Hi everyone
I had an idea that some of us who are interested in animating in truespace could get together in shared space once a week or biweekly to do animation projects and discuss animation. We could start off with basic object animation, say like our first meeting we could all make bouncing balls then discuss what we have done. Or we could try more interesting stuff if you like, depending on your skill level I guess. I am no animation pro, this is for all skill levels. Then when it is possible to use bones in shared space we can move on to more complex things. We can also dive into procedural animation, which I haven't tried yet, I'm not even positive what it means yet ;).
Maybe we can alternate on Thursdays with the thursday night live if everyone likes Thursdays. Or we can do another day, or weekends maybe so people with demanding jobs can make it too.
We can pick a topic each week then everyone can look into it and discuss it if people want to do that. The main thing is having fun learning something about animation.
So let me know if you're interested. Maybe we can even start this upcoming week.
Thanks |

I'd be willing to try to make it... but frankly the attempts so far to get any character animation going around here has been pretty poorly met :D I've seen at least 4 different attempts that got very little in replys or interest...
But I will try to make a meeting a month anyway...

Hi 3dFrog. Heck Yes I'm interested! I voted yes!
What time and day? the Shared Space (SS) is there for us to use; procedural animation is really cool stuff! I know some about it. The timer is your friend!
Thanks 3dfrog,

Yeah Rich. Not much animation going going on around here. I hope a club will spark some interest. Lots of people make cool models, now let's get them moving. :) It doesn't have to be character animation. We can have any type of moving things. character animation is intimidating to a lot of people I think, and the tools need a little work as of yet. So starting simple I think is the way to go.
I'm pretty open to any time. I noticed you aren't able to make it til late on a lot of meeting nights Frootee, would a weekend be better for you? Maybe we can make the meeting at 9 pm est, 6 pm pst, so the west coasters have an hour to get home from work and get there, yet it doesn't go too late for east coasters. If it's on the weekend we can have it any time of day I guess. If it was weekends and say in the afternoon maybe we can attract some overseas users too.
What do you think? |

Once I get a hang of the animation I'd be interested. I still have to
build a new computer, but I can study on the minimal kitchen
computer in the meantime.
This is so cool no other software can do this..... |

I may not have a lot to add yet but I sure do have a lot to learn!:p

I hope we can agree on a time that's good for everyone. Is the weekend ok for everyone? Say 12 noon pst, 3 pm est, 8 pm uk time (if I have the time zones right). How's Sunday? I know we all have family and friends to see on the weekends, but Sundays more chill out day anyway and maybe everyone can get a couple of hours in. |

I'm on PST, weekends would be fine for me. But I'm still working my way
through beginning modeling. |

How and what is the purpose of the meetings? Are we going to go over specific things, is there a planned agenda?
If you have a predefined agenda, we could record the meeting and than make the video available thru an FTP or bit torrent. This way we do not have to go crazy trying to accomaqdate everyone... at least till we start to get a flow going...
Or, I could just go back to my corner and keep my silly ideas to myself and do what you guys want :D

Yeah Rich, I would like to have some sort of agenda for the meetings. I have to test the shared space with keyframe editor with more than one person in it to see what's possible though. Hopefully we can all create stuff while we are in there. Otherwise we can prepare our animations beforehand and drop them in there and watch and discuss them. Say our first meeting is bouncing balls, we would watch the animations, discuss them, then go on to a more general discussion of animation. Maybe how to best utilize things like timing and squash and stretch and things like that. We can discuss the traditional way to do things and how we do it our own ways and whatnot. I am open to any suggestions on other things we can do.
I am glad there are some people interested. Looks like we have a club. So I haven't heard any objection to the time. As it is I'll assume 3 pm est is good unless I hear any objections. |

Just my two cents, I wanted to join but I promised my wife no Computers on Sunday. (Family Day and Football:) ). I still think the time you picked will work for everyone else here, so that's great. Good luck with it. |

weekend days are actually tougher for me; it's virtually impossible for me to be home; but if we can get other folks from around the globe at that time, all the better! :p
I'll drop in when I get a chance.
One thing we're trying to do with the scriptor meetings is to record a transcript of the presentations, or a video. One other thing Stan did (still have to ask him how; I'll do that right now), is record the entire chat session.

I think the idea is great! I can see a lot of good would come from this, no doubt.
I would not be able to join though due to church & family obligations, not to mention I'm stuck with dialup at home ( we may not have broadband, but the peace and quiet of the country makes up for it :D ) It's all I can do to make it to the #trueSpace channel a couple of evenings a week for an hour or two.
I applaude you for this effort and wish all you animators the best.

Ok lets scratch sundays, forgot about church and stuff. Is Saturday any better for anyone? If not we can alternate thursdays with thursday night live at the same time as that. I don't want to leave out the UKers but if no one can do weekends I don't know what else to do. Guess it's harder than I thought to pick a time. If anyone has any ideas what would be best I'd love to hear. |

My first choice Saturday anytime, second choice rotating Thursdays.
I'm not new to Cell Animation but TS bones etc I feel like a newborn. So I really like the idea of a "Club"
You've got to give it a name after a time is set. |

Hey classic, unfortunately we cant use bones in shared space so we cant see the banana dance in realtime, but if someone wants to make the dancing banana I'll put a movie of it on my web space so everyone can view it. Glad you'll be able to make it. You'll have a better understanding of the tools while we work in our meetings, I really encourage noobies to animation to join up, they will really benefit the most. I still consider myself pretty much a noobie but I picked up some stuff here and there.
I like Saturdays too, that's 2 for Saturday. Anymore votes? Yeah we need a catchy name. I was thinking Animation Brunch if we choose afternoons, although it won't be brunch for the uk so maybe that's not so good. Anyone have ideas for a name? |

Hi 3dfrog.
Yeah it is tough figuring out how to get everyone involved. One thing I've thought about is, trying to encourage others to start their own meetings at times that are good for them; for example, the scriptor meeting is held Tue. nights at 8 PM EST, but for folks 'across the pond' that can't make it, I'd encourage them to start up another meeting, at another time, in shared space, that is convenient for them. I understand it's tough, if not impossible, to stay up til 2 or 3 am to start a meeting. I'm out cold by that time! That way, 2 different meetings could be held at different times, and we could share results and accelerate the learning.
Every other Thursday may be a good idea; since folks have already gotten into the habit of coming Thursdays anyway.

Can't say I'd be a regular attendee but my vote is for alternating the slot with the Thursday Night Live event. Bit of consistency and a lot easier to remember (and I'm UK so I'm not being biased to my local time!!).
If you try and arrange a convenient date for everyone by committee it'll never get started. State when, get it up and running and then fine tune the details. |

I am going to test the truePlace software on dialup tonight and see if it is even doable. If so, I would very much like to join the Bananamation Club :)

Don't have broadband so I think I'll give it a miss and being on the other side of the world usually these things happen either when I want to be in bed asleep ot when I have to work for a living!
Good idea though and I hope the animation club will be able to share their knowledge and discoveries with the rest of us anyway. I'll just be a non-attending member!:D |

Ok, so the club will officially meet on Saturdays, starting this saturday, at 12 noon pst, 3 pm est, and 8 pm UK time. I want to have a time where people internationally can join so I think this will work. The frog has spoken. lol.
The first meetings topic will be bouncing balls. I will find out before hand if more than one person can work on individual animations at a time in shared space. Otherwise I will ask people to make a bouncing ball to drop in space before the meeting, or we can work on one bouncing ball, each taking turns contributing. I will work out an agenda and post it before the meeting too so we have organization. I will do some more research on bouncing balls and make a list of topics to discuss. I know bouncing balls sounds very basic but this is the basics of animation that can be applied to everything so I think it's a good starting point for our club and will open some interesting discussion. I hope we can make it interesting and informative for all skill levels. |
