Just as an aside, for the dialup members and those who can't make it due to other commitments, time zones or whatever, it might be a plan to keep a "forum aspect" of the club alive and running.
While nothing beats meeting together live of course, I think the idea of an Animation Club posting ideas, topics, challenges etc here on the forums would be good too, all around the foundation of the live truePlace meeting.
That way you get "the best of both worlds" :) Of course it doesnt have to be anything formal, its up to you guys and gals how to run it, just the odd thread with the title "Animation Club" would be enough maybe.
Anyway, the whole thing sounds cool, so I hope to see it do well! And I hope to learn a few things too :)
Thanks!

Everyone: I do not have anything to report yet on the usability of truePlace to dialup users, though I understand it is doable. I did discover that in order to get truePlace to be able to render anything in the view I had to update my video card drivers and install DirectX9.c. That's cool, but the time it took on dialup to download all these things pretty much killed the evening. SO! Tonight I will try again and report back what I find. If there are any users that are now using truePlace with dialup I would appreciate any tips or pointers that might come in handy. Of course I realize I may be the last human on earth to not have broadband :)

you mean I'm NOT the last dialup person on the earth!? WOOHOO!
Thanks for making me feel better guys :)
Also thanks for the tips that have come my way. Looks like the general consensus is that I'll need to be very conservative on my settings in truePlace and be patient. I can do that  |

couple of suggestions / points:
3d visuals dude made a kiosk awhile back for the scriptor meetings; you click on a button, and you are sent to a website that contains a pre recorded audio file. This method can be used for other types of media as well: video files, for example; if you want to make a demo, you record the video; then folks can go to the website from within shared space and download the video / audio file.
I will get some more info prepped shortly.

Here's the website where 3dv placed his demo mp3 audio. Click the first link (the mp3 file). This is his demo audio file, which includes thoughts on presentations like this. Basically, his kiosk is a really cool way to access web pages like this. You just configure the kiosk to point to the correct link. When we get rentable shared spaces for truespace, we can use kiosks like that to host video and audio presentations like this.

Now call me old fashioned but it seems to me that it'd be a lot quicker to just post the URL in the chat window rather than faff about configuring a special object to do it.
Maybe I'm missing the point here but I can't get excited about something that is nothing more than a hyperlink, they've been around a long time! |

Hi Witchy. This is what I was referring to specifically in my last post:

You are correct; for now, we should post this in the chat window, or before the meeting, in a forum post.
But, when we can rent our own shared space, a kiosk would be a cool thing to include in that shared space. It would serve as a set of links, as you describe, except from within our private rented shared space, which people could go to (if they wish). |

I stopped in shared space yesterday afternoon. Norm was there working and was kind enough to help me test keyframing in shared space. You can keyframe and play your animations in shared space but if more than one person plays the animation at the same time things get real funky. So we won't be working on individual animations at the same time in there as I hoped we could. What we can do is, people make their own bouncing balls before the meeting, then we watch them and discuss them.
Don't be discouraged about coming if you don't have an animation ready though. We will do other things.
After we watch and discuss some bouncing ball animations we can do a group project where everyone takes turns working on a bouncing ball. Like one person sets the up and down motion, the another may work on some keyframes to set the timing, then someone can apply squash and stretch, then someone can add angles, etc etc, tweaking until we are all satisfied with it to record it and put it on the forum.
I will think of other things we can do too, i just finished a project for someone so have a couple of days to come up with stuff. If anyone has any ideas please post them here.
I will make a seperate thread on friday announcing the saturday meeting with all the details. |

Hello everyone
Here are a couple of web pages to review for discussion before the meeting:
http://www.frankandollie.com/PhysicalAnimation.html
http://www.idleworm.com/how/anm/01b/bball.shtml
I will post them again in the official announcement.
Thanks |

The Animators Live! event is not related to the animators club here :)
Animators Live! is a one-off special even (a variation on Thursday Night LIve!) being put together by Caligari, but the animations club is something organised and run by users, for regular meetings.
Hope that helps avoid any confusion :)
Thanks!
