-able, but I'm having trouble figuring out the right script to do it.

I think the problem is once you leave one space you leave the script too..you probably need an auto-on script for the fpn in the space you enter or a trigger in other words..

Here is a Scene Trigger that when triggered in FPN mode loads a scene from your hard drive or CD/DVD.
Should be easy to understand how to use.
The trigger is hooked to a flat circle with the Render Attributes adjusted to show only vertices/points. The circle of points represents the Active Radius which is set at 5. This is just an approximation and if you change the Active Radius and or the Scale then this would not be valid anymore. It's only purpose is to give you a visual aid when placing into your scene. There is also Trigger - Invisible check box to hide it.
Instructions:
Load and place the Scene Trigger into your scene. Use the file dialog button to navigate to your scene that you want loaded once triggered in FPN mode.

Awesome!!!

This is a delightful surprise! I was thinking it might not even be possible for the same reason Stan stated above, and here you already went and made it!

Incredible trueBlue, this is the singlemost important development for that new truePlay Immersive Dekstop Shell I was talking about since Dele invented the teleporters! You're making some truly amazing stuff lately!

Thanks a million, I can't wait to start playing with this one now!:D

Ok folks...

Somehow I think the truly difficult work being done behind the scenes on trueSpace and truePlay scripting development just doesn't get realized enough by folks here in the community... I mean there are some very serious efforts underway by quite a few folks here to bring some incredible new developments to the community, and half of them I'm not even at liberty to discuss!

One of these I've been referring to for some time here now though, and although we are very near a breakthrough on it now the final key isn't yet in hand. Nevertheless, since so very much time and effort has gone into this particular effort I'm referring to now, I've decided to award the key person in that effort with a directly related gift... then perhaps a few more folks here in the community will begin to truly realize just how significant some of these upcoming developments really will be, and very soon indeed.

We're not there quite yet on this one but victory is so close it is becoming visible with defineable features. In the meantime here's my way of saying thanks for all the truly hard work that's going into this effort every day now.

The RsObj file in zipped form follows the images below. Note that the render is done with Vray materials but the object in the zipfile has simple DX9 materials, but the one in this zipfile is a high-poly version for offline use. This one isn't scripted for actual flight yet, but when the script is finally ready it will be one genuinely amazing ride!!!:D

Thanks Frootee,

Man, there just aren't words to describe how fantastic this is.

I imported your object here and placed it in a blank workspace scene, went into the LE and had a look under the hood, modified the path and filename to point to a real RsScn file I call "Tahiti" on my hard drive (my virtual vacation spot), stepped into the blank Workspace scene in First Person Navigation, and ran at the trigger as fast as I could....

Know what happened?

I ran right into a palm tree in Tahiti!!!!!!!!

I am SO Lovin' this!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for making the time to figure this one out for us all trueBlue, you know that expression that "big things come in little packages," and although this may seem like a little thing to some people I can tell you in all honesty it's one of the very biggest things to have happened for me since I got here.

With this one new trigger of yours we will all now be able to seamlessly interconnect every scene file we have on our home computers and home networks and walk between them as though we were taking a Sunday stroll. You just turned everybody's scenes here in this Community into actual "virtual worlds" with one mighty little script.

What a fantastic achievement.

My hat's off to you Sir.

Thank you.

Why Thank You Mark! Thank You Very Much Indeed!

I'd also like to say thanks to trueblue, stan, Emma, and Asem for their input and solutions to this. We as a team are almost there.

I followed trueblue's suggestion for selecting and activating the desired camera this morning. It works!

Trueblue: I went to the meeting room but could not find the object and camera to which you referred.

Interesting item of note: Regular cameras have an OwnerMatrix, but the FPN node in the D3DView does not. But that's okay. We can switch to other cameras instead.

You are most welcome Sir.

As for those who assist you in your determined quest for viable solutions on this particular "Scripted Flyer Development Project," please keep a list of all who have helped in any way toward achieving this objective.

When we have accomplished this objective I intend to design a new and unique "Flyer" for every single individual who has contributed to the endeavor at the time of it's success, in both a high-poly offline version and a low-poly online version.

When we have tackled this goal we can then have some related races and dogfights, as well as set up games involving team squadron objectives in online shared space.

Each contributor will have an awesome and utterly unique "Flyer" in it's own right, and we'll all know who each of you are from a glance at your new craft as you buzz over and around us at tremendous speeds in your new Shared Space Airshows!:D

We're almost there now, and one very big party that day will be!

Thanks to all who participate, together you are making Shared Space a genuinely wonderful place to interactively experience for us all.

I've been so busy lately that I haven't been able to keep up on all the things you guys are up to. I've been trying to peek in here and there though. Sounds like everyone is making new headway with scripting. That's great.

Well it's Tuesday night again soon here, and an interesting night it will be.

I'll be arriving early and staying late, I will be there starting at 5:00 PM Pacific Standard Time, an hour ahead of the countdown clock's 6:00 PM PST target.

It is my sincere hope that many in the Scripting Development Community here will show up tonight and have some fun in open discussion with us all. Toward that end I have no set schedule of events or announcements tonight whatsoever, and anyone is free to bring and/or discuss any Development Project or Development Concept they may desire to share tonight.

This is not to say there have been no major accomplishments or breakthroughs in Development work during this last week, on the contrary, there have been quite a few, with trueBlue's new FPN Scene Loading Trigger which he just shared with us all in this thread being a very clear example of that fact!

There are quite a few folks whom I haven't seen there on a Tuesday night meeting yet, such as SteveBe, Johny, ProfessorKhaos, and many others here who I would very much like to have the pleasure of meeting in that particularly appropriate environment. Hopefully some may surprise us tonight by dropping in or perhaps even sharing with us all some work they are currently developing, I do hope they all realize how much we value their contributions to this Community and view them all with genuine admiration.

There must be at least a dozen Development topics which I alone could bring up here tonight, but this meeting is not about me at all, it's about all of us together.

So please, bring your projects, your questions, your discoveries, your ideas, and your dreams with you tonight, and lets explore them all together and see what we can each do to help each other develop new and better things for us all in the week ahead.

Thanks to all who have joined us so far on Tuesday nights, your presence and participation is shaping this weekly event into something great for us all.

Let's have a blast tonight together!:D

Hi Délé!

Great to see you! You kind of suddenly vanished last Tuesday night leaving us all wondering what happened to you!

I do hope you can make it tonight, we have a whole bunch of fun stuff we're all working on and your input would be appreciated a lot!

Seems like everybody here is making something new and exciting now, and trueBlue is making lots of cool stuff now so fast I can't even keep up with him!

Great to see you again, I was afraid you were abducted by aliens or something! LOL:D

Hope to see you tonight,

Yeah, sorry about just dropping out last meeting. My computer kept freezing up for a few seconds, and then it would be fine for a few. It kept doing that so I logged off. It wasn't trueSpace that was causing it though. Still not sure what was going on. I rebooted a couple of times and then it was running fine again.

Since then I've just been busy. Haven't had much time for the forums other then peeking in here and there. I hope that I'll have more time here soon.

I will certainly try to swing by tonight for a bit. See what you guys have been up to. :)

Ouch! I am sorry to hear about the freeze problems but I'm glad to know your sudden departure last Tuesday night wasn't due to anything we might have said or done in there! We were having some really interesting talks after you left and I think we were all hoping you would suddenly pop back in there to join us in that. Freezing and crashes are a definite drag though, we all have them once in a while so we can definitely relate to that!

Well I do hope you can drop by tonight even if for a short while, seems kind of odd for us all to even have a Scriptors meeting without you being there, and I know I speak for everybody there when I say we'll look forward to seeing you if you can make it!

Should be a really fun night!

Hi folks,

This is just a reminder that tonight's Scripting Live! event will start in the truePlaces Meetingroom at 5:00 PM Pacific Standard Time and continue until we all decide to stop (usually several hours later).

I noticed that the Calendar here states it will begin and end at 7:00 PM, LOL, and that the Countdown Timer is set to 6:00 PM, so I thought this might be worth mentioning to prevent any related confusion.;)

You can show up anytime of course, we just hope you all do show up! It will be a fascinating night and the more of us involved the more fun it will be.

See you all there,

Countdown timer on the web page has been set to 5pm for the last couple of weeks, and its a PST server so it should be displaying the correct countdown. Anyone else seeing it as showing a 6pm PST time?

Thanks!
