Thankis Paul. No wonder that i was unable to play with this tool. It has a secret workflow. I would never had thought of holding down a key for this.

May i suggest to add a button at this grey place in the next TS version. I would even be satisfied with a normal Windows Button :D |

Tiles, that problem has already been brought up in other threads. Everyone didn't understand the logic for that one.
Cayenne, thanks for the Displacement Pdf, this is one tool I too wanted to explore and haven't yet. I'm glad you kick started us. |

Did not know that either (Ctrl), I thought it's a problem with the tool. |

@ steinie, yes its a tool id like more time to explore , i did start working a greyscale map a while back using layers in photoshop , but never gave myself time to go further with it ,..
heres a grab of the results so far.
in the pdf screen grabs the one with the alien type eggs shapes was a combined test for both displacement mapping and polygon stress during the beta cycles prior to release , i cant remember when they were done exactly , theres approx 2.2 million poly in that particular grab split over several objects, the planes also have a texture and normal map applied, i didnt push to see whether i could get more polys in the scene but will probably revisit the scenario again soon to see the limits on my machines. |

Hi Paul,
This is very nice, thanks!
A while back SteveBe posted a method of using "simplify" with normal maps to dramatically reduce polycounts without adversely effecting the desired realtime appearance of a distorted mesh in the following post: http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showpost.php?p=37797&postcount=14
Until he had showed us that feature here I had no idea of it's existance, so since that method makes some very large objects much smaller and hence more "shared space friendly" I thought I'd drop the link in here for reference.
I played a little with the Displacement Mapping Tool when I first got trueSpace7.5 and was very impressed by it's power. My plate has been so full since then with trying to learn nearly everything else that I haven't gotten back to the tool since then, but it has stayed in the back of my mind as something I'd like to experiment more with.
Now that you've created this tutorial for us all it will make that revisitation much better for me when I can finally get back to it! I guess I'm not alone on that either, I see you have 40 downloads already on this in just a few hours here!
Thank you for all your work on this and for sharing it with us all!
